• On February 25, 1692 Tituba was requested by her neighbors to bake a witch cake. (which is a cake with the afflicted’s urine.) This was then fed to a dog. (feeding the dog is said to counter the spell.)

Soon the girl’s named their tormentors –Tituba, Sarah G. and Sarah O. Soon arrest warrants came out.

# The Trials #

TitubaDuring Tituba’s confession she

talked of red rats, talking cats and a tall man wearing black (probably the Devil.) She also said that the man wearing black made her sign a book and that the others accused had also signed the book. She confessed for three days. Still no one knows why she confessed. She died in prison.

Martha CoreyIn the middle of March

Ann Putnam accused Martha for afflicting her. Martha was not likely to be a witch. She came to church, and she still lived with her second husband. She was put in jail and died of natural causes.

Rebecca Nurse This 71 year old

lady was also not likely to be a witch. Rebecca was a kindhearted lady and was favored by the community. The only flaw was she was deaf and did not answer when asked. She was hung.

Bridget Bishop She was charged in

the new form of government. At first she did not look like the witch. She was trialed in 1680 and was innocent. The public still wasn't convinced. They went through her house and found she had puppets that had pins and other sharp objects. She was hung.
