Artisans and specialty producers abound in the Gulf Islands and on Vancouver Island. World class
craftsmen are drawn here by the laid back idyllic lifestyle, and they stay because they find a vibrant
market for their products. This tour takes a leisurely sampling of experiences on Salt Spring Island and in
Chemainus. The seaside village of Ganges is a focal point for unique shops. A mid-day cruise is a relaxing
way to admire the beauty of the Gulf Islands. One of the finest views in the region is from the top of Mount
Maxwell, and we have arranged vans to take you up there. Chemainus has numerous craft shops and
galleries. Also enjoy a performance of one of Agatha Christie’s most enduring plays, The Mousetrap,
presented at Chemainus Theatre.

voyage into the Gulf Islands. Brief stops are made
at Galiano, Mayne and Pender Islands, then we
disembark at Long Harbour on Salt Spring Island about 1 pm. This afternoon, a locally-guided tour
visits some highlights of Salt Spring Island, including
Ruckle Provincial Park where you can stroll some
pleasant trails along the ocean. Accommodation
for two nights is at the Harbour House Hotel in
Ganges.

cruise along Salt Spring’s shoreline as well as some
nearby Gulf Islands such as Prevost, Galiano and
North Pender. A gourmet lunch is served on
board. This afternoon, we ride in vans up the wind-
ing road to the summit of Mount Maxwell and enjoy a panoramic view over Salt Spring Island,
the other Gulf Islands and the Sansum Narrows.

stration featuring falcons, eagles, owls and hawks.
Our overnight accommodation is at Chemainus
Festival Inn. Tonight, we go to Chemainus Theatre

ance of Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap. It has
been a fixture of London theatre since 1952 and
celebrated its 25,000th performance in 2012, the
longest-running play in history. The plot: Who will
escape Monkswell Manor? A snowstorm traps
guests, a police detective, and a killer in a series
of betrayals and murders. No one escapes suspi-
cion, no one is safe — until the final moments of
the mystery!

Tour Notes Tour Notes Tour Notes Tour Notes Harbour House Hotel — We stay two nights at this hotel in Ganges. We have 14 rooms with a harbour view
which are assigned to the earliest bookers, and the remaining rooms have no view. The hotel has no eleva-
tor and most rooms are on the second floor reached by one flight of stairs. The hotel is within walking dis-
tance to downtown Ganges (about ½ km). The hotel operates its own organic farm which supplies its
restaurant with fresh and healthy ingredients.
Activity Level: Moderate activity including short distances to walk (such as Mount Maxwell viewpoint),
and steps to/from your Ganges room as noted above. The ramp to the boat dock may be steep at
low tide and there are steps to board the Pride of Victoria.
