CHURCH SUPPORT Due to early bulletin deadlines, last week’s collections will be reported the weekend of April 1/2nd. Your continued generosity supports all the worship, for-mation, evangelization, and service ministries of the parish. Thank you!

A TIME TO HEAL Please pray for the sick of the Parish especially,

Robert J. Andrew Sr.

OFFICE OF THE CARDINAL 1011 FIRST AVENUE NEW YORK, NY 10022 March , 2018 Season of Lent

Dear friends in the Lord: On Good Friday, a special collection is taken up in all parishes throughout the Catholic world to help support the Church in the Holy Land.

Sometimes, it is identified as a collection to support the “holy Places.” In actuality, through the good works of the Franciscan Custody of the Holy Land and the Holy Father’s Congregation for Eastern Churches, support is given not only to the Holy sites of our faith, but also to every aspect in the life of the Church in that beleaguered part of the world.

For example, the contributions of the Good Friday Collection help to sustain Catholic primary and secondary schools in the Holy Land, the Catholic University in Bethlehem, and a whole network of clinics and healthcare facilities in the Holy Land. Even special projects for social development are assisted by the collection.

Right now, the Christians of the Holy Land are a small minori-ty. They very much need our help, especially in these difficult days. Please be as generous as you can be to this year’s Good Friday Collection.

With Prayerful best wishes, may I remain, Faithfully in Christ, †Timothy Michael Cardinal Dolan Archbishop of New York

EASTER SPIRITUAL BOUQUET CARDS are available in the Narthex of the Church. They make a wonderful Easter remembrance for your family and friends. The outer envelope may be placed in the Sunday offering basket or they may also be dropped off at the Parish Office. All of your loved ones will be remembered at our Easter Masses and at all the Masses celebrated here in the parish throughout the Easter Season.

Holy Week is a sacred time in the life of the Catholic Church.

We begin this Holy Week on Palm Sunday, March 25th. We celebrate Our Lord’s triumphant entrance into Jerusalem. Jesus is welcomed by the crowds worshiping him and laying palm branches before Him.

On Holy Thursday our Lord shared the Last Supper with His Apostles. On this night Jesus gave us the Sacrament of the Most Holy Eucharist and the Sac-rament of Holy Orders. The Holy Priesthood in which we receive the Bread of Life- Jesus’ Body and Blood!

On Good Friday Jesus suffered and died for our sal-vation. He was crucified on Calvary, outside the gates of Jerusalem. “Behold the wood of the cross on which hung the savior of the world.”

He was buried the same day, and arose three days later, on Easter Sunday. The day we celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ from the Dead!

“So it is written that the Christ would suffer and on the third day rose from the dead.” Luke 24:46

I pray that this Holy Week will be a time of grace and mercy for the entire St. Joseph’s Parish Family

I hope that you can take advantage of the many Li-turgical Celebrations during this Holy Week.

Please see in the bulletin as well as our website our Holy Week schedule. Please note the change in the Mass times for Easter Sunday.

May God Bless you and your families with His Peace! Fr. Lagiovane

ST JOSEPH’S CEMETERY Now that the weather conditions are improving, we will begin our spring cleanup. Over the next few weeks our staff will begin clearing out any remaining holiday decorations as well attending to some ground areas that naturally need attention after the winter thaw. Thanks for your patience. Please remove any decorations you might want.

From the Desk of Fr. Lagiovane

Several people have inquired about the Cardinal’s Annual Appeal for this year 2018. We will begin in the next several weeks and months the “Renew and Rebuild Campaign” mandated by the Archdio-cese of New York. We have decided to have one Campaign which will include the Cardinal’s Annual Appeal rather than have two separate appeals. De-tails will follow in the months ahead. There will be a weekend set aside sometime in the upcoming months when I will speak at all the Masses about the Campaign. Stay tuned! ________________________________

Day of Recollection

Join us for Mass and a few hours of reflection and prayer . Details and sign up to follow. _______________________________ In Recent years many of our parishes have seen an increase in attendance for the Good Friday Service. Our Parish has seen the same. Please know that this year we will have four crosses available for the time of Veneration of the Cross. We will have the faith-ful come forward in the same fashion as we do for Holy Communion and venerate the Cross. There-fore, we will have four stations for the Veneration. This should help with the orderly flow of people coming forward. For those who cannot come for-ward we will come to you as we would for Holy Communion.

Governor Andrew Cuomo has released the details of his Executive Budget for 2018-2019. Included in his package of budget bills is a non-fiscal "women's agenda" bill that would expand late-term abortions. The bill would eliminate New York's ban on late-term abortions, empower non-doctors to perform abortions, and remove protections against unwanted abortions.

The enacted state budget requires three-way negotiation and must be finalized by April 1. Please let your State Senator know (by calling 518-455-2800 or visiting the Action Center at nyscatholic.org) that they must not allow the state budget to be used as a vehicle for making late-term abortions more available and legalizing in-fanticide. If you have time, please also contact Senate Majority Leader John Flanagan (518-455-2800), As-sembly Speaker Carl Heastie (518-455-4100), and Governor Andrew Cuomo (518-474-8390), the "three men in a room" who will be negotiating this.
