COMPREHENSIVEPHACO TRAINING IN NEPAL

You need more surgical phaco practice? Get trained with the best Oertli equipment at the Sagarmatha Choudhary Eye Hospital in Lahan, Nepal. The training is supervised by senior instructors who support you during at least a four weeks training. The compre-hensive training also includes pre-operative work-up and post-operative care of patients. You will get more routine in phaco surgeries, develop further surgical skills and support the charity against blindness.

About the SagarmathaChoudhary Eye Hospital Dr. Albrecht Hennig has started in 1983 with the support of Christoffel Blindenmission and Ne-pal Netra Jyoti Sangh eye care services in the village of Lahan in South-East Nepal. Meanwhile this hospital has grown to one of the world‘s largest eye treatment centres with 450 beds and 7 satellite clinics, providing high quality eye services at an affordable cost to a huge population in Eastern Nepal and Northern India.

Together with its partner Eye Hospital in Biratnagar, which was started in 2006, more than 115,000 eye surgeries are performed annually. Oertli is a proud partner of the hospital and supports the charity collaboration since 2012.

Training RequirementsQualified practicing Ophthalmologist with MD/DO/FRAS/DNB degree from reco-gnized university. The applicant must be proficient in Capsulorhhexis. The Sagarma-tha Choudhary Eye Hospital decides about accepting or rejecting of applicants.

Training ContentThe courses have at least a duration of four weeks. The teaching is on a highly individual basis with a permanent supervision. A very high number of surgeries can be done within this short time. The skills of each individual surgeon, no matter if it is a beginner or refresher, will be deve-loped further.

− First week: observing phaco and performing capsulorhexis

− Second week: phaco step by step under supervision

− Third and forth week: independent surgery

ContributionWith prior notice of around two months, the training can be arranged at virtually any time of the year. The costs are CHF 100.00 per day. Travel, transportation and accommo-dation need to be organised and paid by the candidate.

TravelInternational flights are approaching Khatmandu and domestic flights will bring you to the local airport Janakpur or Biratnagar. Driving to the hospital in Lahan takes around two hours. A pick up can be provided from the hospital against additional payment.
