You should ... love to postpone 'anger'.
You should ... love to postpone 'ego'.
You should ... love to postpone 'possessiveness'.
You should love to postpone 'jealousy'.
But these things are very sporadic and instantaneous.
The idiocy is that, subtly we feel we are going to live forever.
So we presume that prayers or meditation can wait.
We feel that prayers and meditation can be postponed.
God is a subject which everyone loves to postpone. “Not today !” “Not now !”
“We will see some other time !”
Life is temporary and short lived.
Postpone anger, pride, ego, jealousy, possessiveness, greed, lust etc.,
Don’t postpone God ! Don’t postpone Prayers !
Don’t postpone Meditation !
Don’t postpone Charity !

In the dice game which kauravas played with pandavas, duryodhana nominated shakuni to play on behalf of kauravas.... According to rules of the game, this prac-
tice is allowed....
Whereas
The all good and justification personified yudhistra played on behalf of pandavas
& seldom lord krishna came in to his mind to play on behalf of pandavas....
Sometimes even people who are considered good and straight forward have a
subtle ego which makes them to forget the lord at the right time...

SATYA SAI BABA AND THE SCHOOL BOY
There was a school boy once who was very poor in mathematics. When the
day of examination came around, he went to a temple of Sai Baba and vowed that if the questions were easy and he could solve all the problems correctly, he would offer 5 kg of sweetened rice to Him. The paper turned out to be with-in the limits of his capacity; he finished answering all the questions correctly within the allotted time; he had an extra hour on hand. So, he took a few sheets of paper and drew up a list of items with their price, to prepare the offering he had vowed to Sai Baba. He had a ten rupee note in his pocket; but when he added up the cost of rice, sugar, cashew nut, carda-mom, ghee, dried grapes etc. the total amount required was found to be about 15 rupees! He tried cancelling a few items and reducing the quantities of a few, but the total was always more than what he could afford. Then, he argued that Sai Baba was not in need of sweetened rice and that a few fruits should certainly satisfy Him. Fruits too were very costly, but he found that the flowers were not. Then he remembered that in the Gita, the Lord had said that patram (leaf) pushpam (flower) phalam (fruit) or toyam
(water) would be enough to please Him. So he finally decided that toyam (water) from the well, in his house would be ample payment for the grace he received that day. He could well save the ten rupee for a film he longed to see; he calculated how much that would cost and was glad to find that he could even take one of his friends to the movie. Just when he arrived at this happy conclusion, the invigilator called that the hour was over and asked for the an-swer papers to be handed over. The boy woke up from his reverie and in the confusion, he handed over the sheets whereon he had made all the calculations of cost and quantity for the sweetened rice offering, the fruits, the flowers, and finally, the movie. When he went home and looked into the papers he brought back, he found to his dis-may that they were the answer papers he had to hand over to the invigilator! It is all a matter of 're-action, re-sound and re-flection'. What you plan to do to another, recoils on to you. God is neither angry, nor vengeful. He is the eter-nal witness of the play. You punish yourselves for your evil thoughts and deeds; you reward yourselves for your good thoughts and deeds. That is the real Truth!!

SAINT’S MISSION
The purpose or object of Divine Incarnation is to protect the good and destroy
the wicked. But, the mission of the saints is quite different. To them the good
and the wicked are one and the same. First, they draw the evil-doers and set
them on the right path. They are the Agasti1 to destroy the Bhava-sagar (the
ocean of worldly existence) or the sun to destroy the darkness of ignorance. Our
Sai is One of these, who incarnated for the welfare of the devotees. Supreme in
knowledge and surrounded with divine aura, He loved all being equally. He was
unattached. Foes and friends, kings and paupers, all were same to Him. Hear
His Leelas! For the sake of devotees, He gave His stock of merits and was ever
alert to help them. But, the devotees could never approach Him, unless He
meant to receive them. If their appointed time did not come, they did not re-
member Baba, and His Leelas could not reach their ears. Then, how could they
think of seeing Him? Some men desired to see Sai Bab, but they did not get any
opportunity of taking His Darshan, till His Samadhi. There are many such per-
sons, whose desire for Baba’s darshan was not thus satisfied. If these persons,
believing in Him, listen to His Leelas, their quest for darshan will be, to a great
extent, satisfied by the Leelas. Even if some persons went there by sheer luck
and took Baba’s darshan, were they able to stay longer? No. Nobody could go
there of his own accord and nobody could stay there longer if Baba did not wish
so. They could stay there, so long as Baba permitted them to stay, and had to
leave the place, when asked to do so by Him so, everything depended on Baba’s
divine will.
THE INSCRUTABLE POWER OF MAYA
Baba’s words were always short, deep, full of meaning, effective and well-
balanced. He was ever content and never cared for anything. He said, “Though I
am a Fakir, have no house or wife, and though, leaving all care, I stay at one
place, the inevitable Maya teases Me often. Though, I forgot Myself but she can-
not forget Me. She always envelopes Me. This Maya (illusive power) of the Lord
(Sri Hari) harasses even Lord Brahma and others, then what to speak of a poor
Fakir, like Me? Those, who take refuge in God, will be freed from Her clutches
with His grace.”

In such terms Baba spoke about the power of Maya. Lord Sri Krishna has said
to Uddhava in the Bhagwat that the saints are His living forms and see, what
Baba has said for the welfare of His devotees, “Those, who are fortunate and
whose demerits have vanished, take to My worship. If you always say “Sai, Sai”,
I shall take you over the seven seas believe in these words, and you will be cer-
tainly benefitted. I do not need any paraphernalia of worship – either eight-fold
or sixteen-fold. I rest there, where there is full devotion.”

