Pat Skinner, Chair Greater Saint Paul BOMA Board of Directors

During the last week of June, as a representative of Greater Saint Paul BOMA, I attended the 2013 Every Building Conference and Expo pre-sented by BOMA International in San Diego, California. This was the fourth national conference I have attended in recent years on behalf of our associa-tion and it was, in my opinion, by far the best. The quantity and quality of information and education opportuni-

ties were impressive. One could sense the elevated energy and traction occurring as International continues its roll out of initiatives to be a more effective and relevant voice/resource at the local level and national level. Materials and summary information from the Conference have been shared with staff, board members and committee chairs so that all members can hopefully gain insight from the information obtained. And it was exciting to see our own Ecolab celebrated on the huge screens in front of thousands in attendance as a finalist at the National TOBY Awards presentation! The competition at the national level is stiff. Although Ecolab did not ultimately walk away with the trophy, to be one of eight national finalists is an honor in itself and should be roundly applauded!

Thank you to all who participated in the 26th Annual Golf Tournament. As always, there were many great shots to relive again and again– and a few bad shots to never again be men-tioned! – all which made for a day of fun with fellow mem-bers and guests. We hope and trust all who attended enjoyed the event as much as staff and the Golf Committee enjoyed producing it!

Chair’s REPoRtA note - Con’t from PAge 1

Bigger than a Bucket List! Before I Die, an interactive public art project, was unveiled in the skyway of Alliance Bank Center on July 8th. Shawn Wiski came across the project on the Internet and thought it would be the perfect thing to liven up an otherwise boring con-struction barricade in her building. With the help of a couple tenants and donations from Aspen Waste, Harvard and Alleg-ra Printing, she set about painting a large chalk board on the barricade where people can share their hopes and dreams in public space. The project was started by artist Candy Chang on the walls of an abandoned house in New Orleans after she lost someone she loved very much. It has since been dupli-cated in cities and countries around the world. The Alliance Bank Center project has had an overwhelming response and has been featured on the front page of the Pioneer Press and on KARE 11 news. Shawn expects the project to stay in place until mid-August. Visit their website at www.beforeidie.cc/site/saint-paul.

JEN JohNSoN Reliable Property Services

I was born and raised in Croswell, Michigan, a small town north of Detroit near the shores of Lake Huron. My parents were both teachers and I have one sister, Chris. I continued my education in East Lansing, Michigan re-ceiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Horticulture from Michigan State University.

While studying at Michigan State, I completed an intern-ship with Heaviland Enterprises, a commercial landscap-ing company in San Diego, California. Upon graduation, I began my career working for Landscapes Concepts of Chi-cago as an exterior landscape account manager. In 2006, I migrated to Minnesota to work for an interior plant and flower company, McCaren Designs. I quickly fell in love with the Twin Cities. I met my husband Paul and we were married in 2009.

In 2012, I became an Account Director for Reliable Proper-ty Services. Reliable is the premiere exterior maintenance company in the Upper Midwest and we are celebrating our 30th anniversary this year. We provide snow and ice man-agement services in the winter and lawn and landscaping services in the spring and summer.

In my spare time, I love to golf and bowl - I always have my bowling ball in the trunk of my car. My high score is 231. I also love to explore Minnesota on my bicycle. In 2012, I participated in the AIDS/Lifecycle – Ride to End AIDS in California, with my friend Laurie Reed. It is a 545 mile charity bike ride from San Francisco to Los Angeles. It was a great challenge and one of the best experiences of my life.

My husband Paul and I live in the Highland Park neighbor-hood of St. Paul.

Minnesota Commercial Real Estate Women’s (MNCREW) signature event – Women Run the Cities – will mark its seventh year when it is held on Sunday, Sept. 22. A record 3,000 partici-pants are expected on race day, which includes a women’s 10

mile run, a women’s 5k run/walk, and a girls’ 1-mile run for girls 12 and under.

In 2012, ESPN named Women Run the Cities one of the five best races for women in the country. The majority of the pro-ceeds benefit the Ann Bancroft Foundation’s “Dare to Dream” and “Let Me Play” grants for girls, as well as the CREW Net-work Foundation, which promotes the advancement of wom-en in commercial real estate.

“This is ‘Lucky Number Seven’ for Women Run the Cities – seven years strong,” said Beth Dutcher, one of three race directors for the event along with Robin Armstrong, Stewart Title, and Tamara Simon, Infinia Bank. “We are proud of our history and track record and each year we strive to make the experience of every runner, walker, volunteer and spectator

top notch. It is energizing to see so much pride, encourage-ment and excitement among participants, from the first-timer to the experienced.”

Participants start and finish their races at Minnehaha Park in Minneapolis, with the 10-mile run beginning at 8:00am, the girls’ 1-mile run at 8:10am, and the women’s 5k run/walk at 8:30am. The course takes runners through the park and roads along both the Minneapolis and St. Paul sides of the Missis-sippi River.

“This unique event engages women and girls who desire to realize their dreams and live healthy lifestyles,” said Dutch-er. “MNCREW’s Women Run the Cities provides a venue for women and girls of all ages to physically challenge them-selves in a non-intimidating environment. Sharing a running and walking event with thousands of women is a source of inspiration and power that lasts well beyond race day.”

The event has sold out for the past several years so runners are encouraged to sign up soon. This year’s limit is 3,000 participants. For more information and online registration, go to www.womenrunthecities.com.
