October Gives Us a Unique Beauty
October is resplendent with the beauty of nature. The fall gives us an invigorating lift. We seem to feel “fully alive” looking forward to a new beginning filled with energy. Would you be willing to channel some of that energy to help those less fortunate by sorting through your home for the following: clothing, small appliances, shoes, tools, linens, sheets, towels, stuffed animals, novels and children’s books? The Catholic Charities Donation Bins are located in the north parking lot. Thank you.
Senior Lucan News
The St Luke Senior Lucans will be having their next meeting on Thursday, October 14. The meeting will take place IN THE GYM
at 10 am, following 9 am Mass. Members attending should park in the rectory lot, walk thru the cloister between the rectory and church, and use the door (one small flight down) to the gym, or use the elevator, if necessary. Refreshments will be served.

A FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON THE SUNDAY READINGS HIS WORD TODAY
by Rev. William J. Reilly Most Holy Name Catholic Church, Garfield, NJ
Twenty-eighth Sunday in Ordinary Time October 10, 2021
“As Jesus was setting out on a journey, a man ran up, knelt down before him and asked, ‘Good teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?’... ‘You know the commandments’... He replied, ‘Teacher, all these I have observed from my youth.’ Jesus, looking at him, loved him, and said to him, ‘You are lacking in one thing. Go, sell what you have, and give to the poor and you will have rich treasure in heaven, then come, and follow me.’” The scene is easy to visualize, the conversation clear and simple, but the challenge is awesome. Am I willing to take the place of the man, approaching Jesus and asking the same question? Like Him I can probably respond that I too try to observe the ten commandments or the two great commandments of love of God and neighbor. Perhaps Jesus is indicating that I too am lacking one thing. What is it? The man was asked to forfeit his riches and treasures. What is my one thing, what is my treasure which can be the barrier to eternal life? Jesus looks at me today and He loves me too.
