ATTENTION MEN – A new men’s group called FATHERS
OF ST. JOSEPH will be meeting every other Saturday morn-
ing at 5:30 a.m. in the St. Cecilia Office Building. The sole
aim and purpose of the group is to labor for the restoration,
revitalization and redemption of human fatherhood, in order
that it may become what it has been created to be: an effica-
cious icon that directs the human family to its Father. The
Fathers of St. Joseph gatherings are not so much meetings as
they are mini retreats, whose aim is to communicate the spiri-
tuality of fatherhood in a manner that encourages and inspires
fathers to embrace, engage and – by the power of the Holy
Spirit – sanctify their vocation. The next gathering is SAT-
URDAY, March 24!

STATIONS OF THE CROSS – One of the features of the
Lenten season is the praying of the Stations of the Cross
which is done very Friday in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church
and Saint Cecilia Church. The Stations begin on Friday, Feb-
ruary 16th. Stations at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church will take
place every Friday evening during Lent at 7 o’clock. On
March 2nd, due to First Friday devotions, Stations will begin
at 6 o’clock. Stations at Saint Cecilia Church will also take
place every Friday evening during Lent but will begin at 7:30.
The Stations of the Cross are also prayed every Friday fol-
lowing the 8 o’clock morning Mass.
RICE BOWL ALMS PROGRAM: Fifth Sunday of Lent
For Alefa and her family in Malawi, who we encounter
through CRS Rice Bowl, that the seeds she plants today may
also sprout hope and grow opportunity.
We pray to the Lord…
For those worldwide who are forced to flee their homes for
safety or better opportunities.
We pray to the Lord...
SAINT JOSEPH NOVENA – The novena for the Solemnity
of Saint Joseph will take place at Saint Cecilia Church follow-
ing the 8 o’clock Holy Mass beginning on Sunday, March
11th. The novena concludes on Monday, March 19th. Follow-
ing the 8 o’clock Holy Mass the traditional Saint Joseph Table
will be blessed in Hayes Hall. Coffee and St. Joseph pastry
will be served.
DID YOU TAKE A RICE BOWL? – There are still plenty of
rice bowls located in the baskets at the church entrance. Every
household should take a rice bowl and place it on their table as
a reminder during Lent of the fasting and abstinence we should
be undergoing during this holy season. The money we are sav-
ing by denying ourselves of the snacks, etc of what we are giv-
ing up should then be placed in the rice bowl. The rice bowls
should be brought to church at Easter, not before. Lent con-
cludes at Easter and therefore our alms should be practiced up
to the Feast of our Lord’s Holy Resurrection! (75% of the
alms collected helps feed the poor internationally, 25% of the
alms remains in the Diocese of Paterson for food distribution.)
LENTEN PENANCE SERVICE – The final celebration of
the sacrament of penance will take place on Wednesday eve-
ning of Holy Week, March 28th at 7 o’clock in Saint Cecilia
Church. Eight priests will be present to hear confessions for
both adults and children. Please mark the date and plan to go
to confession before the celebration of Easter.
2018-2019 Registration
K-10th Grade Traditional CCD &
Generations of Faith
Registration for all religious education classes will open on Sunday, March 25th after each of the morn-ing masses in Hayes Hall. Registration forms will soon be available on the parish website. Students that are in non-sacramental year classes will have the option to attend the Generations of Faith program in place of the traditional CCD classes. 2nd, 9th, and 10th grade students will still need to be enrolled in the traditional program. Generations of Faith is a once per month program that will meet on a Friday night. This program is de-signed for the entire family; babies to retired seniors are welcome to register. There is no drop off service, so children will need to be accompanied by one or both parents. The program will include family prayer, family activities, and small break out groups. Registrations will be taken at the same time as tradi-tional CCD registrations. No registrations will be taken before March 25th. If you have any questions about registration for next year, please contact Jim Clancy at 973-627-0310 ext 17 or at [email protected].
The Holy Shroud of Turin was called the greatest relic in
Christendom by Pope John Paul II. In fact, the Shroud is the
most studied scientific object in the entire world. Fr. Peffley
presents new and detailed scientific and medical evidence for
the authenticity of the Holy Shroud. This presentation brings
greater clarity as to the depth of the agony of our Lord's sor-
rowful Passion, which he voluntarily took on for love of us.

580-St. Cecilia
St. Cyril was born in the vicinity of Jerusalem about the year 315. Having made great progress in the knowledge of the pagan philosophers and the Fathers of the Church, but above all in the Sacred Scriptures, he was ordained priest about the year 345 by Maximus, Bishop of Jerusalem.
About the end of the year 350 he succeeded Maximus in the Sea of Jerusalem. St. Cyril entered upon his episcopal office at a time when the Church was distracted by the Arian heresy. A difference arose between him and Acacius, the Arian Bishop of Caesarea, who claimed jurisdiction over the Church of Jerusalem, a claim to which St. Cyril did not submit. He was forced to take refuge at Tarsus for a time. At the death of Constantius and the accession of Julian, he was restored to his See.
St. Cyril was once more driven from his See in 367 by the Arian Emperor Valens, but he returned to it in 378 at the accession of Gratian. In 381 he assisted at the General Council of Constantinople and formally accepted the full Nicene Creed. He died in the year 386.
PRAYER God, through St. Cyril You miraculously unified Your Church that she might more fully grasp the mysteries of salva-tion. Through his intercession help us to acknowledge Your Son and so obtain more abundant life. Amen.

ST. CYRIL OF JERUSALEM, Bishop and Doctor of the Church
My dear parishioners, Today we observe the Fifth Sunday of Lent as we gather to celebrate the Lord's Day. As you notice, the images and crosses in the church are veiled in purple as we enter into the final days of Lent. According to the Third Edition of the Roman Missal we find, "In the dioceses of the United States, the practice of covering crosses and images throughout the church from the Fifth Sunday of Lent may be observed. Crosses remain covered until the end of the celebration of the Lord's Passion on Good Friday, but images remain covered until the beginning of the Easter Vigil." This practice may not be done in all Catholic parishes because the practice is optional. The covering of im-ages in the church is centuries old and conveys the sorrow of the Lord's upcoming Passion. Sorrow for the suffering the Lord experienced is the theme in today's epistle reading from the Letter to the He-brews. This suffering Jesus endured out of obedience to God the Father. Jesus embraced His suffering knowing that it would bring about redemption and salvation for all who hope in Him. Love gave Him the strength to go through the horror of the cross, a love which is genuine. As we focus on the Passion of Christ it gives us pause to look within ourselves to see if our love for Christ is genu-ine and if we are obedient in suffering as was the Lord. So Many times we show that we are unwilling to sacrifice for our faith. We look for the easy way out, avoid any commitment, and remain indifferent to the demands of disci-pleship. Unlike Christ, obedience is something so many of us lack in our spiritual life. The only thing we want to be obedient to is our own selfishness and our own desires. The concluding days of this holy season of Lent summon us to reconsider our reluctance for obedience to God. Our obedience is a sign of love. With love comes sacrifice, it's unavoidable but it makes love genuine. Once again, I am inviting YOU to join with me in keeping these Lenten days by praying, fasting and giving alms. These acts re-quire obedience, they are done with sacrifice and they are the fruits of genuine love. Next week we commemorate Holy Week, the most solemn week of the year. Our attendance at the liturgies commemorating the Passion, Death and Resurrection of Our Lord Jesus Christ will be made possible because of love. Your love for Christ will be shown in your presence at church. Will you be obedient to Christ or to the dark forces which exist in the world? God bless You! Father Zig
