Becoming Catholic

Are you or someone you know thinking about becoming Catholic? The

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults was established by the Church to

direct non-Catholics with proper catechesis and spiritual direction. Any

adult, age 18 or older, who has never been baptized, baptized in anoth-

er denomination or has been baptized Catholic and has never received

Confirmation or First Communion can enter the Catholic Church

through the RCIA. Anyone interested should contact Deacon Ed at 440-

234-6830 ext. 227 or at [email protected]

Dear Parishioners,

A bit of history today: The present St. Adalbert Church building is the

second church building in its history. It was rebuilt and first use don

Easter Sunday, April 17, 1938. On September 11, 1938, Bishop Joseph

Shrembs, the Bishop of Cleveland, solemnly dedicated the church.

Bishop Shrembs had a deep and personal devotion to Our Lady of

Perpetual Help. In every church or school that he blessed and dedicat-

ed during his tenure he saw to it that a picture of our Lady of Perpetual

Help would be enthroned. Consequently, the picture of OLPH en-

throned at our Marian altar.

Two years after our church was built, World War II erupted. Father

John Solinski, Pastor of St Adalbert's, determined that we should have

a weekly novena to Our Lady of Perpetual Help to pray for peace and

the protection of our country and all our parishioners serving in the

military.

Throughout all these years, from 1940 to the present 2018,the novena

to Our Lady of Perpetual Help continues. It is scheduled every Tuesday

at 7:00 PM following the 6:30 PM Mass. The novena prayers are alter-

nately led by parishioners: Martha Borowski, Marie Foley, Steve Kilo,

and Lois Riddles. We are grateful for their dedication.

Are there concerns in your heart that you wish to pray for?

Health...surgery...broken relationship...employment...etc. The novena to

Our Lady of Perpetual Help is a good source. As the infant Jesus ran

into the arms of His Mother for help,

so can we.

God bless you,

Father Keller

P.S. There will be a Parish Festival meeting this Tuesday, June 12,

7:00 PM in the Fr. Keller Center. All are welcome.

Eucharistic Adoration

9am– 6pm

every Tuesday.

Understood simply,

Eucharistic Adoration is

adoring or honoring the

Eucharistic Presence of

Christ. In a deeper sense, it

involves "the contemplation of

the Mystery of Christ truly

present before us".

During Eucharistic Adoration,

we "watch and wait", we re-

main "silent" in His Presence

and open ourselves to His

Graces which flow from the

Eucharist ... By worshiping

the Eucharistic Jesus, we be-

come what God wants us to

be! Like a magnet, The Lord

draws us to Himself and

gently transforms us.

In its fullest essence ...

Eucharistic Adoration is "God

and Man reaching out for each

other, at the same time!"

All are welcome

Starting this weekend, all of our choirs are off for the summer and they will return in

September. The members of our choirs are very dedicated people who make a commit-

ment of their time and talent to help bring more beauty to our liturgies at St. Adalbert’s.

Be sure to thank them if you happen to see one or more of them sitting with you in the

pews this summer!

Also, I would like to encourage any of you who have been blessed with the talent of sing-

ing to take the time to consider joining one of our choirs in the Fall. The joy of singing beautiful music with

others is such a gift. Why not consider if the Holy Spirit wants you to experience that gift?

One last thing: if you’re finding yourself wondering what those numbers mean that run vertically down the

left side of the hymn board, they are the number in the hymn book for the Gloria or the Holy for that Mass.

The rest of the Ordinary parts of the Mass (Gloria, Holy, Memorial Acclamation, Amen and Lamb of God)

come from the same Mass setting, so they will be easy to find once you know the first one. If the number on

the board is for the Holy, then the Gloria can be found in the front cover of the Missalettes.

Also, if you see a letter on the hymn board, it refers to the song, chant or antiphon that can be found in the

supplement which should be tucked in the back cover of the hymn books.

May you have a very blessed and relaxing summer!

Jennifer Broeren, Director of Music

It’s been just over a year since eight men were ordained to the

priesthood by Bishop Daniel Thomas, apostolic administrator of

the Diocese of Cleveland. Bishop Thomas, who heads the

Diocese of Toledo, also guided the Cleveland Diocese from the

time Bishop Richard Lennon retired in December 2016 until

Bishop Nelson Perez was installed last September. During that

time, he celebrated the ordination the Mass for this group of

priests who are serving at parishes in the diocese.

Father Soohyan (Peter) Bang, Father Jacob Bearer, Father James Cosgrove, Father Eric Garris, Father

Matthew Jordan, Father Robert McWilliams, Father Peter Morris and Father Anthony Simone were

ordained on May 19, 2017 in the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in downtown Cleveland.

Bishop Perez invited the eight classmates to a private lunch at his residence on May 29 so he could get bet-

ter acquainted with them and to celebrate the first anniversary of their ordination. They told him their

class gathered last weekend for dinner, conversation and to catch up on their first year of priestly ministry

The bishop has arranged lunches with small groups of priests in order to get better acquainted. They gather

for informal conversation before heading to the rectory chapel for midday prayer and then to the dining

room for lunch.
