MEALS FOR HOMEBOUND ELDERLY—Do you know someone who is homebound, can’t prepare nutritious meals, and has no one to help with cooking? They may be eligible to receive well-balanced lunchtime meals. Home meal services are provided by the West Springfield Council on Aging, which is funded in part by Greater Springfield Senior Services, Inc. A donation of $2.50 per meal is suggested. GUIDELINES FOR REQUESTING A MASS FOR 2017
The Mass book for 2017 will open on Tuesday, January 12, 2016. Beginning on Tuesday, January 12 you may call the parish office, 739-4779, between the hours of 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. and can book up to 3 Masses only. Beginning Wednesday,
January 20 after 10:00 a.m., the Mass book will be open to anyone for as many Masses as you would like. Also, the Mass intention will be limited to one individual’s name or two family names (example: John Doe or Deceased Members of the Doe and Smith Families). We ask for your patience and understanding as we try to accommodate all of your requests.
During this year of Mercy, the Daily Rosary Group will pray the Chaplet of Divine Mercy after the rosary on Mondays.

CATHOLIC SCHOOL/HIGH SCHOOL SPONSORSHIP—St. Thomas parishioners, who have students in our parish school and/or at one of our area Catholic high schools, can have St. Thomas sponsor the student. Sponsorship is determined by participating in weekly Mass along with an annual envelope contribution of $750, the prior calendar year.

THE APOSTLE SCHOOL—We are happy to announce our annual open house and registration for prospective families interested in our 2016-2017 preschool and kindergarten program. The staff and faculty of St. Thomas look forward to meeting your family on Sunday, January 31, 1:00-2:30 p.m. If you wish to register your child you must provide a copy of your child’s birth certificate and baptismal certificate (if your child was baptized). A non-refundable $100 registration fee is required at this time which will be applied to your child’s tuition. Children must be 2.9 years of age by September 1 for the three year old program, 4 years of age by September 1 for the four year old program and 5 years of age by September 1 for the kindergarten program. New families with children in all other grades are also welcome to come for a tour and register at this time. Please bring a copy of your child’s latest report card, Standardized Test scores or MCAS scores, to be retained by the school. After School Extended Care for preschool thru grade 8 is available throughout the school year. THOMAS WOMEN’S RETREAT—JANUARY 29-31—Into the Heart of Mercy—Join Holy Family and the Catholic community around the world as we celebrate the Year of Mercy as courageously proclaimed by Pope Francis. This retreat will examine the Seven Spiritual Works of Mercy and explore ways of cultivating mercy amid life’s inevitable challenges, identifying practical ways of integrating mercy into our daily lives. ST. THOMAS THE APOSTLE SCHOOL NEWS Congratulations to three of our fifth grade students who wrote winning essays for The Knights of Columbus essay contest. The students were asked to write about the meaning of Christmas. We are
proud to announce the following winners: First Place~Alexandra Paez, Second Place~Brandon Bergeron, Third Place~Sarah Debian. Once again, students in grades 7 and 8 have an opportunity to participate in the Wright Flight Program. Designed to increase interest in the study of aviation and engineering, the ten week program will culminate with the students actually flying an airplane along with one instructor. FUNDRAISER TO BENEFIT THE FRIENDS OF WEST

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS FREE THROW
CHAMPIONSHIP—All boys and girls ages 9 to 14 are invited to participate in the local level of competition for the Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship in West Springfield. This event will be held in the St. Thomas the Apostle gymnasium on Saturday, January 30, 2016 beginning with registration at 8:00 a.m. The Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship is sponsored annually, with winners progressing through local, district, and state competitions. International champions are announced by the K of C headquarters based on scores from the state-level competitions. All boys and girls will compete in their respective age and gender divisions. Last year more than 120,000 sharpshooters participated in over 3,600 local competitions. All contestants on the local level are recognized for their participation. Participants are required to show proof of age and written parental consent at registration. Age eligibility is determined by the age of the contestant as of January 1. Participation forms can be printed in advance from the K of C website, www.kofc.org (http://www.kofc.org/un/en/resources/service/youth/freethrow/1598_Print.pdf). The Knights of Columbus is an international Catholic family fraternal service organization with over 1.9 million members in 15,000 local councils. Last year, Knights donated over 71.5 million volunteer hours and $173.5 million to charitable and benevolent causes, sponsoring projects to benefit their church, councils, communities, culture of life, families and youth. ROSARY ON WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON—The rosary will be prayed every Wednesday at 2:15 p.m. in the Parish Center chapel. The three mysteries will be prayed – but come for one, two or all three.
