Stewardship Reflection: 15th Sunday in Ordinary Time “Jesus said to him, ‘Go and do likewise.’” (Luke 10:37) This was Jesus’ command at the end of the Good Samaritan story. Did you know that the Samaritans and Jews despised each other. The moral of the story is to love our neighbor. That means loving someone you may not know or someone that looks different than you or someone that you don’t like. All without expecting anything in return.

Eucharistic Adoration on Mondays St. Aloysius is blessed to have Eucharistic Adoration on Mondays from 12:30 pm until 7:30 pm. We encourage all parishioners to take advantage of the graces Jesus offers to us in this wonderful sacrament. Please add your name to the Eucharistic Adoration sign-up sheet in the vestibule of the church, right next to the candles. Our hope is that the Blessed Sacrament will never be left unattended. So please, we encourage all those who attend regularly, and to those planning on attending, to please sign-up ahead of time so that we may know that there will always be someone accompanying Jesus in the Most Blessed Sacrament. It is the practice of the church that always one person should be present while the Blessed Sacrament is exposed for adoration. Please know that if we are not able to have full coverage on Mondays we will no longer be able to offer adoration for such an extended period of time. We thank you all for your cooperation.

Bulletin Quote ~ If you do not know your own dignity and condition, you cannot value anything at its proper worth. - St. Bonaventure (1221- 1274), Patron saint of bowel disorders, Feast Day July 15

Dear Parishioners, All religious have a code of laws. Todays readings - especially the reading from Deuteronomy - shows the importance of listening to the voice of God in those commandments and prescriptions. The readings center around the commandment to love God and neighbor. The first part may not always be easy to do but easy to understand - to love God. The second part presents a problem - who is my neighbor? In the Gospel account Jesus answers that question for us through the parable of the Good Samaritan. Many times in our life we respond to situations by saying, “It’s not my problem”. The response of the Samaritan is what we all strive for as followers of Christ. The text of the hymns for today - especially the Communion hymn (The Cry of the Poor) and the recessional (The Spirit sends us Forth) urges us to love God by loving our neighbor. Special Note: If you have signed up for our online giving program, and you sll receive envelopes, please contact our office as soon as possible. We need to remove your names from our envelope lisng. It will be a cost savings for St. Aloysius Parish. Thank you.

Question: Are aluminum soda cans or plastic bottles better for the environment?

Per Josh Ocampo’s May 15, 2019 article on the internet, the production of original plastic bottles and aluminum cans each

require the use of natural resources; which when extracted can cause damage to the environment.

Plastic bottles are normally downcycled into fibers, rather than re-made into bottles. Cans can easily be recycled back into cans. “According to Auminum.org, nearly 75% of aluminum ever produced is still in use to this day.”

“While there is no real clear answer, you could argue that cans are the winner simply because they can be repurposed over and over again and are considered infinitely recyclable.”

Images of O.L. of Guadalupe and Juan Diego You may have noticed the two new Images of Our Lady of Guadalupe and Juan Diego over the main doors of the church. These Images come to us directly from the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico, where the apparition of Our Lady of Guadalupe took place to Juan Diego, a native Mexican. As part of a procession with torches, the two portraits are brought on a journey through every city in Mexico. In this procession, family members of Mexican people carry the same torch that will reach American soil and will be touched by relatives who reside in the New York area. This procession began in September and ended on December 12th, the Feast Day of Our Lady of Guadalupe, patron saint of Mexico and all the Americas, one of the biggest places for conversion of people to the Catholic Faith. The two images where donated to our community, since this parish had the greatest number of participants for the celebration on December 12th. We encourage you to take a moment to appreciate these beautiful portraits, that have such rich history and meaning.

St. Aloysius Book Club - Meets on Thursdays at 7 pm on the first floor of the Parish Center. The book selections: July 25th: “Where the Crawdads Sing” by Delia Owens Aug 29th: “Little Fires Everywhere” by Celeste Ng. As always, Happy Reading. All are invited for good conversation & good company.

St. Aloysius Vacation Bible Camp! This year’s St. Aloysius Vacation Bible Camp – “Roar: Life is Wild ~ God is Good!” – was AWESOME! The children had an exciting, faith-filled, God-centered Catholic Vacation Bible Camp experience. Every day was packed with fun activities designed to help kids recognize God’s goodness in our lives. The five themes, introduced each day, were:

When life is unfair… God is good!

When life is scary… God is good!

When life changes… God is good!

When life is sad… God is good!

When life is good… God is good!

The children really enjoyed these themes as they were incorporated into interesting bible stories, creative crafts, faith-centered science projects, songs, gym activities and even the snacks! We collected school supplies for needy children in surrounding poorer communities. The campers learned that just as God is good to us, we must be good to others. At the end of each day, parents joined us in the gym to watch that day’s themed music video featuring the children and hear the children sing and dance to the songs they learned. Each child received a ROAR Songs CD, a ROAR T-shirt, ROAR Bible Buddies, a pouch, a framed picture of themselves on their ROAR adventure and themed snacks each day! After the session on Thursday, staff, volunteers, campers and family members celebrated the camp experience with a picnic of tasty grilled hot dogs, delicious desserts, and ROAR music. Thank you to all who brought in desserts and assisted with the celebration and cleanup!

For our final camp activity, the campers sang three of the ROAR songs at 9:00 am Mass on Sunday, June 30th. It was great to share what we learned with our community! Many THANKS to our generous parishioners who donated supplies and gift cards that helped make this week such a great success!

Finally, a heartfelt THANK YOU goes out to all the fantastic activity leaders and aides, group leaders and aides, youth aides, medical personnel, the St. Aloysius parish staff, the Trinity Academy maintenance staff, our Pastor, Msgr. Emery, along with Fr. JJ, Fr. Jose and Fr. Tom who joined us throughout the week, and all our volunteers and donors who made ROAR possible and successful. We MUST also extend a special and huge THANK YOU to Lynda Vincenti and Marianne Autorino for their dedication and countless hours of hard work planning and leading our VBC. Thank you all for being great examples to the children and the parish community by answering Christ’s call to evangelize through the way you live and share your faith every day, remembering that when life is wild, GOD IS GOOD! Have a joy-filled summer listening to the VBC Songs (ask a VBC Camper to sing one for you)! See you in church.
