Our 2016-17 School Year
Theme: MUSIC
Making Us Strong In Christ
What M.U.S.I.C. Means to Me
by Grace Murray My theme, M.U.S.I.C., Making Us Strong In
Christ, combines my favorite things at Saint
Theresa School and Parish. The teachers at
Saint Theresa's school are great. They weave
religion, life lessons and good examples into
all of our subjects. They lead by example and care about their students. They
teach us to be better and kinder people. They want us to all be successful and
help us strengthen our relationship with God. I pray to God for strength and
guidance everyday. I need his help with my studies, my cheerleading and
patience to deal with my brother. The music program at STS is amazing. Music
is important to me because I'm in choir, I love to sing, I play the piano, and
music class is one of my favorite specials. I think the new piano lab is
AMAZING and being in choir is really fun! I love singing at church and other
places with all my friends. Singing the National Anthem at the Hershey Bears
game is one of my favorite things to do. I also love learning how to play piano
with Mr. Smith and practicing at home and in music class.

Our development and marketing officer, Mrs.
Zemba and I are proud to announce and reveal our
new school logo. This new logo gives St. Theresa
School a professional and contemporary feel. The
logo will also provide a consistent brand for
marketing purposes.
Our enrollment is currently at 384 students. We had
to add a second preschool morning class to
accommodate all the families who desire a Catholic
preschool education from St. Theresa School.
Lastly, we are excited to report we reached nearly
$19,000.00 in donations for our 2015-16 Race for
Education event. Thank you all for your generous
response to the needs of Saint Theresa School.
We are excited to start another year filled with
strong academics and fun activities all surrounded
by our Catholic faith. Have a great school year!
What’s New at STS Mr. Shore?
Welcome back students, faculty and staff, parents
and friends! We are excited for a new school year.
We had another fantastic start to the new school
year with our second annual New Family Picnic.
The temperatures were a little too hot and with the
threat of thunderstorms, we moved the party inside
much to everyone’s approval. Thank you to all the
hard work all the volunteers put into making the
event welcoming for our new families.
Please join me in
thanking Mr. Chip
Z i m m e r m a n f o r
painting two new
Buddy Benches for St.
Theresa School. We
would also like to thank
the Bitner Family for
giving us the idea to
have benches at STS.
The Bitner Family said
they hope the benches
bring joy and friendship to all children during
recess.
Please also join me in thanking a very hardworking
crew that polished, cleaned, painted and scrubbed
the school for us over the summer. Thank you to
Randy Meholick and summer crew for all your
hard work.

Speaking of Music—how
about the fabulous
Matsiko World
Orphan Choir! What
a wonderful way to start
our new school year. The
students and staff of STS
were treated to a perform-
ance by the children dur-
ing the first week of
school. We are also
proud to announce that we have adopted two chil-
dren for the school year. If you would like to par-
ticipate, you can send in a donation with the
monthly Missions collection. We will keep you
posted on our adopted students.
MISSIONS Collections
will be every 3rd Tues-
day of the month:

Way to go Saints!
O.R.E.O. Internet Project 2016 - Last week,
students in 1B participated in an
O.R.E.O. (Our Really Exciting
Online) Internet Project. Using the
Oreo® cookie as a manipulative,
they joined schools from all over the
world as they saw how many Oreo®
cookies each child stacked before
they tumbled. The class average was
12 and the highest stack in the class
was 16! For more information and to
see the results, go to
www.projectsbyJen.com and click on O.R.E.O. 2016.

President of Student Council, Hanah Miller’s address to the parents at Back to School Nights:
Hello! My name is Hanah Miller. I am in 8th grade here at St Theresa's and I am also the Student
Council President. I've been at this school for eleven years and I have to say, even after being here for eleven years,
every year seems like the first day of kindergarten. You would think after a decade at the same school, with the same
teachers you couldn’t wait to leave. But that’s not true. STS is such a great school because it's constantly changing
and evolving. I remember when we first got the COWs, or computers on wheels and Smart Boards. Boy did we think
they were cool. Then we got the iPads and then last year we got the iPad Airs. New technology makes learning so
much more fun. Not only is new ways in learning important at STS, our faith is a priority. Each day starts and ends
with prayer and announcements led by the Student Council Officers. Almost every Friday we go to church. We have
choir and band play at Mass and lower grades have upper grade church buddies. Also in middle school, before each
class we say a little prayer. Speaking of class, during religion class we sometimes go to the chapel located right out-
side the school building. I hope you also come to love the World's Best Catholic School like I have.

It’s always wonderful
to see our older
students pair up with
their younger
buddies. Here you
can see our 8th
graders reading to
their preschool
buddies in Mrs.
Zimmerman’s class.
Did you hear?? We had an impromptu flashmob at
middle school lunch this year already. We are told it
was disorganized, chaotic and awesome all at the
same time! The students sang and danced to the
song: God's Not Dead. Mrs. Castner was proud of
her "super religion class witnesses".

How can you serve your parish community for
the majority of your time in school? By
becoming an altar server. The Parish Knights of
Columbus have the responsibility of training
altar servers at St. Theresa Parish. They do this
by holding several classes usually in the
fall. You have the opportunity to serve Mass at
a time that you prefer.
Pope Francis was quoted recently speaking to
9,000 altar servers, “Serving at the altar,” the
pope told the young people, “is a privileged way
to draw closer to Jesus, which in turn enables
you to open yourselves to others, to journey
together, to set demanding goals and to find the
strength to achieve them."
"The closer you are to the altar," he told them,
"the more you will remember to speak with
Jesus in daily prayer; the more you will be
nourished by the word and the body of the Lord,
the better able you will be to go out to others,
bringing them the gift that you have received,
giving in turn with enthusiasm the joy you have
received.”
What does it mean to be an Altar Server? Part of
it means that Altar Servers help the priest at
Mass, are responsible, report on time and are
respectfully dressed. But it’s much more than
that, being an Altar Server means being
connected to the Mass in a powerful way.
4 Reasons to be an Altar Server:
1) Best Seat in the House
Hey, if you are wanting to get the best seat in
house, altar serving is for you. Ever get bored at
church? That will not happen anymore. Need a
good reason to get away from your annoying
brother or sister? This is it.
2) Friends
It’s become something of the “cool” factor
among kids. They enjoy serving together. Many
servers often drop by the altar server room
before Mass just to see if they need an extra set
of hands. They make lots of friends with other
boys and girls outside their normal peer
group, Fourth graders become friends with high
school kids. We are called to live in community
and I can’t think of a more positive bunch than
our 70 altar servers.
3) Respect and
understanding of
the Mass.
You will
experience the
Mass in a new and
special way. You
will likely have an
almost immediate
shift in your
approach. Your
focus and
understanding will change resulting in joy and
mastery of the Mass.
4) An opportunity for leadership.
You will begin knowing nothing and will soon
find yourself helping and mentoring others as
you grow in your knowledge. For more
information contact Mr. Moretz via email:
[email protected] or ask at the church
office.

A Good Deed, By:
Mrs. Castner: You
may not know, but at
the beginning of the
school year my crucifix
fell from the wall and
shattered. I was so very
sad. It was one of the
old, original ones from
the old wing of the
school. Of course, I was
told I could order a new
one, but it would not
have had the same
meaning. My Fourth
period religion, 7th and 8th grade Language Arts
class got together and surprised me with a NEW
crucifix last week. Now I have a new crucifix AND
it has very special meaning since they went to all
that trouble to surprise me. What a wonderful gift of
love they shared!

O’Connor

third grade
class worked
on last year.