All that time I once spent in rummage, Seem distant now, yet I pay my homage.
Sadhana at home and in pilgrimage. Now, You and Me a transient image.
Sadhguru will this feather join your Plumage?
When in meditation, what is my part? Body, breath, and I together we start. Body and breath slowly stand apart.
Breath and I united until thoughts depart. ‘I’ standing alone is a mere clip art.

THE OIL LAMP, THE MOON, AND THE SUN
“The knowledge of a worldly person, the knowledge of a devotee, and the Knowledge of an Incarnation are by no means of the same degree. The knowledge of a worldly person is like that of an oil lamp, which shows only the inside of a room. Through such knowledge he eats and drinks, attends to
household duties, protects his body, brings up his children, and so on.
The knowledge of a devotee is like the light of the moon, which illumines objects both inside and outside of a room. But such light is still limited, because it can-
not enable him to see a distant or minute object.
The knowledge of an Incarnation of God is like the light of the Sun. Through such knowledge the incarnation can see everything- inside and outside, big and
small.”
IGNORANCE, KNOWLEDGE AND VIJNANA
“When a thorn gets into the sole of your foot, you procure a second thorn. After taking out the first thorn with the help of the second thorn, you throw both thorns away. Likewise, you should procure the thorn of knowledge to remove the thorn of ignorance. After destroying ignorance, you should discard both knowledge and ignorance. Then you attain Vijnana. Vijnana is special
knowledge of God.
To know many things is ignorance. To know that God dwells in all beings is knowledge. Vijnana is to know God in a special manner, to converse with Him
and feel Him to be one’s relative.”

PATANJALI YOGA SUTRA —KAVINAYA
Patanjali Yoga Sutra – “Samadhi Pada”

Practice should be done with these qualities 1) for a long time, 2) continuously, and 3) With sincerity. In Tamil, there is a great literature about 63 Nayanmars or devotees of Lord Shiva. Although the service of each of them was not the same and they did not express their Bakthi or devotion in the same way, there was something that was the same about all of them. It was their ever flowing love for the Lord and their determination in doing what they were doing, even in the face of adversity.
Ilayankudi Maranar (Marar) was born in Ilaiyangudi, in Tamil Nadu. Marar was a farmer and he accumulated great wealth by agriculture. He was a staunch devotee of the God Shiva, and served the God and His devotees. He welcomed devotees of Shiva to his home, washed their feet and fed them feast.
To test Marar's devotion, Shiva made his wealth wane. Marar continued to serve the devotees in penury, as he did in plenty. The Nayanmar sold all his proper-
ties to feed the devotees.
On a night of torrential downpour, Lord Shiva came disguised as a devotee and came to Marar's home. Marar welcomed the guest with respect, dried him and gave him a warm seat to sit. The starving couple pondered how they could feed the guest as the house had no food and it was pouring outside. The wife sug-gested that the paddy sown in the field can be gathered and prepared as a meal for the guest. Marar rushed to the field in the deluge and gathered the flooding seeds from the field. Since there was no firewood, the Nayanmar pulled a rafter from the wooden roof to use as fuel. They prepared a meal with the rice from the paddy and some spinach from the garden. When Marar went to call the resting devotee to have food, the story goes that Lord Shiva appeared in his true form with his consort Parvati, blessed the couple, and took Marar and his wife to his
abode Kailash.
Here, Marar’s Practice was to serve the devotees, from which he never failed
even in the worst of the circumstances.

NEVER TRY TO INQUIRE ABOUT SAINTS’ PAST LIFE!
Once there was one Chand Patil who was searching for his lost horse. He saw
an old Fakir sitting under a tree inviting him to share a smoke. He dug the
ground to take out some fire and brought water by scratching the earth with His
Satka to prepare the smoke. After sharing it with Patil, the Fakir told him to
search in the nearby meadow and the man found his horse there! Chand Patil
invited the Fakir to his village and after a few days, they all went to Shirdi for a
wedding. The Fakir also joined them and the temple priest Mahalsapathi greet-
ed the Fakir ‘Ya, SAI’! thus the name SAI was given to Fakir and Sai stayed
there forever.
He was recognized by many great saints as a shining jewel. Unmindful of these
praises. Sai tended to a flower garden with pots of water. The present day
Samadhi Mandir is in this land only. One Mr. Bai Krishnaji was instrumental in
installing Sai Padhukas under a neem tree following a dream vision. With
Baba’s permission and others’ help, the Padhukas were installed with an in-
scription and regular puja is offered till today!
Baba was having long hair and but He changed His appearance after got defeat-
ed by one Tamboli from Mohit. He started wearing a long Kafni and a turban.
He never possessed anything except for a stick and Chillim. He always stayed in
a ruined Masjid. His fame spread around the Ahamed Nagar district after Nana
sahib got a son through His blessings. ‘Alla Malik’ was His one constant procla-
mation.
When the oil merchants refused to give oil for Baba to light the lamps, Baba
came back to Masjid, drank some water and spat it in the oil can and lighted
the lamps. Lo! All lamps shone brightly throughout the night! The merchants
saw this miracle and begged for Baba’s pardon, whom Baba forgave.
A dubious guru called Jawahar Ali claimed Baba was his disciple and took Him
away to Rahata. Baba did not protest and followed the fake Guru. Later people
of Shirdi claimed back Baba by defeating Jawahar Ali in a debate. Several years
later, this guru came to Shirdi and asked Baba’s pardon, realizing his mistake.
Thus, Baba corrected this man with His humility.
