This term Year 11 students have been participating in a unique program called DRUMBEAT delivered by our School Chaplain Jason Berry This social and emotional learning program incorporates hand-drumming with a focus on social connection through teamwork to build resilience and to change social behaviours DRUMBEAT is an acronym for Discovering Relationships Using Music Beliefs Emotions Attitudes and Thoughts Each session was centred on relationship themes including identity teamwork communication peer pressure values and managing emotions The students worked as a team to set and enforce group boundaries and discuss social issues through rhythm analogies
For the past year Dan and Claire have been involved in the Toowoomba Region Youth Leaders program where there was an opportunity to become involved in the Toowoomba Regional Council The youth leaders learnt about local communities and groups local events activities and services available for young people The program also provided opportunities for them to learn council processes as well as encouraging everyone to have a say and assist in developing ideas that will benefit all young people in the community
Please read Danrsquos reflection as a Youth leader from 2019
The 2019 Youth Leaders Program was truly an experience From the half monthly meetings to the day-long camps the whole journey was really inviting and worth taking part in I truly enjoyed every interaction with both former and present youth leaders as well as the coordinators for the group The Youth Leaders Program taught me how to act well in a group taking leadership when needed and how to organise a decent sized group of people The program has done wonders for my confidence as I was able to pitch various projects in front of groups of people I would recommend this program it is certainly an experience and one I know many will enjoy

HEAD OF CAMPUS UPDATE (continued)
Many young people tell us that they get the most benefit from these sessions if they attend regularly rather than waiting until assessment is due
AttendanceThank you to families who are working with us to support attendance at school parents and caregivers play a key role in ensuring all students attend school every day Our young people at Flexi are aware of our attendance requirement of 85 and above I encourage all parents caregivers to contact the office and to provide an explanation of absence as soon as you are aware your young person will not be attending school
To finish it has been lovely to see and hear good news stories from our Graduating Class of 2019 Lilly stopped in for a chat and filled me in on her pathway beyond Flexi Additionally Evie and her partner were married at Currumbin Beach and look forward to the pitter-patter of tiny feet early in 2021 Congratulations Evelyn and NicFlexi school truly is a family where young people feel secure and cared for and love to return and share their successes
May you all have a safe and relaxing break and I look forward to working with you into Term 4

Term 3 started with the most amazing welcome back breakfast ever seen Bacon and egg muffins cooked to absolute perfection Staff and students thoroughly enjoyed the nice relaxed start back into the learning for Term 3 Big thanks to all who helped prepare and serve this great breakfast
The highlight of the term would have to be our camp to Currimundi Recreation Centre We spent three days and two nights at camp completing various activities challenging ourselves and working as a team Some of the highlights would have to be the canoeing although the boys couldnrsquot manage to stay in their canoe and the giant swing The weather was absolutely perfect and everyone had a great time I must apologise to the boys who I kept hitting during Archery Attack Sorry I tried to miss you but you just kept running into the arrows The Year 12 cohort has maintained a very good attendance rate with our average currently sitting at just over 91 That is an excellent achievement Well done to everyone With only a few weeks left of school for these wonderful young people letrsquos keep it up
