Page 2 4th Sunday in Lent Dear Friends in Christ,

I am very grateful to Fr. Bill Gaffney and Ms. Lisa Morris for conducting the Sacred Heart Mission for us. Thank you to all who helped out in one way or the other - PRFF Children, Knights of Columbus, Music Ministry, Evangelization Committee, Refreshment Committee and those who will make up the “promotors” of the Enthronement. Special thanks to Mai Wilson, who championed bringing the Sacred Heart Mission and Enthronement to St. Patrick.

The story of the Man born blind in today’s Gospel reading (John 9:1-41) is the story of every person. While most have the ability to see, there is, however, a greater value in that which we perceive (see),

illumined by the Holy Spirit. This is the gift of inner vision that comes with faith. Jesus restores not only the physical sight of the Man in the Gospel but also his inner vision of faith through which he recognizes Jesus as the Lord and Sav-ior who has come into the world. I pray that our journey of Lent with the Sacred Heart of Jesus will do the same for us.

In the first reading, from 1 Samuel 16, the children of Jesse had physical characteristics as potential kings of Israel. But the Lord said to the Prophet Samuel, “Do not judge from appearance…not as man sees...man looks at appearances but God looks at the heart.” We all need to pray for inner vision to see things the way that God does. The physical can derail our sense of judgment and darken our spiritual vision. There are many things that may seem acceptable and plausible to our world, cultures and customs but are in direct contrast to God’s ways, and it is possible to be deceived unless one has the inner and spiritual vision. To this end, St. Paul reminds us in the second reading that we have been enlightened by Christ.

Jesus who illumines the vision of all, opens the eyes of the Man born blind physically but more so He opens his heart and inner vision. In contrast to the leaders who claimed to see but remained blinded by pride and arrogance this man’s faith envisions and recognizes Jesus to be the Savior. Let us pray that our Lenten journey should open our hearts and our inner vision so we can recognize Jesus in our Prayer, Fasting and charitable deeds.

Thank you to all who worked so hard in organizing and putting everything in place for our Annual St. Patrick Dinner last Saturday evening. Congratulations to all the winners - baskets, 50/50 raffle and Pot of Gold - whose names are listed on pages 4 & 5. Special thanks goes out to our Chairpersons Mike & Annette Coughlin. I’m already looking forward to next year.

Prayerfully,

Fr. Godwin

Fridays: March 31 & April 7 6:00PM in the Church

The Stations of the Cross is a Lenten devotion that offers witness to Jesus’ Passion and Death. At each station we use our senses and our imagination to reflect prayerfully upon Jesus’ suffering, Death, and Resurrection, and to simply experience the visual images to reflect on Christ’s love for us..

Lenten Friday Simple Soup & Salad Dinners After walking the way of the cross with Jesus, come and share fellowship with your parish family while enjoying a simple soup and salad Lenten meal. Supper begins im-mediately upon completion of the stations at about 7:00PM in Muldoon Hall. There is no cost, but a free willing offering is appreciated. The funds collected help to fund the next week’s supper.

Each week’s supper is sponsored/chaired by a different ministry or organization.

The Seven Church Visitation April 13th, Holy Thursday Evening

St. Patrick McHenry

Christ the King Wonder Lake

For centuries Catholics have been visiting seven churches in their area on Holy Thursday after the Mass of the Lord’s Supper. This pilgrimage prac-tice originated in Rome, where the faithful visited the seven Roman Basilicas saying prayers and “watching” in adoration at each. This evening pilgrimage corresponds to the seven stops of the Via Cruces that were made by Jesus on His way to Calvary.

St. Patrick’s Ladies Guild offers you the opportunity to participate in this Holy Thursday tradition, by visiting 7 local churches. We will begin by leaving the St. Patrick parking lot at 9:00PM. We will spend approx. 20 minutes per church (including travel time to, time in the church and return to transportation). We will carpool to each church and meet and enter the church as a group. We will return to St. Patrick by 11:30PM and you may spend as little or as much time here as you wish - adoration will end at Midnight.

For planning purposes, we ask that you contact the parish office (815-385-0025) by Tuesday, April 11th if you will join us. Please let us know if you’d be willing to be a driver or would rather be a passenger.

