Welcome A Message from Msgr. Joe Jesus in today’s Gospel tells the parable of the three servants and how they dealt with the talents given to them. Perhaps it is just a coincidence that our word “talent,” which means a gi or skill, is used in this story to refer to a very large amount of money. But the connec on works for us. As we con nue our prayer together today, this may be a good me to reflect on the talents that we have been given and how we have used them in the service of God’s reign. Congratula ons to our children who celebrated their First Reconcilia on this weekend. Our prayer for you is that you may always rely on the merciful love of God and his forgiveness. Even as we recognize the mes in the past that we have not been at our best. Reconcilia on invites us to turn our gaze from what was to what can be as we walk in communion with God. Our parish expresses its gra tude to their parents and catechist. We con nue to pray for you as you con nue your journey towards First Holy Communion. This week we will celebrate one of the great American holidays, as we gather with family and friends on Thanksgiving Day. Each of us, even in the midst of sorrows, losses and the challenges of life, have much to be thankful for because God has not abandoned us. Over the past few days, my thoughts and prayers have focused on the great gi s that the Lord has blessed me with. First and foremost the gi of my family and friends; and my voca on to

Spiritual Direction Tending the sacred rela onship

Spiritual direc on is an on-going rela onship between a “directee” (person seeking) and a “director” (qualified person giving guidance) wherein a sacred space is created for the explora on and deepening of the spiritual life. Through conversa on and reflec on, the directee becomes more a uned to God's presence and can respond more fully to the Divine as it is revealed in all areas of life. Direc on typically takes place in a confiden al one-on-one se ng and may include some form of prayer experience to increase awareness of the movement of the Spirit in the directee’s life. If you are interested in more informa on, please contact Jennifer Hinton at [email protected] or 609-558-0985(cell) or Teresa Knipper at [email protected] or 609-558-0582(cell). priesthood. My thoughts have also turned to the great blessing the Lord has given to me as pastor of this great and wonderful parish community. Each of you is a blessing to me. This is a great community to give thanks for because of its great faith, a faith that is measured in the powerful spirit of

gra tude and generosity. Gra tude and generosity are measures of faith. Generosity and gra tude are the fruits of faith. I hope if your family tradi ons permit that you will be able to join with your parish family to begin your Thanksgiving Day in praise and thanksgiving. If not, that’s okay, remember

that you will be remembered in our parish celebra on for all that each of you do to make St. Paul Parish, the great Catholic Community of Princeton. God Bless and Happy Thanksgiving.

Faith Formation A Message from John Michael McGuire Have you ever thought about the similari es between Thanksgiving and Mass? What‘s the first thing you do if you are hos ng family and friends? Usually, you’ll do your best to clean, even the most dy of home owners will find something to do to make sure their house is ready, and it’s usually the cleanest it’s been all year. Even the guests will have to prepare themselves, selec ng the right ou it, and traveling, perhaps over the river and through the woods! This is like going to confession. At Mass we welcome the most dis nguished guest Jesus, when we receive the Eucharist. Then our guests arrive. Usually we don’t go right to the table do we? Instead we usually mill around the living room, maybe football’s on, maybe not. The host will usually speak with their guests about their travels, the year that they’ve had, and generally about their lives. This is like liturgy of the Word. Instead of reflec ng on a year’s me, we hear about thousands of years of salva on history. Then the meal is on the table, so all those in a endance make their way to sit down. Each person has their place, and they get se led in. Here’s usually where we go around the table to say what we are thankful for, and states any pe ons, usually for those who go without, or sick friends and rela ves that couldn’t join us. These are like the prayers of the faithful. We make requests of God before moving to the meal. Then the last thing we do before the meal is say grace. Do you remember par cipa ng in this dialogue? “Let us give thanks to the Lord” we respond, “it is right and just.” The Eucharis c prayer is our grace before the Eucharist! In both cases we eat a meal that strengthens us. Let’s pray this week, that everyone has a blessed Thanksgiving!

Summer Academy Family Catechesis Mark your calendars now for your required Family Catechesis events! All families who

par cipate in Summer Academy are required to a end 3 Family Catechesis Events. In addi on, students are required to

a end a Family Life Day. Family Catechesis Events are on December 3, 2017; March 4, 2018 and May 6, 2018. Family Life Day for Grades 1-4 is February 24, 2018 and for Grades 5-7 March 10, 2018. The Confirmandi, Grade 8, should a end the Family Catechesis Events with their families however; they do not need to a end the Family Life Day since the material will be covered

during a One8 session.

