A TRIBUTE TO OUR SHUT-IN MEMBERS

I want to tell you "Thank you," But it doesn’t seem enough. Words don’t seem sufficient— "Blah, blah" and all that stuff. You were the best Missionary at St. Paul, We watched you give it

your all. And even though you can’t be here. We treasure the path you paved so dear.

Please know we have deep feelings, About your years of generous acts. We appreciate you greatly; You’re special, and those are the facts!

Dr. Zelda Q. Birdsong Mrs. Hazel Carter Mrs. Rose Craig Ms. Laveeda Whitnell Ms. Margaret Ferguson Mrs. Henrietta Whirl

Inasmuch, we pause to acknowledge your untiring and dedicated service in the vineyard of the Lord at

St. Paul Christian Methodist Episcopal Church and the world beyond.

“I always pray with joy... being confident of this, that He who begun a good work in you, will carry it on to completions until the day of Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 1:4, 6)

Beloved, I wish above all things That thou mayest prosper and Be Healed!

Gone But Not Forgotten

A limb has fallen from the family tree. I keep hearing a voice that says, "Grieve not for me.

Remember the best times, the laughter, the song. The good life they lived while they were strong.

Mrs. Neva Williams

13 Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. 14 For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. I Thessalonians 4:13-14

UNTIL WE MEET AGAIN

From the Pastor. . . . . .

Today, we celebrate our Annual Missionary Day. The work of our Missionaries has been outstanding to say the least. This is even truer here at Saint Paul CME Church. Led by our President, Min. Angela Hamb, we have been blessed and fortunate see first-hand the kind of leadership, dedication, commitment and faithfulness God would be proud of.

Our Missionaries play an integral part in pushing forth God’s agenda and maintaining the ministry thrust that is so needed in our world today. Our church has experienced a great deal of growth, through the efforts of our Missionaries. We now find ourselves today at a significant moment in our church and Zion. As Missionaries you must be ever more diligent in helping to navigate our people through the turbulent waters of Poverty, Disenfranchisement, Homelessness, Economic Instability and Health Education. I am confident that you will not only help, but succeed in getting the job done.

As we reflect on your theme “ Missionaries Called According to God’s Purpose”, may we all accept the fact that God has called us all too some form of work or Mission. Let us all embrace the charge and make a difference not only in our homes, but the world at large as well. This was the charge that was given to Paul by Jesus. Some of us don’t have to have a Damascus experience to start working, all we have to do is make the choice to follow God and let God take care of the rest.

In closing, let me thank the following for making this weekend a success: Min. Angela Hamb, Sis. Frances Evins, Rev. Cassandra Weaver and Sis. Sandra Simmons and the St. Paul Missionary Society. We are a better people today for your efforts in making this weekend a success. To God be the Glory for the great things he has done and is doing here at Saint Paul CME Church!

Rev. Curlee Adams, Pastor

The President’s Message. . . . .

Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! Welcome to the 108th Observance of St. Paul’s General Missionary Day. Our theme this year is “Missionaries Called According to God’s Purpose” Romans 8:28 while we continue to be CME Missionaries Called to Reach Back (remembering what being a missionary means), Stand Firm (standing on the word of God) and Look Forward (sharing the good news and salvation through Jesus Christ, with unsaved men, women and children at home and abroad) as our quadrennial theme dictates.

Our St. Paul CME Missionary Society continues to support our local church, Overseas Missions, Hunger and Meals for Millions, the Helena B. Cobb Scholarship Fund, the SOS (Save our Sons) Scholarship Fund, the “HOPE” Project, the World Federation of Methodist and Uniting Church Women, as well as various other district, region and connectional projects. Our mission projects are local as well as international. God has continued to bless our Missionary Society with faithful, dedicated members and supporters.

Locally, we continued our outreach efforts by visiting the sick and shut-in, we prepared Thanksgiving Baskets for fifty needy families. We participated in the District Missionary Christmas Program where we visited the Renaissance Nursing Home and brought gifts to the residents, had devotion and sang Christmas Carols. This year the Mattie E. Coleman Circle participated in Toys for Tots and Operation Christmas Package for the military overseas, with the leadership of the Rossie T. Hollis we raised $556.00 for the CME Children in Africa to buy shoes. The W.N. Owens Circle initiated a “Helping Ministry” and Clothing Pantry.

On Friday the 2nd Youth and Young Adults Takeover took place under the direction of Sis. Brittney Adams. Saturday our Missionary Prayer Luncheon took place and Rev. Cassandra Weaver blessed us. This morning, the proclaimed word will be given by our very own Mrs. Sandra Simmons, Past President of the St. Paul Missionary Society. Both services are guaranteed to be powerful.

