CAMP VER5ITAS NEWS Camp Veritas will be expanding our regular Mt. St. Mary’s site in Newburgh, NY July 19th-25th to include a basketball camp option during the regular Veritas week. Teens will be bused to Lourdes High School in Poughkeepsie and will be instructed by the Varsity head coach, Jim Santoro. These kids will then join regular Veritas programming starting at Mass in the afternoon. It is a great opportunity for teens that are not enthusiastic to attend a “Catholic Camp” on their summer break, but might be more apt to attend a “basketball camp.” Camp Veritas will be opening a week in Ireland June 28th-July 4th. Camp will be held at Gormanston College, a boarding school attached to a castle located 20 minutes north of the Dublin airport in the countryside. The CFR Friars and Sisters of Ireland will be there. If any of you have contacts or family in Ireland, please personally notify them about camp. In the off chance that you are intending on going to the Ireland camp, check with your accountant, but adult volunteers can take a charitable deduction on their taxes as long as expenses are related to the volunteer work at the camp. Camp Veritas had an amazing 1st year with 200 people attending last summer in Emmitsburg Maryland and will be holding camp again from July 26th-August 1st. The Maryland camp was excellent and, we hope to sell out this summer. Camp Veritas will be at Camp Lakota in Wurtsboro, NY from August 16th– 22nd. Lakota will sell out early so if that is your preferred site, keep that in mind. Bishop Caggiano of Bridgeport, CT will attend Wednesday, August 19th for Mass. ENROLLMENTS WILL BE OPEN JANUARY 1st. We are happy to announce that rates are essentially the same as last year at all sites. We have a new database and enrollment process called Camp-in-Touch where you will have a family-based account and you will be able to access your file includ-ing information for your children and your volunteer applica-tion all in one place! You will be able to print forms and docu-ments, add a photo of your child, edit your roommate request and make payments all in your account. Any prior campers or staff will already have some information in the system. You will have access to your existing file if you use the same email address you last used to sign up your child or yourself. Infor-mation and enrollments can be found at campveritas.com.

A FRESH PERSPECTIVE ON THE SUNDAY READINGS HIS WORD TODAY by Rev. William J. Reilly

“See, darkness covers the earth, and thick clouds cover the peoples; but upon you the Lord shines, and over you ap-pears his glory. Nations shall walk by your light, and kings by your shining radiance. Raise your eyes and look about; they all gather and come to you: your sons come from afar, and your daughters in the arms of their nurses. Then you shall be radiant with what you see, your heart shall throb and overflow.”

We continue to bask in the Christmas season. The Nativity, Holy Family and Motherhood of Mary lead us to the great Epiphany. We become immersed with details of three gifts, magi from the east, the plotting of Herod. Our camel led jour-ney brings us to the person of Christ.

As the astrologers returned to their place, changed by the Christ event, we too should reflect on the change which has taken place for us. Perhaps we travelled and visited, or others did us the favor. The light of Christ, perhaps has dimmed as we said goodbye and return to normal. Maybe there was some sadness too during the days of Christmas joy, the ab-sence of a loved one, or family member, because of death or sickness.

The prophet Isaiah reminds us of the light, the radiance, ‘raise your eyes and look about.’ The darkness of world and per-sonal problems cannot take away the brilliance of the light of Christ. The magi brought their treasures, and we have been given not gold, myrrh and frankincense, but we carry within us the treasure of Christ Himself. As they opened their coffers we continue to open our hearts to receive the Christ.
