Dear Brothers and Sisters in the Risen Lord Jesus,
Lift High the Cross!
Alleluia!
We are in the process of fabricating a new cross for the peak of St Mary's. The new cross will be identical to the fallen one, but stronger and just as beautiful!
We are calling our replacement and restoration campaign "Lift High the Cross!" The value of this effort is captured by one person, who upon hearing of the campaign said this:
"The cross on the top of our beloved St. Mary’s Church is the greatest welcome to those who cross the Clark Bridge and enter our river city of Alton!! I always look for the cross coming across the bridge... I know I’m home!!! What a sight to behold!!"
Will you help us reach our goal of $50,000 to help pay for the cross, the updating of our air-handling system in the Church, the renovation of our downstairs bathrooms and the back porch of the rectory, and a little sprucing up of the Mary Ann Room?
Any financial gift helps, and all donors will receive a St Mary's Cross Prayer Card. Donations of $50 or more will receive a small piece of the fallen cross as a memento of your kindness to St Mary's (See bulletin front cover illustration, an artists rendition of the gift – a piece of the copper cross on wood).
Donations may be dropped off at the parish office anytime during the week or put in the Sunday collection. Please be sure to mark your gift as "Lift High The Cross" along with your contact information, so we'll know to put it toward the campaign and be able to thank you.
Thank you for your loving support of our beautiful parish home!
Lift High the Cross!

FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTERFocus: It is in and through Jesus alone
that we can attain salvation.
Our world often tells us that we should be strong, secure and self-sufficient on our own. We may be able to do this in certain areas of our lives, but not when it comes to salvation. Jesus is the Good Shepherd who is our strength, our protection and our salvation.
In the first reading, Peter says, there is no salvation through anyone else but Jesus. In the reading from the First Letter of John, we are called children of God. In the Gospel, Jesus says that he is the Good Shepherd, and he will lay his life down for us, his sheep.
PART ONE - THE PROFESSION OF FAITHSECTION ONE - "I BELIEVE" - "WE BELIEVE"
God Comes To Meet Man – The Stages of Revelation”59. In order to gather together scattered humanity God calls Abram from his country, his kindred and his father's house,16 and makes him Abraham, that is, "the father of a multitude of nations". "In you all the nations of the earth shall be blessed."17

"Rachel mourns her children; she refuses to be consoled because her children are no more. Thus says the Lord: Cease your cries of mourning. Wipe the tears from your eyes. The sorrow you have shown shall have its reward. There is hope for your future." – Jeremiah 31: 15-17
PRAYER CORNERSong Of Myself
Before I was knit in my mother’s wombOf the fiber of my parents’ love,
His eyes beheld my unformed substance. His book recorded the number of my days.
He Who Is foreknew me,Predestined me, called me by name
And said,“You are mine, held in my right hand, to be justified
and glorified in Christ.”
Each day, I answer to a name no one else answers to.And when in human weakness I botch
God’s thought or way,He says,
“My power is made perfect in weakness.”
