~B O W ~ Suggested text for faith sharing: Today’s Gospel, the short version
The 15th Sunday in Ordinary Time W J 16, 2017
T : Discipleship—opening our hearts to Jesus’ word and acting upon it.
S O : L W Hearing the Gospel re-read today, what words or phrases in the reading strike you? What image from this reading lingers in your mind? Q C : Who helps you to grow deeper in your faith?
Q Y : When the sower, in this week’s Gospel, sowed his seed, not all of it fell in “good soil.” What can you do in the coming week to make sure that you are open to God in your life? What is getting in the way of your being “good soil?
Q A : Using the parable of Jesus in this reading, describe how faith has been planted in your life? How long did it take for that seed to land “on good soil?”

“Threads of Love”—Prayer Shawl Ministry
* Change of Meeting Place* We gather every 1st and 3rd Tuesday. Choice of Afternoon - 12:30pm or Evening - 6:30pm. Groups will meet at St. Mary’s School Library while the church is being refurbished. New members are always welcome. We knit and crochet prayer shawls for those who are ill and for the bereaved. We also make Baptismal garments for the wee ones. Patterns and instructions are available. We provide the yarn. Thanks to the generosity of the community, we have been able to provide yarn for those who prayerfully labor creating these beautiful shawls. If you would like to support Threads of Love but cannot participate, please consider a donation to help us defray the cost of yarn. Please call or text Peg Feyl at 973-886-4001 for information or request a shawl for a friend or relative. Registration forms are available in school lobby.

RCIA — Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
Church Renovation Update III
CHURCH RENOVATION UPDATE IV Progress continues at a positive pace! The plaster work is finishing and the painting preparation is beginning. Repairs to the air-conditioning system were needed, as some of the vent systems required maintenance to not only get them operating at 100%, but seal air leaks that allowed intrusion of outside heated air, reducing their overall efficiency.
The new wainscoting requires expert installation and will be stained to match the overall new look that the church proper will have. Repair and leveling of the sidewall steam radiators (they are under the grill work) is beginning soon. These radiators require replacement of the individual regulators that should improve efficiency, as well as evenly distribute the heat to all areas of the church. Repairs to the church are like “peeling back the layers of an onion”, there are unexpected issues that arise and great care is being taken to resolve them individually. This dedication to performing “quality” repairs will be a major benefit to St. Mary’s and our parishioners for many years to come. As work continues, please do not enter the church for a “peek” as this presents a danger, not only to you, but the workers who are on high scaffolds, ladders and scissor lifts. We have heard many positive comments from parishioners about the transformation and comfort of the auditorium as our temporary place of worship, including the additions of the “Stations of the Cross”. Thank you for your patience and continued support! The Auditorium remains open during the week for visitation of the Sacrament all day. Please make certain any drop off items are placed in their respective areas in the school lobby. Please continue to support all these efforts.
The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults is meant for those who:
- have never been baptized but are curious about Christ and all He taught;
- have been baptized in other Christian traditions, but have an interest in Catholics and the Catholic Church;
- are already baptized Catholic but have never received Eucharist and/or Confirmation.
These are the people the Rite of Christian Initiation seeks to reach and to serve. We are accepting enrollment for the 2017-18 session. The session starts in the Fall and candidates receive the sacraments at the Easter Vigil in March.
Perhaps you know someone who may have questions about the faith, the process of RCIA, or a desire to be received into the Church. Think about it, pray about it, and offer an invitation.
Anyone interested is asked to contact Andrea Henry, RCIA Coordinator at [email protected] or call 973-714-6844.
Bereavement
“Seasons of Hope” will begin again late- August 2017. Because summer is a time when most people want freedom from schedules, during summer months we do not schedule any new programs.
As the group comes together we will determine the exact starting date based on participants’ schedules.
Our“ “Seasons” Program runs for 8 consecutive Wednesday evenings ending with a service of remembrance. ONGOING SUPPORT: “Seasons – The Journey” meets every 2nd Thursday of the month in the Narthex of the Church. “The Journey” is open to anyone who has attended any of our 8-week Seasons Programs. Registration forms are available in the Bereavement Literature Rack in the Narthex. During the month of July there is no Journey Meeting. We are planning our Annual Picnic which is scheduled for 5:30 on the 2nd Thursday in August on the parish grounds . For more information please call or text Peg Feyl at 973-886-4001 or email [email protected]
Sponsored by Assumption College for Sisters, Chris Lowney will speak on the topic of leadership, featuring his latest work, Everyone Leads: How to Revitalize the Catholic Church.
The lecture will be here in St. Mary’s Church.
There is no admission; however, a free will offering can be made for Lowney’s foundation, Pilgrimage for Our Children’s Future.