Children’s Liturgy of the Word Children’s Liturgy of the Word is a special opportunity for children at 10:00 am Mass to share the Word of God in an age appropriate reflec on. Children from 4 years old up to second grade will be invited to come forward a er the Collect to receive a blessing and process to the Spiritual Center where they will celebrate a Liturgy of the Word accessible to children. They will return and join their families at the Prepara on of the Gi s. New volunteers are always welcome.

Sense Sensitive Mass Our Parish welcomes families with special needs to a end our weekly 5:00 pm Sunday Mass. Music, sounds, and sights will be welcoming to those with challenges. We gather as a community to celebrate Successes, Uniqueness, and Challenges of all God’s Children. For further informa on please contact Barbara Confor at: confor [email protected].

Sacrament Policy Reminder It is expected that children begin preparing for the Sacrament of First Reconcilia on/First Holy Communion in first grade, and that young people begin preparing for Confirma on in seventh grade. This policy allows for a child to receive an adequate amount of prepara on and catechesis in order to experience and understand the sacraments they will be celebra ng.

A Message from Dr. Ryan Killeen Each year, we greet the Scholas c Olympics with great an cipa on. I am thrilled to announce that our team won first place at the Trenton Catholic Academy Scholas c Olympics for the fourth consecu ve year. One of the many things that I love about St. Paul School is that we celebrate academic achievement with such relish.

What makes a success like this so beau ful is that, as an academic community, we can all celebrate and share in this victory. Every teacher shares in the success of every student- That is the core of the Preschool to grade 8 model. Our students have worked toward these goals since day one and every teacher that has been a guide on this academic journey played a pivotal role.

Here at SPS we believe strongly in the philosophy of the Preschool to grade 8 school model. The con nuity of advancing through a single school community allows our students to grow in confidence and ability. They develop authen c personalized engagement with an interconnected faculty. They have the security to take risks and even experience failure and all the learning that can be gleaned from that process.

The posi ve transi on our students make to secondary school is so heartening to all of us who have been privileged to be entrusted with shaping their educa on. Without excep on I hear from our secondary school partners how well prepared our students are to excel in an academically rigorous high school environment.

It was of course very exci ng to see our students recognized last week with their Scholas c Olympics win but the real prize is what our students achieve every day and who they are when they graduate.

10 Week Club The winner of this week’s drawing for a $500 gi card is Katarina Powichrowska. Congratula ons!!

Save the Date: Scholastic Book Fair Round 'em up and head on over to this year's Scholas c Wild West Book Fair: Saddle Up

Looking Ahead Tuesday, November 21: Thanksgiving Lunch & Food Drive. The PTA will be hos ng its

annual Thanksgiving luncheon for the students. Non-perishable food dona ons are also being collected for Mount Carmel Guild in Trenton along with unused items from the luncheon.

Wednesday, November 23: Prayer Service 9:30 am; Thanksgiving Vaca on begins with 11:45 Dismissal. Please note that there is no A ercare. Classes resume, Monday, November 27

Parent Connect: November Outward Signs: This month at One8 we discussed the seven sacraments of the Church and the important role they play in our Catholic faith. The sacraments are outward signs of God’s grace, ins tuted by Christ and entrusted to the Church. They are Bap sm, Confirma on, Eucharist, Reconcilia on, Anoin ng of the Sick, Holy Matrimony, and Holy Orders. These sacraments were given to the Church by Christ in order to con nually draw us closer to God, and to give us a glimpse of heaven. We challenged the candidates to begin to live a more ac ve sacramental life. The best way that they can be encouraged to do this is through your example. Make a commitment to live a life more fully focused on the sacraments, and invite your son or daughter to do that with you. Some sugges ons are: A end Reconcilia on on a

weekend at your parish with your son or daughter. Go to a daily Mass at your parish with your family. Have holy water available at your household for your family to bless themselves with as a reminder of their Bap sm (all your teens received a bo le of holy water at the last session! If your teen missed the session, please let us know so we can get you some holy water for your home).

