R.C.I.A RCIA – Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults

The Church, after the Second Vatican Council, has restored the Or-der of the Catechumenate in the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). Persons baptized in other Christian Churches and now seeking full communion with the Catholic Church are also wel-comed to participate along with Catechumens (unbaptized individu-als) in the RCIA process of learning about the Catholic faith and being formed in that faith. For a Baptized Christian, reception into full communion with the Catholic Church involves a Formal Profes-sion of Faith, Reception of the Sacrament of Reconciliation fol-lowed by the celebration of the Sacraments of Confirmation and the Eucharist. RCIA provides a forum for shared spiritual growth and a means to explore the Catholic Faith through: Sacred Scripture; Sa-cred Tradition; Liturgy and Prayer; the Sacraments; the Parish Com-munity and Individual Sponsorship. Men and women in all stages of their faith journey and from all backgrounds, come together in a non-threatening and non-pressured atmosphere to learn more about the Catholic Church. God calls, God invites, We respond. We will begin the process this fall in church for the 9:30 Mass be-ginning in October, where we will participate in the Liturgy of the Word and then be dismissed to go the Parish Office Building, (next door to the church), to continue the class. This is the time when we share our reflections on the meaning of the Gospel message for each one of us, followed by the teachings of the Church related to the theme of the week’s readings. Class usually ends at 11:15 a.m. Ma-terials will be given to participants for reflection and learning at home. *Anyone interested in learning more about the RCIA process is asked to call Eileen in the Religious Education Office, (860) 676-0253 or email: [email protected] .

WHERE DID I PUT IT?

On Saturday, September 10, 2016 the Order of Malta will hold the third

annual “Lourdes in a Day Pilgrimage” at St. Thomas Seminary in Bloom-

field, CT (www.stseminary.org/directions.html).

Known for their charism of defense of the Catholic faith and service to the

sick and the poor, the Order of Malta conducts this one-day pilgrimage to

allow those unable to make the trip to Lourdes, France to experience the

joy, grace and healing promised by Our Lady of Lourdes. In 1858, Our

Lady appeared to Bernadette Soubirous, a poor peasant girl, and revealed

herself as the Immaculate Conception. Her instructions were to drink and

bathe in the waters of the stream, which now holds the Grotto of Our

Lady of Lourdes and the baths that are infamous there. She also asked us to

pray, process and build a chapel – all done at the site of the apparition.

Mass and candlelight processions are a daily celebration in this small town

tucked in the Pyrenees Mountains.

You will experience many of these healing ministries as well as hear inspi-

rational reflections during this spiritual journey.

The day begins at 9:30 am with reconciliation; Mass with

Archbishop Leonard P. Blair at 10 a.m., lunch at noon and workshops for

the sick and their caretakers afterwards. The day will conclude at 4:30

p.m. There is NO cost.

Please register with Mark Sullivan at: 860-523-1405 or

[email protected] by Monday, August 15th.
