Restoring Our Roots Capital Campaign

Church restoration funds on hand prior to Campaign Kickoff: $ 310,000 Donations received toward pledges: $1,054,103 Amount still owed toward pledges: $ 603,000

Campaign Total To-Date: $1,967,103

Please note the parish plans to sell the convent this spring and those funds added to the Capital Campaign. As such, it would appear we reached our original campaign goal. Thank you all for your generosity! In the renovation update be-low you will see additional, unforeseen renovation expenses have been uncovered and require an adjustment to the overall goal. Bids and scope of work are still being reviewed to provide a clearer picture of how much will be needed to complete the renovation.

Church Renovation Update: 1/24/2019

The steeple is finished and looks beautiful!

The roof and clerestory exterior siding replacement has been postponed until spring. The contractor (Missouri Builders Assn.) has agreed to resume activity in March.

Extreme Coatings and Insulation installed the attic insulation earlier this month and it was completed under budget. Schaefer Electric completed some initial electrical work in the attic prior to the install of insulation. They will continue work at various phases of the renovation. Please note the original electrical budget was set at $27,000 due to only partial upgrades. Safety and necessity required rewiring of the entire church, now budgeted at $62,000.

The Phase 1 and Phase 2 committees reviewed two proposed plans for installing a bathroom in the rear of church, at the location of the north confessional. The committees decided to go with adding two bathrooms. One will be a more spa-cious, ADA compliant bathroom and the other a much smaller, secondary bathroom. To help offset the cost of installing the bathrooms the parish is seeking help from carpenters, plumbers, electricians, drywall installers/plasterers/finishers, painters, flooring installers, and fixture installers. Demolition of the old confessional was completed this week and new construction will begin in the coming weeks. If interested, please contact Travis Rehagen at (573) 694-1315.

The Phase 1 and Phase 2 committees reviewed two proposed plans/bids for repairs to the stained-glass windows. The costs for these repairs were underestimated in the original budget ($120,000) due mostly to the unknown state of disrepair of the clerestory windows. We now understand the repairs will cost anywhere from $270,000 to $380,000. The cost vari-ances are mostly attributable to the type of repairs needed, long-term versus short-term, as well as final appearance of the finished product. We plan to select a vendor in the coming weeks and expect repairs to begin this spring.

The Phase 2 Committee is currently reviewing interior paint contractors, bids and options. We currently have two bids and expect a third bid soon. No decisions have been made on interior painting.

The parish is also reviewing bids, options, and seeking vendor input for pews, flooring, interior lighting, doors, enhance-ments to the balcony and steps, and other miscellaneous items.

Town Hall Notes: 1/24/2019 A Town Hall meeting was held 1/24/19 at 6:00 p.m. in the St. Joseph School cafeteria.

Father Viviano opened the meeting with a prayer. He then explained the general contractor, Sircal, had fulfilled their com-mitment to get the project started. Sircal played a key role in determining the original project scope and budget. They also assisted with vendor selection for steeple/roof repair and attic clean-out. Father added we are now in a more comfort-able stage in the renovation to allow him and various committees to take on more of the general contractor role, thereby saving the parish money.

A detailed update on the church renovation was provided to parishioners and they were given opportunities to ask ques-tions (see below).

Q: Does the renovation work/repairs come with any type of warranty?

A: Yes, most of the materials and repairs have a 10-year warranty. Q: Will the exterior wood window trim require painting?

A: Yes. The exterior window trim will require painting every 15-25 years. This is true with or without storm windows. It was noted the church bell louvres and steeple dormers will also require periodic painting due to their wood structure.

Q: Once repaired, will the windows open?

A: This is yet to be determined.

Q: When scaffolding is installed in the church for painting and window repairs will Mass continue to be said in church?

A: It depends on the type of scaffolding. One of the painting contractors indicated they can use scaffolding that will al-low Masses to continue. But there has been no painting contractor selected yet. As such, this is yet to be determined.

Q: How much money has been collected toward pledges?

A: The amount of funds collected for the capital campaign is listed at the beginning of this sheet. Please note that of all pledges and donations received, approximately $603,000 is still owed toward pledges. Parishioners have three years to fulfill their campaign commitment. Letters will be sent to parish families at some point (late spring/early summer) with updates on their donations toward pledges.