Vocations Corner – The Desires of Our Hearts

“If I find in myself desires which nothing in this world can sat-isfy, the only logical explanation is that I was made for another world.” ~ C. S. Lewis

Our hearts were made by God and for God. We could in fact extend this by rightfully saying that the whole reason why God created us (and the world and all that is in it) was in order to share His love with us and to receive our love in return. If we search the depths of our hearts and if we are honest with our-selves, I truly believe that each and every one of us without exception, will find that there is a desire within each of us that nothing in this world can satisfy or fulfill. When applying this to C.S. Lewis’ beautiful quote, this proves for us the truth: all of us in fact have been created for another world. We are called to sanctity because becoming a saint is the one and only way to enter into the world that we have ultimately been created for. This means that we need to spend the days of our lives striving to grow in holiness and virtue and to discovering the individual path that God has planned for each of us. It is only in trying to hear and follow God’s voice that we will have the deepest longings and desires of our hearts satisfied. So today reach out in prayer to the one who made you out of love, and ask Him how He is calling you to love Him in return.

Dear Friend: Where Will You Spend Eternity? Compared to eternity, this life on earth is not even a drop in the bucket!! Holy Scripture tells us to be ready at any moment, by having our lamps filled with oil. What the Lord was referring to here, was making sure that we are ready to meet Him by being in the perfect state of grace. What is the state of grace? It is what we get when we ask Jesus to forgive us and He forgives us of our sins in Confession and He fills us with grace. Jesus told St. Faustina: “When you approach the confessional, know this, that I Myself am waiting there for you. I am only hidden by the priest, but I Myself act in your soul. Here the misery of the soul meets the God of Mercy. The person of the priest is, for Me, only a screen. Never analyze what sort of priest it is that I am making use of; open your soul in confession as you would to Me, and I will fill it with My light.” Diary 1602 Are you having trouble forgiving yourself and accepting Gods mercy? Do you think that you have committed so many sins that God could never forgive you? Do you think you have com-mitted the unforgivable sin? Jesus told St. Faustina “I am love and mercy itself. Let no soul fear to draw near to me, even though its sins be as scarlet. My mercy is greater than your sins and those of the entire world. I let my Sacred Heart be pierced with a lance, thus opening wide the source of my Mercy for you. Come then with trust and draw graces from this fountain.” Diary 699

Luckily, Joy remem-bered St. Vincent de Paul - one phone call later brought prayerful support, a tank of gas and several bags of food. This prayerful and material support helped bolster “Joy’s” hope and positive outlook for a brighter tomorrow. This amazing transformation could not be possible without your support of St. Vincent de Paul! Proverbs 31:20 “She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy.”

You will find an envelope in your packet of envelopes where you can make a donation towards Easter flowers/decorations in memory or in honor of a family member. You may also use this slip to make a donation.

All those names received will be remembered in our Easter celebration. All contributions must be made by Monday, April 3 in order to be included in our Easter bulletin. Any funds remaining will be used throughout the liturgical year to beautify the church sanctuary.

Sacraments

Baptism of Infants or children under 7 years of age:

You must be a registered parishioner of St. Patrick prior to scheduling a Baptism. To schedule a Baptism, please begin by calling the parish office. Baptism is celebrated on the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month immediately after the 11AM Mass. Please consider scheduling your child’s Baptism be-fore your child is born to ensure an opening in the month of your choice. In addition, a Baptismal preparation class is re-quired for the parents. This class is offered on the 1st Sunday of each month after the 9AM Mass. Sign-up is required and you may take the class before your child is born.

Sacrament of Marriage: At St. Patrick, couples planning to marry need to meet with the Pastor before a wedding date can be set. Please contact the parish office to setup an initial meeting at least 6 months prior to any requested marriage date. This initial meeting will give you an overview of the requirements for marriage and the preparation required. At least one of the couple, or their parents, must be registered parishioners for at least 6 months and be active participating members of St. Pat-rick Church in order to be married at the church. Both individuals must be at least 19 years of age.

The Intention of this Devotion is to console the Immaculate Heart of Mary by offering reparation for the blasphemies and ingratitude of unrepent-ant sinners, and for peace in the world.

The promise of our Blessed Mother Mary is to assist at the hour of death all those who complete the following require-ments on the First Saturday of five consecutive months. On each of the first Saturdays the following is necessary:

1.Go to confession. Available at St. Patrick beginning at 7:30AM. (Confession can be completed eight days before or after the First Saturday provided the communicant is in a state of grace when receiving The Lord.)

2.Receive Holy Communion - Mass will begin at 8:00AM 3.Say five decades of the Holy Rosary - Recited after Mass 4.Meditate for 15 minutes on the mysteries of the Holy Ro-

sary - After Mass

All the requirements can be fulfilled at St. Patrick if you chose to stay after Mass for the Rosary and Meditation. You may complete the 3rd/4th requirements at a later time, but it must be completed on that Saturday.
