The sin of Adam and Eve is to believe they do not need God in their lives. The devil tells them they can be like God if they eat the fruit of the tree. We see it in our culture today: Why do we need God? Why do we have to follow all the commandments? Why do I have to go to Mass on Sunday? The better question to ask is: How is God the foundation of my life? We are losing the fact all that we have in our world, our planet, our lives is God’s gift to us. We should be giving thanks and gratitude to God each week for all that we have. Instead of treating life and our planet as a commodity to be used for our convenience, we should treat it s a gift.

The responsorial psalm says, “With the Lord there is mercy and fullness of redemption.” St. Paul says in his letter to the Corinthians grace that is bestowed in abundance on more and more people may cause the thanksgiving to overflow for the glory of God. What better way to give glory to God then to treat all life as a precious gift.

When one conference of the Society of St Vincent de Paul helps another conference it is called TWINNING. St Mary’s SVdP is proud to twin with St Anthony’s SVdP conference in Providence. They are a much poorer parish then ours but carry a heavy work load in trying to help many.

A SVdP fiscal year is from Oct to Sept. For the past 6 months their cases have totaled 7,888. Cost in supplies totaled $4,949.49. Their food pantry is open Tues, Wed & Fri in their rectory basement. Persons fed; 2,005 adults and 1,509 children. New families equal 123 so far this year. Remember, these are 6 month totals and folks can shop 1x each month, unless it’s an emergency. So when you look at the totals, you can rest assured we are doing God’s work in assisting our poorer Vincentian families.

Per Ray Morgan, St Anthony SVdP director; “I can’t thank St Mary’s & St James enough for being a great twinning partner. God Bless you for all you do.”

St Mary’s/St James is a conference of 15 Vincentians. Total Vincentian hours served = 2740 last year. Total miles traveled = 8210 last yearIn the 20162017 time period we had 54 home visits which serviced 150 client friends. Some circumstances do not allow for an actual home visit, i.e. a homeless family, so we meet for instance at a Dunkin Donuts. We had 26 such visits this past year which helped 70 people.

St Mary’s/St James SVdP remains dedicated to helping our local population in need. The poor and suffering of our local township are our primary concern. Unfortunately there are many. But if our budget allows, due to your God driven generosity, we feel compelled to do what we can for others in need. St Anthony’s was chosen as the recipient of a one time donation for the fiscal year 2017/2018.

Thank you so very much for all your support !Your humble servants,The Society of St Vincent de Paul

Report—Status of A Place of Our Own May 21, 2018 We all should be very proud that we are well on our way to having A Place of Our Own. In the last two months great progress has been made despite numerous snow and rain delays. Much of the work is not obvious because it is underground. The septic tank has been installed with a long line from the building to the septic system. A storm water runoff line has been installed from the new building to the basin in the north-west corner and preparations have been made for electricity and water connections between the two buildings. The building foundation was poured and has since been water sealed and insulated. Very soon, the floor to the basement and the slab for the main area will be poured. The sills have been completed around the building, joists have been installed and soon the building walls will begin to go up. In addition, at the well, a new pump with new wiring has been installed (to replace the 25 year old system), and water flow testing has been completed for submittal to the Dept. of Health. The Committee has already addressed the questions of the sound system, appliances in the pantry, furniture in the building and all the lighting required. Other details are on our to-do list. Thanks to the Building Committee for all their work, especially Barry Goewey, our architect, and to our General Contractor/parishioner, Mike Cocci. The Building Committee members listed here, and feel free to contact one if you have any questions. Father Paul Ray Castaldi Doug Noble Jim White Ron Dubois Richard Lambert Dave Sloan Barry Goewey Tom Canning Leo Mainelli, Chr. Also, it is not too late to make a donation to the Capital Campaign. Please call Doug Noble or Leo Mainelli if you need a pledge card or wish to discuss a pledge. Leo Mainelli, 322- 0646
