Winchester Boy Scout Troop 507
Saturday, January 9, 2016
Let Boy Scout Troop 507 help recycle your Christmas tree! On Saturday, January 9th, have the Scouts pick up your Christmas tree
and bring it to the Transfer Station. This year marks the 22nd season that this successful
fundraiser has helped Winchester residents dispose of their old trees, while helping the troop raise money to offset costs of trips and camping
equipment. To schedule a tree pick up, send your name, address, and phone number with a check for $10 per tree payable to BSA Troop 507,
c/o Steve Bell, 39 Myrtle Terrace, Winchester, MA 01890. Or you can sign up with a Boy Scout from Troop
507 at the Transfer Station on the following Saturdays: December 19th, December 26th, and January 2nd. The order deadline is Monday, January
4th.

Advent Star “Thank You!”
To our wonderful parish family, Thank You! Your generosity through our Advent Star program is
amazing! Did you know your contributions total approximately $40,000 a year? Everyone has a
hand in it. Our elementary kids cut out stars. Our middle school kids put all 1,100 stars up. Our high
school kids organize and distribute. And, our parishioners – YOU – purchase all the gifts. What
a team effort! You are a blessing! Merry Christmas!
CLERGY BENEFIT TRUST
Christmas Collection December 19/20, 2015 Every Christmas, Catholics across the Archdiocese of Boston join together to honor and thank our priests. Your gift to the Clergy Health and Retirement Trust helps to ensure an appropriate level of care and quality of life for our 614 active and senior priests. Remember priests who have made a meaningful difference in your life, and consider honoring him/them with a generous gift to the Christmas collection. Our priests are there for us in times of need. Now it is our turn to care for them when they need us. All are welcome to make a gift online at clergyfunds.org, use the in-pew envelopes that will be provided, or simply text the word PRIEST to 56512 (Msg. & data rates may apply). Thank you in advance for your prayers and generous support of our priests.

Mission Statement St. Mary’s Catholic Community strives to live the
Gospel of Jesus Christ, “love one another.” Jesus is the heart of our community and Sunday Liturgy is the center of our worship. With Mary as our patroness and model, we open our hearts and community to all. As we journey in faith, we grow through our sacramental life, Christian education, and opportunities for spiritual enrichment. Our vision is expressed in a commitment to peace and justice, respect for all life, appreciation for the unique gifts of every person, and outreach to those in need. Our parish family affirms all members in their search for truth as they meet the challenge of being Catholics in this modern world.

and listening to familiar carols on Sunday, December 20 at 7:00. “Holy Light” is a candlelight service that reflects on the miracle of the birth of
Christ through choral arrangements by Robert Hobby, who recently was commissioned to compose two pieces for the Papal Mass at St.
Patrick’s Cathedral during the recent visit by Pope Francis. Interspersed between the carols sung by our wonderful 36 member
choir will be inspirational readings by Susan Palo Cherwien. Allow the light of Christ to permeate your hearts and better prepare you to spread
the Christmas message of love and hope to a fractured world.
If you find yourself needing a break from the commercialism of Christmas, reward yourself by spending an evening singing

As we draw closer to Christmas, our attention turns to a tiny Bethlehem, where the Son of God will be born, and the teenager Mary, who is to bear this Son of God into the world. A small town and a young, seemingly insignificant Jewish girl show us that God’s plans include each and every one of us , whether we are wealthy, rich, and strong or not. Let us continue our joyful Advent vigil for the One who will bring salvation, justice mercy and peace. How can I “go out of myself” this week and throughout the Christmas season to bring the “balm of God’s tender mercy?” Think of a specific person or situation.
