A great amount of thanks is due
to Cardinal Dolan who – unlike
other bishops – permitted
Churches to remain open and
gave some latitude for things
like Confession and more
during this trying time.
Marian Visits to First
Communion Kids!
Adoration Sundays from 9am-Noon
Confessions are in lot from 1-230pm
From a parish with
plenty of front-line
workers - a big
thank you!
Thank you to Brother Zach who has
been keeping us connected through
the recorded offering of Mass each
weekend, various videos and the
Little Lamb’s video “open house.”
ST. MARY’S STIMULUS PLAN - Made possible by a benefactor to “keep people working,” this program is
for our parishioners who are currently underemployed/unemployed and who are contractors and skilled
laborers in need of temporary work. If you are skilled in seal coating, painting, light construction, or
carpentry, and have time to offer your services to the parish, please complete the brief, confidential
form on our website & Father Maurer will review it and be in touch with you shortly afterwards.
Or the “PPP” (Parishioner Protection Program) Parishioners who are experiencing financial hardship in
regard to covering the cost of groceries, utilities, or other major bills may be eligible for grants up to
$250 to help offset expenses. (Examples include grocery gift cards, utility bills, car payments, etc.) If
eligible, you will not be required to pay back this grant; we only ask that if your future circumstances
permit it, that you pay it forward. To apply, please complete the brief form below. Your information will
remain confidential and be reviewed only by Father Maurer. Grants are administered directly to the
company/agency for which the request is being made, O&R, gift cards for groceries, etc.
If you have questions, please contact us at [email protected], call the parish office at
845-496-3730, or reach out to us on Facebook (St. Mary’s Washingtonville).

I want to let our senior citizens at Saint
Mary’s know that they are loved, missed
and prayed for in a particular way. One of
my “Communion calls” turned 98 last
month! Her kids were baptized in the “old
wooden church in the parking lot” but grew
up on the West Side of Manhattan – she
has a great voice for singing and was
trained in it at a fancy Catholic school in
Manhattan where one of her teachers was
the daughter of JP Morgan, who converted
to the Catholic Faith and became a nun!
All of our seniors citizens are missed and
we can’t wait till we’re back!
CATHOLIC CHARITIES & PARISH COUNSELING
NETWORK
Catholic Charities' short-term counseling network is specifically designed to
meet the needs of parishioners adjusting to the current crisis. Through
telephonic services, therapists are available to help parishioners adjust to one of
the most significant and troubling challenges of our lifetimes; coping strategies
are offered to manage altered routines, anxiety, fear, stress, and a sense of
crisis. The network has Spanish language capacity.
All you need to do is request a referral from Father.
REQUESTING A REFERRAL: Before you call the number below, please send us a
brief email at [email protected] notifying Father Maurer
you’re interested in this service (details are NOT necessary), and include your
name and cell phone number. He will be in touch with you and make the
referral as quickly as possible. It’s that simple.

On May 30th
- Cardinal Dolan announced that the
Archdiocese has a plan in place for the re-opening of
our Churches.
This plan has 4 Stages:
Stage One: times for private prayer and confessions
Stage Two: Celebration of Baptisms and Marriages
Stage Three: Funeral Masses & Daily Mass
Stage Four: Sunday Masses with supervised
attendance
Please note that the starting dates for each phase have not yet been
established and that they, most likely, will be “region by region” and
will follow the starting dates established by state mandates. We will
follow the policies of the New York Archdiocese.