Epic Story: In this session, we talked about God as both an architect and the master of the plan of salva on. This was the plan that God began a er humanity's fall to sin, a plan that was fulfilled in Christ's Incarna on, Death and Resurrec on. This plan is con nued through the Church and the Sacraments. The Candidates were given an opportunity to reflect on their own plans, and how they do or do not fit with God's plan for their life. We challenged them to submit these things to God, trus ng that His plans are greater than our plans. Take some me to discuss this session with your Candidate. Here are some ques ons to get you started: What do you think God's plan is for you? Why? What are some of your hopes for the next year? What about the next five years? Do you think it is easier to trust in God or to trust yourself? Why?

Next Session: December Friday, December 1, 2017 5:00 pm-9:00 pm This session includes dinner for candidates. God With Us: This session will give the candidates an understanding of the reality that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and the perfect revela on of God. Without this central truth, our profession of faith no longer makes sense. Pillars: At this session, candidates are introduced to the universal nature of the Church, and how the four marks give the Church her iden ty and mission. This session will also help the candidates understand their iden ty as Catholic Chris ans today.

Registration All students entering 8th grade in any of the schools served by our parish are eligible to register for Confirma on. We’ll work together to provide sandwich bags for the Trenton Area Soup Kitchen. All young adults are invited to join us for this opportunity to see the community in need.

Theology on Tap Nov 28 @ 7:00pm at Triumph Brewery. We’re back at the brewery! Join us this month for a night food (and drink!), friends, and fun! Mark your calendar now and bring some friends - the more the merrier! We hope for this to be an opportunity to reach out to young adults in our area who aren't involved or are maybe less involved in Church life. Hope to see you there!

Wine Tasting Dec 5 @ 7:00pm in the Spiritual Center Auditorium. Join us for a night of celebra on and fun! All young adults 21-39 are invited to a end. Free admission, but feel free to make a dona on of a

nonperishable food item to be donated to those in need this holiday season.

An Evening With Screwtape Dec 12 @ 7:00pm in the St. Tim Room . By examining a chapter or two from CS Lewis’ “Screwtape Le ers”, we’ll dive into the psychology of tempta on and how to overcome it. No prior reading necessary - we’ll read and discuss the night of the event.

Who Am I To Judge? Dec 19 @ 7:00pm in the St. Tim Room. In an age in which preference has replaced morality, many people find it difficult to speak the truth, afraid of the reac ons they will receive if they say something is right or wrong. Using engaging stories and personal experience, Edward Sri helps us understand the classical view of morality and equips us to engage rela vism, appealing to both the head and the heart. Learn how Catholic morality is all about love, why making a judgment is not judging a person's soul, and why, in the words of Pope Francis, "rela vism wounds people.” Join us as we gather to read/discuss this great new book! No prior reading necessary - we’ll read and discuss the night of the event.

Princeton Area Young Adults (late teens 18-19, 20’s & 30’s)

Who Is God? Series 11/19 @ 6:00pm in the St. Tim Room. This series helps us come to an understanding of our personal iden ty and lets us know that iden ty comes from God! We’ll

unpack the mystery of God, from examining the nuts and bolts of how we can know He is real, to understanding the ways He has revealed himself throughout history.

Advent Series During this series, we’ll use Advent as an opportunity to go deep into the Faith. Through an explora on of the mystery of the Incarna on, the Virgin Birth, and the events surrounding the arrival of Jesus, the season of Christmas will come alive in a fresh new way.

Prepare the Way 11/26 @ 6:00pm in the St. Tim Room. It's been said that Christmas is merely a pagan day that was Chris anized by the early Church—and now the pagans want it back. Yet the holiday we call Christmas (and the season of Advent that precedes it) is marked by wonder, holiness, and beauty, which go beyond mere sen mentality. Preparing "the way of the Lord," as begun by John the Bap st, con nues for us now, signaling the beginning of the Church year—and the next chapter in your journey as a disciple.

Trust in God 12/3 @ 6:00pm in the St. Tim Room. Long before an angel appeared

to a young girl named Mary, the need for the angel's message was firmly established in history. At the start of Crea on, mankind had rebelled, choosing to trust something other than its Creator, bringing sin and death into the world. So how does that event connect to a young virgin and a startling visit from a celes al being? Join us tonight to find out!

Watch & Pray 12/10 @ 6:00pm in the St. Tim Room. Overwhelmed by mul ple voices, sounds, and images coming at them from an endless number of places? How can you keep focus to watch for Christ during Advent? Tonight, we’ll explore how the Na vity narra ve in Luke’s Gospel gives a vivid example of how to prepare your heart in true humility so that "watching" is an ac ve reality, allowing you to see God's work with new eyes.

