What contribution did Mary Mackillop make to Australia or the world?In Adelaide, Mary opened an orphanage for people young and old, male and female.The Sisters visited people in jail and those who were poor and sick. As more and more young women joined Mary as Sisters, they were able to start more schools. All children were welcome at the Josephite schools, which provided free Catholic education. In 1866 the Sisters began the first St Josephs School in an old stable.