Call them – 845.496.2119
As the COVID lockdown began we committed
to calling the folks we have each weekend to
check in on them and see how they’re doing.
We tried over 1500 numbers to call and found
a lot of “dead 496” numbers. Many people
have completely gone to cell phones so we’re
asking that you fill out a sheet in this packet
and mail it to us so we can use the time this
summer to update everything.
There were so many wonderful
pictures from Easter because, frankly,
Easter was wonderful. Thanks for
your enthusiasm & devotion during
the strangest Easter in our lives.
I cannot tell you how grateful I
am for your support for Saint
Mary’s during this critical time.
You have helped us keep
everyone on staff and also
provide funds to really help
folks. These programs are
outlined in the pages before this
and in the projects list below.
THANK YOU
THANK YOU
THANK YOU
First Communions, Baptisms and Confirmations!
Fear not, Religious Education is going to be in touch with you soon and
will have all of them done over the summer in the evenings – thank
you for your patience and know that they will be beautiful and
personal – trust me – you’ll love them.
Like everything else in during this time we have a plan and will make
each sacrament as reverent and special as it deserves to be.
Get me in the water! Give
us a ring and we will
work Baptism out for
you during the summer!
Give yourself a tech Sabbath once a week
To all of you middle & HS kids
in our parish and youth
ministry – know that while
school may be on pause – our
prayers for you continue.
Religious Ed Updates Registration continues for CCD and a “Welcome Email” can be found in your inbox on March 3rd
from Parish Giving. If you made note of your log in information from last year, use that to sign in. You will need to pay first and then choose a session. If
you are adding a Level 1 student, please be sure the child's grade level is noted when you add the name
and birthday.
If your child was not baptized at St. Mary’s, we will need a copy of the Baptismal certificate emailed
[email protected] or place a copy in the mail to St. Mary’s Religious Education
42 Goshen Avenue Washingtonville 10992.
Since the Camp Veritas has been cancelled everywhere except Florida, register your Level 7
child for the Confirmation/Non-Camp class on Monday evenings. Any child going into grade 7 in
September. Thanks for your patience with all of this chaos in the world and education right now.
If there is worry about affording it – speak with us – we’ll help you.
During this time of quarantine, some of the things that we have been holding onto for strength are both
faith and family. We here at St. Mary’s have been doing our best to try to keep connected to you, our parish
family, whether it’s through Drive-in Confessions, Easter Processions, First Communion Visits, and Videos
of Mass & more.
Our Catholic Faith is a relationship, one that includes not only “me & Jesus” but also the larger family of faith. This is a family that extends across nations, time, and space linking me personally and our age to Jesus and to the Father, Holy Spirit, Our Lady, and all the Angels and Saints in every age, united in love and grace. Some of the first people who taught us to pray are our parents: our mother and father. Whether its teaching us the basic prayers: the Our Father, the Hail Mary, the Glory be, and the Creeds, to going to Mass together on Sundays and Holy Days, or to praying grace before meals together. Our parents help us in their love for us, despite their strengths and failings, to see that in life we are never alone. The same is true with our Heavenly Mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary.
When we unite ourselves to Jesus through the hands of His Mother and Ours, no matter what earthly joys and trials we may face, Our Lord will take care of us and give us what we need to follow him and be faithful to him in this earthly life. Be assured of my continued prayers for you all and I look forward to seeing you around at church, whether it’s for private prayer and hopefully soon for public Mass.

With the closing of schools, Little Lambs’ Preschool has
finished out the school year with a video lesson by the
teachers, emailed to our three and four year olds, a
socially distanced drive by to say good bye & to collect our
certificates, and lastly, via email attachment, a year’s
memories in a slideshow of the children to each family.
Moving forward to a new school year, our website
stmaryslittlelambs.org can be accessed best through a
desktop device; where info about registration, including a
virtual tour through the school can be seen. Registration
is ongoing, just call 845-496-7221 or email me at
[email protected] All of us at Little Lambs
pray you have a restful and healthy summer recess.

- Nuts and Bolts – Facilities Upgrades – Helping Workers-
Since so many folks need work especially in the fields on construction and more
after a three month “lockdown” from the Governor – we wanted to help them out.
So St. Mary’s is using our savings to hire parishioners only to build an outdoor
area for drive in Masses & more, sealcoat our parking lot, paint and refurbish
some areas which need a bit of attention. We will also work on some planning for
a cemetery expansion because we need space in the future.
Welcome Sisters! We’ve been very grateful for the
added ministry of the Sisters, Parish Visitors of
Mary Immaculate; they will be coming on board in
the Fall to help in various ministries depending on
how all of the virus restrictions allow us.
The Rosary

RCIA and Catholicism 101
Last September folks gathered to
prepare for receiving a Sacrament or to
simply learn more about their Catholic
Faith. Our routine came to a halt in
mid-March. We paused for a few
weeks, but when it became apparent
that we were not going to be able to
meet in person any time soon, we
offered our 28 students the
opportunity to continue the course
online using Zoom. 21 of the 28 class
members attended our first Zoom Class
which was planned to test out the
zoom and work out the bugs. We took
the time to reconnect with each other
and talked about how the quarantine
was affecting each one of us and our
families. Since then we have ‘met’ for
our class on The Ten Commandments
and are looking forward to continuing
every Monday night to complete the
original curriculum.
Women’s Zoom
Bible Study
Our Genesis Bible study is underway & if
you’d like to join us, via zoom, our class is
held on Thursdays 6:30-8:00 pm.
