*********************************************************** RELIGIOUS EDUCATION NEWS

Just a reminder that Religious Education Classes resume this Sunday, January 7th. See you all there!

TAKING IT DOWN????? Can you believe this? We JUST put everything up and now it must come down! We could use help after the 11:30AM Mass THIS Sun-

day, January 7th to UN-decorate the church. Thanks to anyone who can give some time,

CALENDARS AVAILABLE Church calendars for 2018 are available at every entrance of the church. One per family, please, until we’re sure everyone has taken theirs.

ATTENTION LECTORS The workbooks for the 2018 church year are now available in the sacristy for all lectors. Please make sure you get your copy! These books help in pre-paring you for your scheduled time to read at Mass, especially with pronunciations of difficult words.

ALTAR SERVERS Any child who served Mass over the past year is invited to pick up a gift from Father Lou in the sac-risty. Thank you for serving your parish community & family.

Scholarship Applicants Any student who is interested in applying for our scholarship can pick up a copy in the office. These scholarships are awarded in the spring so if inter-ested, don’t delay. *********************************************************

SINCERE THANKS Although I sent personal notes to everyone, (I HOPE) I wanted to say a general thank you for every-one’s kindness over the Christ-mas holiday. You are far too gen-erous to me. While I appreciate your thoughtfulness, none of that is necessary. I love being involved in this parish and there are others who do far more than I. God bless you ALL in the New Year. Please pray for our little church. We are such a special group of people, a family. To the members of the Folk Group, to whom I did not send individual notes, thank you for a most wonderful gift and mostly, your friendship. Love, Jennifer

MEN’S RETREAT The time is now to sign up for the Men’s Retreat on Feb. 2nd—Feb. 4th, 2018. Let’s consider a new beginning or a rebuilding of our relationship with our Lord and God. Please consider taking time from your schedule to experience some personal time and bonding with God. By attending the re-treat, each attendee experiences a different yet crucial way of becoming closer with God. Car pool-ing is available if it is needed. If you have any questions, please contact Jim Barcaskey (724-457-7764) or Deacon Bob Bittner (724-378-0903). Perhaps you would be more comfortable in bring-ing a friend or relative with whom you may share the weekend and the experience. A Family Perspective…………..by Bud Ozar The Magi in today’s gospel were led to Jesus by a star. Who are the stars your children follow? Don’t let it be the tabloid stars. Resolve in this New Year to be the guiding star in the life of your children.

The Epiphany of the Lord January 7, 2018

“After being warned in a dream, they departed for their own country by another way.”

Now that is it finally, and STILL Christmas (it is the Feast of the Epiphany, liturgically this year on January 7), I am opening all the cards and gifts that I have re-ceived throughout December. As I open each one, I say a prayer of Thanksgiving for the kindness of all those people who remember and are so good to me by reaching out at this time of year. In return, my three Christmas Masses were said for your intentions. In addition I also offer Mass for you all when I pick a random weekday in July every year to celebrate my private Christmas at a Mass. (Yes, I use the readings, prayers, and sing Christmas carols in the middle of the summer. If I ever become Pope, I will switch the liturgical celebration for everyone to July!) Even if you don't receive a Christmas card from me, know the fol-lowing sentiments are in my heart as I write this and thank God for you all.

Christmas Cards I have a list of folks I know, all written in a book, And every year when Christmas comes, I go and take a look, And that is when I realize that these names are a part, Not of the book they're written in, but of my very heart. For each name stands for someone who has crossed my path sometime, And in that meeting they've become the rhythm in each rhyme... And while it sounds fantastic for me to make this claim, I really feel that I'm composed of each Remembered Name. And while you may not be aware of any "special link", Just meeting you has changed my life a lot more than you think. For once I've met somebody, the years cannot erase, The memory of a pleasant word or of a friendly face. So never think my Christmas cards are just a mere routine Of names upon a Christmas list, forgotten in between, For when I send a Christmas card that is addressed to you,

I think of how you've blessed my life and I'm in-debted, too. For I am but the total of the many folks I've met, And you happen to be one of those I prefer not to forget. And whether I have known you for many years or few, In some way you have had a part in shaping things I do. And every year when Christmas comes, I realize anew, The best gift life can offer in meeting folks like you. And may the love of God that forever endures, Leave its richest blessings in the hearts of You and Yours.

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and God bless us one and all!

Marriage Moments………...by Susan Vogt We mark time with watches and calendars. As we start a new year, however, perhaps it would be meaningful today, to enter into a conscious NOW with your beloved. As you read this, pause, find your beloved, and look at each other tenderly. Ponder the goodness of being together. Embrace.
