We are reminded today that the seed that falls
on good ground will yield a fruitful harvest.
What kind of soil do we have? God's word
needs to take root in our lives so that we can
remain faithful not only when life is easy
but when it gets challenging and difficult.
Anxiety, worldly cares and concerns, personal
challenges, experiences of loss and death, and
even fear and disappointment can prevent us
from trusting God's promise. We can even find
ourselves doubting God's fidelity and lose
touch with his presence. Our soil can easily
become rocky, hard, and unyielding. Open your
eyes and ears today and let all that is around
you lead you to God's presence. Then, do all in
your power to cultivate and nurture a life that
is eager to receive him and fertile for growing
the seeds of God's kingdom.
Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,
I want to congratulate the young parishioners from
our partner parishes that are 2017 parish youth honor
recipients. They were honored by Bishop Malesic at
the diocesan youth ministry honors and recognition
Mass on July 9. In Kittanning, Bernadette Boylan,
Jonathan Kamis, Jacob Parisi and Noah Shoenfelt and
in Yatesboro, Haley DiDiano, Xavier Julius, Chucky Skamai and Ben Vicini were recognized. I want to
congratulate them and their parents for this and wish them well in their future.
In Yatesboro, I have hired Barbara Boltz to be the financial secretary. She will only work one day
a week since she currently is the financial secretary at St. Patrick Parish, Brady's Bend and Our Lady
of the Assumption Parish in Coral/Lucernemines. I welcome her to our St. Mary, Mother of God
Parish staff. She will work on the parish finances with me, finance council and Betty Rose Walker,
office manager. She is a member of St. Patrick Parish and lives with her husband, Joe,
in Sugarcreek Township. She has 3 adult children and is originally from North Huntingdon. I was her
pastor before being transferred 4 years ago to Kittanning and Yatesboro and look forward to working
with her again.
Summertime is a busy time and sometimes our regular Mass schedule on the weekends might
conflict. Do not forget that there is a regional Mass on Sunday at 7 p.m. at St. Lawrence Parish,
Cadogan. If you attend Mass there, you can put in your envelopes and they will be returned to the
proper parish. Also, if you go to another parish in our diocese at anytime, your envelopes will be
returned.
