My Dear Parishioners,

Every weekend here at Saint Bede Par-ish seems to be special, and this one is no exception. Today we welcome to our Sunday celebration and to the reception of the Holy Eucharist the many children whose names are listed on page 5 of today's bulletin, and who yesterday received their First Holy

Communion. May the joy of that day continue and only deepen as their lives continue, united with Jesus Christ! This weekend is also the last one we will have with Deacon Daniel Arechabala. His deacon internship at Saint Bede's con-cludes today, after which he returns to Saint Charles Seminary for retreat and final preparations for his Ordination, which will take place on Saturday May 16 at the Cathedral Basilica, and for his First Mass at his home parish of Mother of Divine Provi-dence in King of Prussia on Sunday May 17. Both events are open to the public, and Father Loomis and I will be concelebrat-ing with "Father Daniel." We thank Deacon Dan for his inspiring homilies and for his assistance and presence at so many of our parish activities. On a personal note, I have enjoyed his eagerness to learn, his zeal for the priesthood, and his friendship. He will be a wonderful priest of the Archdiocese. Deacon Dan will return on Sunday June 7 to celebrate a First Mass with all of us and to give us an oppor-tunity not only to congratulate him, but also to receive his first Priestly Blessing. Since the beginning of Lent and into the Easter Season, our daily Masses have been celebrated in our main church. Mean-while, further improvements and beautifications have been go-ing on in our lower chapel. A first-ever tabernacle has been installed in a decorative niche, so that daily Mass goers can pray before the Blessed Sacrament. Also, carpenter John Boccella and parishioner Bob Scanlan created a beautiful pediment, framing the altar space, and added indirect lighting to enhance the look of our statues. Parishioner Ed Rogowski volunteered his time to produce the faux-painting on these additions, which will match the alabaster - marbleized look of our altar. John Eccleston from Richboro Contractors did the design. Monday April 27, daily Masses will resume in the lower chapel. When you get a chance, stop down and see the chapel. Remember, this space houses some of the liturgical items that were formerly in Saint Bede Church, including the original large crucifix, statues and stations of the cross. The eventual placement of stained glass windows in this chapel is still in the design stage. Further information will come. May God Bless You,

Scripture Readings Fifth Sunday of Easter May 3, 2015 Acts 9: 26-31 Psalm 22 1 John 3: 18-24 John 15: 1-8 All of the above readings fit together quite well. In the gospel, we hear Jesus proclaim that He is the vine and we are the branches; if we remain in Him we will bear much fruit. Our first reading from the Acts of the Apostles describes how Saint Paul, newly grafted onto the vine, is beginning to bear fruit. And the second reading tells us how to remain on the vine: believe in the name of Jesus Christ and love one another. Let us listen for these messages in God’s Holy Word.

Remember The Deceased Nicholas Lombardo, Jeffrey Romani, Mabel Coyle

We are united in prayer with their families and with one another as we and all the faithful departed await our rising with the Lord.

Last Wednesday evening, Monsignor Marine, our pastor, accompanied by several parishioners, received official proclamations from Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick, Governor Tom Wolf, State Senator Robert Tomlinson, State Representative Scott Petri, Bucks County officials and the entire Northampton Board of Supervisors. It was a beautiful evening which paid tribute to the very pivotal role that our parish plays for the spiritual well-being of many of our citizens. We thank Supervisor George Komelasky, a parishioner, who orchestrated the event, held at the beginning of the Board of Supervisors meeting. You can view the event on the local cable channel. Spring is in the air, and our students are hard at work as we quickly approach the end of another school year. This past month, many of our sixth, seventh, and eighth grad-ers participated in the annual Reading Olym-pics for Bucks County. Our students spend months reading a wide variety of books. In preparation for this competition, they work on story compre-hension and recall. As a team they answer a variety of ques-tions, earning points as they move through three rounds. Rest assured our SKD teams were very successful, earning 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place ribbons. As always, we are proud of our students and their accomplishments. Many thanks to our teacher mod-erators, Mrs. Banas, Mrs. Curran, and Mrs. Dorneman, who worked hard in preparing our students for this celebration of reading! Please continue to pray for us as we enter the final months of our school year, and please be assured of our continued prayers for you. As we enjoy this beautiful spring weather, may we begin each day with enthusiasm becoming ever more aware of Jesus’ presence in our lives.

Catholic Home Missions Collection May 2, 3

The Catholic Home Missions Appeal supports dioceses in the United States and its territories that lack the resources to provide basic pastoral ministry to their populations. Through annual grants, Catholic Home Missions funds catechesis, seminarian education, lay ministry training, Hispanic ministry, and other pastoral programs for dioceses in need. As a result of parishioners' generosity, Catholic Home Missions impacts the lives of nearly nine million Catholics. The dioceses funded by the appeal comprise nearly 45 percent of all US dioceses. With a grant from Catholic Home Missions, the diocese is training seven seminarians for the priesthood. These young men will return to their diocese in order to administer the sacra-ments within the parishes and to evangelize those who have fallen away and are waiting to be called back into the fold. Mission dioceses often struggle with high rates of poverty and a lack of educated pastoral and lay leadership. With your support, the Catholic Home Missions Appeal can continue to provide catechesis, lay leadership training, funding for seminar-ian education, and other essential pastoral outreach in home mission dioceses. Please be generous in the Catholic Home Missions Appeal and help strengthen the Church at home. Your support will truly make a difference.

Lower Chapel Gets an Upgrade

Parishioner Ed Rogowski puts the finishing touches on the new faux-marble pillars which will surround the altar in our daily Mass chapel. The marble highlights will match the smaller pillars on the altar and pedestals for the statues of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Saint Joseph.
