“St. Francis of Assisi Parish is a Catholic Community acknowledging the workings of the Spirit in our midst as we reach out to all through
Eucharist, Prayer, Education and Worship.
Our call to faith is inspired by our namesake, St. Francis of Assisi, who challenges us to live and
celebrate love and forgiveness, always mindful that service to God is service to others.
We regard our Parish Community as Family. We seek to facilitate the development of a cooperative spirit and to assist each other in facing the joys and
sorrows of everyday life.
Committed to the teachings of Jesus Christ, we join other faith communities in fulfilling

Summer is done already! School opens up this
week and our students will bring their joyful
presence back into the Campus.
We’re welcoming into our community Ms.
Suzanne Hickey, who will be serving as our new
School Principal. She comes to us from the
Salem Public Schools, where she’s been an
administrator. She’s a terrific person and we
should all be praying that she has great success
here at St. Joseph. It’s been a rough ending of the
summer for her, as right after she accepted the
position, she was hit by a van while jogging! I’m
going to learn a lesson from that…never go for a
jog.
Mr. Devaney will still be an important part of the
transition, as he will remain part-time as a
consultant, helping Ms. Hickey step into a new
role. Mr. Devaney has been just great as we went
through the selection process for such an
important position.
We’re building a team for our collaborative that
we hope will help us create something that will
last for the generations to come.
So if you’ve been away this summer, welcome
back! We’ve missed you!
There are more good things coming. Get ready
for LifeTeen to begin at the end of the month.
Give us a shot, I think you’ll like it.

Disciples in Mission
In his letter today Saint James reminds us, “Humbly welcome the word that has been planted in you and is able to save your souls. Be doers of the word and not hearers only, deluding yourselves” Each week we come together to be nourished by God’s word in Scripture and the Word, Jesus Christ in the Eucharist. What difference does it make in our lives?
Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) and Adult Confirmation/
Formation
Have you ever thought about becoming a Roman Catholic? If the answer is yes, or even if it is maybe, please let us know.
Never completed all of your Sacraments of Initiation (Baptism, Confirmation and First Eucharist) and wish you had done so? Especially since you now want to be a godparent! Preparation for both of these processes have begun – it is not too late for you to join us.
Please let us know if you are interested in discussing your participation or if you just have some questions.
Please see Deacon Bob after Mass or contact him

Dear Parishioners,
My name is Mike McDuffee and I am the new assistant youth minister here in the Medford collaborative. I wanted to take this opportunity to share some very exciting news with you as well as ask for your help.
On September 27th, we will be launching Life Teen here in Medford. We will begin by instituting a new Life Teen mass at St. Francis at 5pm each Sunday. While we encourage anyone to attend, this mass will have music and preaching focused on helping our young people to enter into the beauty and joy of holy mass. Immediately after mass, we will begin our Life Nights. These are opportunities for the teens to enter into a faith community of peers as well as grow deeper in their own personal faith journeys through games, teachings and discussions. Over its 30 years of operation, Life Teen has changed people’s lives all over the world. It is truly an amazing program and we are blessed to have it here in Medford. It is both my prayer and my sincere belief that we will see amazing things happening here in the next few years.
However, we can’t do it alone. We need your help. So far, we have received many beautiful and generous donations. We would like to thank the parishioners who helped us get our projector and projector stand, our furniture and our television. These items are essential to making our Life Nights a success. Thank you!!
We are still in need of many things for both the Life Nights as well as the Life Teen mass. Eventually we will need new sound equipment for mass and for our Life Teen space in the auditorium, microphones, stands, a drum set and many other things. If you have any of these items that you would like to donate or feel called to help us buy them, or if you just have some questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Also, we are still in need of CORE Team members. These are the great people who help us actually run the Life Nights. That may sound scary or uncomfortable to you but please take the time to prayerfully consider if God is calling you to this ministry. Again, please contact us with any questions.
Lastly, and most importantly, please keep this ministry in your prayers regularly. In the end, only God has the ability to make this successful. He has the power to really change people’s lives. In order for Life Teen to work, we, as a parish community, need to support it with our prayers.
Thank you for all that you have done and all that you continue to do!!!
In Christ, Doreen and Mike
