DEVELOPMENT: autumn.PARTS: tepals – stamens – stigma. FUNCTIONS: tepals protect the interior of the flower and attract insects. The stamen produces pollen. The stigma collects polen.IT’S USED: some components used in food or cosmetics are extracted from the tepals. The dry stigma is a spice, saffron, and is used as a seasoning in food, to add colour, taste and smell to food. It also has medicinal properties.

The corm stores water and nutrients; it is a structure for vegetative reproduction; it is planted to obtain new saffron plants.!- FLOWERS: Tepals – Stamen – Stigma.The tepals protect the inside of the flower and attract insects. Some components can be extracted from the petals and can be used in the food and cosmetics industry. The stamens produce pollen. - SPRING AND SUMMER: DIG with the hoe to air the soil. “Worms also do it!” WEED by hand and with the hoe, gathering the weeds with the rake; this is done so other plants don’t deprive saffron of water and nutrients.!- SUMMER: make grooves/furrows with the hoe and PLANT the corms of saffron using hands. !- SUMMER AND WINTER: -FERTILIZE with the mulch to give nutrients to the saffron “The same as fungi and bacteria”. Use the spade to apply and the rake to spread it out.WATER with a watering can or a watering system. “Save water, it’s scarce”.!- AUTUMN: COLLECT saffron flowers by hand and put them in baskets. PEEL the flowers by hand to extract the stigmas. DRY the stigmas, in the oven or on a stove to get the saffron spice. The stigmas preserve and enhance their smell and taste in the absence of humidity.WEIGH AND PACK the strands of saffron for selling. !

Hoe: used to dig and mix the soil. Spade: used to dig, shovel and put spread soil and compost on the field. Trowel: used to dig, shovel and put soil and compost by hand. Measuring tape: used to measure Sticks and string: used to mark the plots and grooves. Hammer: used to hammer in the sticks. Watering can: used fetch, transport and apply water.

that: With a computer, make a table for comparing weights of the harvest.

Use all the data of wheights that scored each one of the teams. put it by columns in

a spreadsheet and calculate the differences. !• Weight of the harvested flowers.

• Weight of fresh stigmas extracted of the flowers.

• Weight of the dried stigmas.
