Our Thursday morning for mom group is looking for a few (more) grandfriends! We already have 10 very devoted and

dedicated parishioners from St. Cecilia and Sacred Heart who help care for children, so that their mothers can grow closer to

Our Lord through Scripture study and prayer. Our group is gaining a few more moms/children for the fall so we could

use some more help. If you remember what it was like to try and have a prayer life with small children, and know how important it is to allow moms to have time for spiritual re-newal, please consider joining us! We meet from 9:30-11am

Thursdays. All grandfriends must complete background check and protecting God's children training. Please contact Jennifer Nelson, group coordinator, for more information.

Choir Rehearsals Resume Once again, the summer has passed by in a rush and is ending in the blink of an eye. When you are planning your fall schedule and family activities, I hope you will remem-

ber and consider the St. Cecilia Music Ministry! You do not have to be able to read music to join! We teach you what you need to sing. We have two choirs that meet each week and re-hearse for weekend Liturgies and Feast days. Both choirs re-hearsal nights have switched from Tuesday to Thursday eve-nings. Our Children's Choir will resume rehearsals and meet each week starting on Thursday night, September 24th, from 6pm til 6:45pm. The Children will be singing once a month, as well as for Thanksgiving morning, and Christmas eve Liturgies. This year, the children will also be incorporating children's hand-bells into the Liturgies that they sing for. A rehearsal and mass schedule will be given out at the first rehearsal. To register, just show up! The Adult Choir will resume rehearsals and meet each week starting on Thursday night, September 10th, from 7pm til 8:30pm. They will sing for the 10:45am Liturgy each Sunday, as well as Feast Days, and special occasions such as Confirma-tions, and our yearly Christmas Concert. The Adult Choir is joined each week by our lovely Cantor, Jennifer Zimmerman. A rehearsal and mass schedule will be given out at the first re-hearsal. All voice parts are welcomed, however, we are in need of Basses and Tenors! Please help if you think you can sing and have the time to dedicate to rehearsals. Our contemporary group sings each Sunday for the 9:15am Liturgy, and incorporates guitars, keyboard, flute, clarinet, background singers, with our leader of song, Maura Daniel. For more information about this group or the others listed above, please find out flyer in the vestibule of the church, or contact our Director of Music, Paul Daher, at 201-390-1678. Thanks in advance for lending your gift of singing with the St. Cecilia Choir. God bless you!

580-St. Cecilia

My dear parishioners, We mark the 22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time as we gather to celebrate the Lord’s Day. For the next few Sundays we shall hear portions of the Letter of James proclaimed to us in our Eucharistic assembly. Today we hear the words,

“All good giving and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no alteration or shadow caused by change. He willed to give us birth by the word of truth that we may be a kind of first fruits of his creatures.” The Apostle is reminding his readers of the generosity of God who continually endows His people with blessings and graces which enlighten their lives and scatters darkness. We are the beneficiaries of these blessings because God is light. The Lord Jesus said, “I am the light of the world…” (John 8:12). Yes, generosity brightens the world, generosity sets darkness to flight. I am delighted by the generosity the parishioners of Sacred Heart and Saint Cecilia Churches demonstrated last weekend at the pin sale which was conducted to help the Christians of the Middle East who are being persecuted for their faith. A minimum do-nation of $3 was asked for the pin which depicted a crown of thorns and is an original artwork done by Suzanne Apicella, a pa-rishioner of Sacred Heart Church. Also included was the prayer Bishop Serratelli has asked us to pray during the month of August along with a brief description of how the Christians are being mistreated because of their faith in Christ our Savior. Members of the family Rosary Group came up with the idea of the sale and manned the table where the pins were sold. They told me of the generosity of our people and their enthusiastic support by donating more money than what was being suggested. We sold nearly all of the 500 pins which were prepared. The donations received will be given to the following Catholic agencies which will directly benefit the Christians caught in the dangers of ISIS, namely: Catholic Near East Welfare Association; Caritas International, and the Knights of Columbus special fund for the Middle East. While Islamic terrorists are bringing the darkness of which evil is associated, the generosity of Christians is enlightening the world with compassion and love. Speaking of generosity, I would like to express my sincere thanks to those who have made a monetary contribution to the reno-vation of the “children’s room” located in the parish office basement. The renovation work is an Eagle Scout Project completed by Michael Morena. Supplies and improvements were made possible due to the generosity of the following: Tanya Nellen, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Young, Mr and Mrs. Philip Wasacz, Deacon and Mrs. Paul Willson, Mr. and Mrs. Jason Kling, Mr. and Mrs. John Spear, Mr. and Mrs. David Sproul, Knights of Columbus Council 3359, the St. Cecilia Men’s Society, the St. Monica Guild and the St. Cecilia Rosary Society. The room will be blessed and dedicated in the beginning of October (date will be an-nounced). Lastly, I express my gratitude to John Sullivan and Ron Gatzke who worked especially hard around our parish property this past week. Their generosity of time and labor is a great gift to our parish and I pray that the” Father of lights” will shower His bless-ings upon them. I remind you of how important your generosity is for the welfare of our parish, Your generous Sunday offerings are what allows us to pay our bills and do the good work which the Lord calls us to perform in His Name. PLEASE BE GENEROUS IN YOUR SUNDAY OFFERINGS – PLEASE CONSIDER INCREASING YOUR SUNDAY OFFERINGS TO THE LORD WHICH SAINT JAMES REMINDS US TODAY THAT ‘…WE MAY BE A KIND OF FIRST FRUITS OF HIS CREATURES.’ God bless you! Father Zig

ST. ROSALIA, daughter or Sinibald, Lord of Roses and Quisquina, was a descendant of the great Charlemagne. She was born at Palermo in Sicily. In her youth, her heart turned from earthly vanities to God. She left her home and took up her abode in a cave, on the walls of which she wrote these words: “I, Rosalia, daughter of Sinibald, Lord of Roses, and Quisquina, have taken the resolution to live in this cave for the love of my Lord, Jesus Christ.” she re-mained there entirely hidden from the world. Rosalia practiced great mortifications and lied in constant communion with God. Afterward she transferred her abode to Mount Pellegrino, about three miles from Palermo, in order to triumph entirely over the instincts of flesh and blood, in sight of here paternal home. She is said to have appeared after death and to have revealed that she spent several years in a little excavation near the grotto. She died alone, in 1160, ending her strange and wonderful life unknown to the world. Her body was discovered in 1625, during the pontificate of Pope Urban VIII. PRAYER: Lord God, You showered heavenly gifts on St. Rosalia, Your Virgin. Help us to imitate her virtues during our earthly life and enjoy eternal happiness with her in heaven.
