Welcome to our newspaper!!!

This year, St. Patrick’s Kindergarten School has started a school paper in which you’ll have the opportunity to know more about, cooking and recipes, music, teachers, workshops, school society and more.

This semester, it´s the turn for the girls from 4th and 5th grade to be in charge of our school paper. They have been divided in groups and each group has a section to investigate about, according with the month.

We want to thank you all for the support you can provide to our girls. They sure are enjoying this new project.

Homeschooling is a legal option for parents in many countries.

Homeschooling or homeschool (also called home education or home based learning) is the education of children at home, typically by parents or by tutors, rather than in other formal settings of public or private school.

Although prior to the introduction of compulsory school attendance laws, most childhood education occurred within the family or community, homeschooling in the modern sense is an alternative in developed countries to attending public or private schools. Homeschooling is a legal option for parents in many countries, allowing them to provide their children with a learning environment as an alternative to public or private schools outside the home.

Some countries where homeschooling is ilegal are:Brazil, China, Croatia, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Spain and Turkey.

Homeschooling can be used as a form of supplementary education, a way of helping children learn, in specific circumstances. For instance, children that attend downgraded schools can greatly benefit from homeschooling ways of learning, using the immediacy and low cost of the Internet.

One Direction compare their "pop harmonies" to those of boy bands 'N Sync, Backstreet Boy.

One Direction's debut studio album, Up All Night (2011), is predominantly a pop music record, containing elements of teen pop, dance pop, pop rock and power pop, with electropop and rock influences.

Artist of the month. One Direction

Digital Spy's Robert Copsey described the album as a "collection of pg pop rock with killer choruses", while The New York Times considered it "full of easy rock-inflected pop, blithe and sometimes clever." Jason Lipshutz of Billboardopined that the album demonstrates an originality in sound that was "necessary for the revitalization of the boy band movement", comparing their "pop harmonies" to those of boy bands 'N Sync, Backstreet Boys and 98 Degrees. Songs "One Thing" and "What Makes You Beautiful" were particularly noted for the genres of power pop and pop rock, for their "powerhouse" guitar riffs and "forceful" choruses

In Merida we all enjoy food, that’s why we are sharing some details about food for Halloween. Without a doubt the most recognizable symbol of Halloween is a pumpkin carved into a jack-o-lantern.

The tradition of carving a lantern started

in Scotland and Ireland where it was traditionally carved from a turnip, and in England where a beet was used. They were created on All Hallows' Eve and left on the door step to ward off evil spirits. An offering or, as we now know it, a "treat", would also be commonly left to placate roaming sprites and evil spirits — otherwise they might 'fiddle' with property or livestock (play a "trick"). Once the tradition moved to the US, it was adapted to carving the fruit of the pumpkin plant as they were more readily available, bigger and easier to carve.

Another fun thing to do with pumpkins this month is a delicious pumpkin pie. Why don´t you try our recipe?

Ingredients• 1 (15 ounce) can pumpkin• 1 (14 ounce) can EAGLE BRAND®

Sweetened Condensed Milk• 2 large eggs• 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon• 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger• 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg• 1/2 teaspoon salt• 1 (9 inch) unbaked pie crustDirections• Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Whisk

pumpkin, sweetened condensed milk, eggs, spices and salt in medium bowl until smooth. Pour into crust. Bake 15 minutes.

• Reduce oven temperature to 350 degrees F and continue baking 35 to 40 minutes or until knife inserted 1 inch from crust comes out clean. Cool. Garnish as desired. Store leftovers covered in refrigerator.

In Mexico, Halloween has been celebrated since roughly 1960. There, celebrations have been influenced by the American traditions, such as the costuming of children who visit the houses of their neighborhood in search of candy. Though the "trick-or-treat" motif is used, tricks are not generally played on residents not providing candy. Older crowds of preteens, teenagers and adults will sometimes organize Halloween-themed parties, which might be scheduled on the nearest available weekend. Usually kids stop by at peoples' houses, knock on their door or the ring the bell and say "¡Noche de Brujas, Halloween!

Halloween or Hallowe'en (a contraction of its original title "All Hallows' Evening"), also known as All Hallows' Eve, is a yearly holiday observed around the world on October 31.Typical festive Halloween activities include trick-or-treating (also known as "guising"), attending costume parties, carving jack-o'-lanterns, lighting bonfires, apple bobbing, visiting haunted attractions, playing pranks, telling scary stories, and watching horror films, as well as the religious observances of praying, fasting and attending vigils or church services.

Do you want your child to have healthy eating habits instilled in them from an early age?

Healthy eating can stabilize children’s energy, sharpen their minds, and even out their moods.This edition we want you to learn about “The Nutritional Cooking Workshop”. With a group of 10- 15 students this course meets weekly for about an hour out of their regular class schedule.

Our reporters interviewed Miss Maria Fernanda, who is in charge of the workshop.

The goals at the end of this workshop are:

• Create a positive attitude towards food.

• To encourage acceptance of new foods.

• To give your child confidence to prepare some food items on their own.

Microwave ovens are popular for reheating previously cooked foods and cooking vegetables. .

Trick-or-treating evolved from the ancient Celtic tradition of putting out treats and food to placate spirits who roamed the streets at Samhain, a sacred festival that marked the end of the Celtic calendar year.

Halloween is the 2nd most commercially successful holiday, with Christmas being the first.

Orange and black are Halloween colors because orange is associated with the fall harvest and black is associated with darkness and death.

Halloween is the third biggest party day of the year, behind New Year’s and Super Bowl Sunday.

Black cats were once believed to be witch's familiars who protected their powers.

I want to thank to the girls from 4th and 5th grade for their work, enthusiasm and effort in this firts edition of THE CLOVER. Also the teachers from St. Patrick’s for their help and support for the girls during their interviews, and to the principals for supporting this project.
