The Sacrament of Marriage is celebrated after a period of preparation of no less than six months. Registered parishioners who wish to marry at St. Joseph’s are invited to contact one of the priests during regular weekday office hours before making any other arrangements. The Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated, except during Lent, on the first and third Sundays of the month at 1:30pm. Please call the Parish Office to schedule an appointment with one of the priests. The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is available at any time to any Catholic over the age of reason who is seriously ill, preparing for surgery or suffering the effects of age. The priests of the parish regularly celebrate the Eucharist and administer the sacrament of the sick at the area nursing homes; lay ministers lead services and bring communion to the residents every Sunday.

O blessed Joseph, faithful guardian of my Redeemer, Jesus Christ, protector of thy chaste spouse, the virgin Mother of God, I choose thee this day to be my special patron and advo-cate and I firmly resolve to honor thee all the days of my life. Therefore I humbly beseech thee to receive me as thy client, to instruct me in every doubt, to comfort me in every affliction, to obtain for me and for all the knowledge and love of the Heart of Jesus, and finally to defend and protect me at the hour of my death. Amen

From the Desk of Fr. Lagiovane
Holy Week is a sacred time in the life of the Catholic Church.
We begin this Holy Week on Palm Sunday, March 20th. We celebrate Our Lord’s triumphant entrance into Jerusalem. Jesus is welcomed by the crowds worshiping him and laying palm branches before Him.
On Holy Thursday our Lord shared the Last Supper with His Apostles. On this night Jesus gave us the Sacra-ment of the Most Holy Eucharist and the Sacrament of Holy Orders. The Holy Priesthood in which we re-ceive the Bread of Life- Jesus’ Body and Blood!
On Good Friday Jesus suffered and died for our salvation. He was crucified on Calvary, outside the gates of Jerusalem. “Behold the wood of the cross on which hung the savior of the world.”
He was buried the same day, and arose three days later, on Easter Sunday. The day we celebrate the Resurrec-tion of Jesus Christ from the Dead!
“So it is written that the Christ would suffer and on the third day rise from the dead.” Luke 24:46
I pray that this Holy Week will be a time of grace and mercy for the entire St. Joseph’s Parish Family.
I hope that you can take advantage of the many Liturgical Celebrations during this Holy Week.
Please see in the bulletin as well as our website our Holy Week schedule. Please note the change in the Mass times for Easter Sunday.
May Christ Bless you and your families with His Peace! Fr. Lagiovane

What is “temporal punishment for sin”?
Even when our sins are forgiven, we still experience conse-quences of our sinful behavior. Over the course of our lifetime, we need to learn from our sins in order to change. Yet, we often remain attached to the attitudes and habits that led us to sin. Learning life lessons from our sins is not easy, and it takes time. It involves struggling with our ego and learning how to let go of our own pride and stubbornness. Sometimes that is a painful and punishing struggle. “It is not to be conceived as a kind of vengeance inflicted by God from without, but as follow-ing from the very nature of sin” (CCC# 1472). Rather, it is the “temporal”(time/space) implication of letting go of self and letting in God. An indulgence offers us the “remission of the temporal punishment for sin” if we are properly disposed. What this means, in plain English, is that we are open to God’s mercy, and consciously and physically place ourselves in the stance to accept God’s mercy, that struggle of “temporal pun-ishment“ can be overtaken by the overwhelming power of God’s merciful love toward us just as we are. We are then changed, not gradually, but by God’s hand immediately reach-ing into our lives. (Created by the Roman Catholic Diocese of Albany – www.rcda.org.
