Stats SA 280 000 (2013)

Number of unemployed graduates in South Africa

Does it really matter which is

the correct statistic?

The key issue is what are

institutions, department of

labour and government doing

about it?

If these statistics are correct,

there’s an exponentially high

increase of 42% in 2 years –

could this be the results of the

economic recession?1. Stats SA, labour force survey, 2009

Quite a small number of

graduates are absorbed into

the formal economy.

These figures represent a

sample size of 1000 graduates

and a racial break down that is

98% African and 2% Coloured.

Is this fate or can the numbers

be changed
