Prayer Unites in the Midst of Tragedy Over the past few days we have seen so many messages across the faith communities condemning the events in the Church of Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray in the suburb of Rouen in France. A common theme runs through these messages, a desire for an end to the violence and a call to pray for those who, like Fr Jacques Hamel, have died or been injured as a result of violence. As we pray we remember all who have been affected by the terrorist attacks we have witnessed these past weeks and months in so many areas of our world. There will be a simple Service of the Word centred on the theme of Reconciliation at St Patrick’s Church in Bolton on Friday evening, 29th July, at 7 pm. The service will be led by Mgr. John Dale. I noticed on the BBC News Website that Fr Jacques recently wrote in the Parish Newsletter, encouraging parishioners to spend time with friends and family and to look out for those who are alone. “Be considerate of others, whoever they are” he wrote. A simple call to focus on and care for our neighbour, something which should always be at the centre of our prayers.