The Gift 12/17 @ 6:00pm in the St. Tim Room. mIt's easy to lose sight of the real story of the Magi amidst the figurines, the television rendi ons, and the carols about the three "oriental kings." Tonight, we’ll look at the biblical account and give a proper context for a truly meaningful celebra on of joy through sacrificial giving. We’ll also be celebra ng Christmas a bit early with our Christmas party!

Getting Ready for Advent: December 3, 2017 Maranatha, Come O Lord and set us free! Prepare the Way at Home—Start Some New Family Traditions

Preparing for a celebra on can be every bit as much fun as the celebra on itself. When we learn to live this simple truth, our lives become richer and happier. Inevitably, we carry into the feast day the a tudes, thoughts, and feelings that filled our hearts and minds in the preceding days. With the coming of Jesus, our homes can become a cradle for God-among-us. We prepare our homes to receive our God much as we would prepare to receive a new baby or a very special guest, by cleaning and decora ng. There are many wonderful decora ng tradi ons. A thorough pre-Christmas housecleaning in Sweden gets rid not only of dust and cobwebs, but was also believed to clear out goblins and trolls that might sneak into even the best-kept homes during the winter darkness. Ukrainian families cleanand will o en whitewash their homes in prepara on. Christmas decora ons can tell stories of faith, reflec ng our cultural and religious heritage. Evergreen boughs symbolize eternal life. According to legend, the poinse a sprang up as an answer to the prayer of a poor boy who longed to give something to Christ. The Irish place candles in the windows and Mexicans use luminaria to

welcome the Holy Family. In Finland, the dining room is given a starlit sky by hanging a canopy of plaited straw from the ceiling from which star ornaments are suspended. How do we get through all the demands of these weeks with our hearts and minds ready for a celebra on (instead of a nap)? Here are a few sugges ons: ♦Choose decora ons that have both beauty and deeper meaning. ♦Accept your limita ons. The important work, God's work, is

already done. ♦Enjoy! Dust and scrub, yes. But also take me to admire it all! ♦Do it as a team. Don't make one person do all the work. ♦No ce and compliment the good work people do. ♦Play music or sing while you work. ♦Reward a job well done (cookies, anyone?).

Our Jesse Giving Tree The Jesse Tree is an Advent custom that helps us to spiritually prepare for Christmas. Jesse was the father of King David, the first king of Israel. Long a er King David died, Isaiah made a prophecy that a new shoot would bloom from the stump of Jesse. Chris ans take this as a reference to Jesus. The Jesse Tree is decorated with symbols of the coming Messiah as pronounced by the prophets. To show this prophecy being symbolically fulfilled this Christmas, we as members of the body of Christ can each represent a new shoot through our love and generosity toward others. The weekend of November 25 & 26, you will see Our Jesse Giving Tree in the ves bule of the church. Gi tags will be available. If you wish to par cipate, take a tag, buy the requested present and return it unwrapped but with the original tag a ached by Sunday, December 10. Bring

your gi s to mass and place at the empty manger or drop them off in the Parish Office during business hours. It is necessary to return the gi s on me so that they may be distributed in me for Santa Claus.

Help Assemble Candy Canes for Christmas We will again distribute Candy Canes with Christmas wishes and a li le gi to all who come to Mass at St. Paul’s on Christmas. Come help assemble the candy canes, December 2, at 9 a.m. – 12 noon in the St. Paul Spiritual Center, Rooms 1 & 2 and the Conference Room. For more informa on, email Claire: [email protected].

Annual Nativity Pageant On Christmas Eve, Sunday, December 24 at 3:30 PM, we will have our annual Na vity

Pageant with the St. Paul Parish Children’s Choir as we gather for Christmas Mass. Any parish child is welcomed to par cipate. Children in Grade 2 and younger are encouraged to come dressed as shepherds or angels,; children in Grade 3 through 7 will be welcomed as narrators, or to play an inn keeper, the star and other important roles. We are looking for a boy in Grade 7 or 8 for the role of Joseph. If your child is interested in being involved please contact John McGuire in the Office of Religious Educa on at: [email protected]. The rehearsal will be held on Tuesday, December 19 in Church from 6:00-7:30 pm.