It is with great joy, thanksgiving and my profound gratitude to have had the opportunity to serve as president another year. I owe a debt of gratitude to the Officers, Circle Leaders, Department Chairs and the members who have labored untiringly to maintain and participate in the ongoing St. Paul Missionary Society work this year.

I also acknowledge with appreciation the support and guidance given to us by our Pastor, Rev. Curlee Adams, ministerial staff and the entire St. Paul family.

WORKING TOGETHER

By working together we all have a part in the beauty, We all have a share in the plan. What does it matter what duty,

falls to the lot of man? Someone has blended the plaster, Someone has carried the stone. Neither the man nor the master

Has ever built alone. Making a roof for the weather, Or building a house for a king, Only by working together

Can we accomplish anything. Anonymous

2015 Who will it be?

The Vice President’s Message. . . . . .

“This is the day the Lord has made we will rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24.

Today we celebrate our 108th General Missionary Day, our theme is “Missionaries Called

According to God’s Purpose” and our scripture reference is Romans 8:28 which states,

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who

are the called according to His purpose. I am proud to say that on this General Missionary

Day I can look back over this past year and say that we have been doing the work of those

who are called according to God’s purpose and it has all worked out for the good.

It has been my pleasure to serve as the Vice President of the Missionary Society I love so

well. This year our youth participated in the Elizabeth Johnson Encouragement Grant

Essay Writing Contest and we had several young Missionaries to win for top essays. I am

proud to say that we have initiated the Dr. Elnora P. Hamb Scholarship that will help to

encourage high school graduates from our church. This year we have four your men

graduating.

This has been a spirit filled weekend and one that I will cherish always beginning with the

2nd Annual Youth and Young Adult Takeover, our Missionary Prayer Luncheon and

closing out with our Annual Day Worship Service. In closing I would like to thank our

President Min. Angela Hamb for encouraging me to continue in the Lord’s service.

Working for the Kingdom,

Sis. Frances Evins

MRS. SANDRA A. SIMMONS

Sandra is a native of St. Louis, Missouri. She was educated in the St. Louis Public School system and subsequently attended the University of Missouri – St. Louis and Webster University. She holds a B.A. Degree in Business Management, majoring in Human Resources Management. She is currently studying for the Senior Human Resources Professional Certification.

Sandra has had a fruitful career in Human Resources, holding director and management positions at Ralston Purina Company, Continental Baking Company, Prosource Distribution Services and Kemper Insurance, as well as being an independent HR Consultant. Her most important job by far has been stay-at-home mom to her two children.

She began her walk with Christ in 1989, when she was baptized at Jamison Memorial CME Church in St. Louis under the leadership of Rev. Andre McClerklin. After moving to Chicago in 1994, she joined St. Paul CME Church in 1995 under the leadership of Rev. Jerome B. Price, Sr. She has been an active member of St. Paul holding various positions such as Editor of the St. Paul Christian Newsletter, St. Paul church reporter, Young Adult President, Co-Director of the St. Paul Children’s Church Ministry for ages 3 – 6. She has participated in various workshops on the local, district, regional and national levels of the Women’s Missionary Society. Sandra is past local President of St. Paul’s Women’s Missionary Society. She is currently a member of the Home and Family Life Circle and is Region Secretary of the Pauline B. Grant Status of Women Department and a national committee member of the Pauline B. Grant Status of Women Department. Her current favorite scripture passage is Ephesians 3:20-21, “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,21 Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen. Her favorite song of encouragement and testimony is “My Help (Cometh from the Lord.”)

Sandra is active in her community and has been a member of the Calvary Christian School PTO Executive Board for eight years, currently serving as Reporter for the 2014/2015 school year.

Sandra is the faithful daughter of Mrs. Bertha Yokley and James Yokley (deceased) of St. Louis, Missouri, the loving wife of the ever-patient and supportive Ralston B. Simmons, Sr., and the proud mother of Ralston B. Simmons, Jr. (R.J.) and Lauren Ashley Simmons.

The St. Paul Missionary Society was organized in 1907 under the pastorage of the late Rev. J. H. T. Walls. Mrs. Lula C. Wheeler, a charter member of St. Paul, was elected the first president. During the early years, there were three Missionary Society units. All three held meetings and reported to the Church Conference separately. All other efforts were as one body. In 1959, Rev. J. M. Pettigrew reorganized the missionary structure according to the rule adopted by the Connectional Council. Under the structure, the society functions as a “Wheel” with the presidents as the “Hub”, the officers as the “Spokes” and the remaining members were divided into “Circles”. Mrs. Laura Hall was elected the first Missionary President under the reorganization. The structure is still operable today.
