INTRODUCTION When working in the electrical

laboratory or when using electrical equipments, observing proper safety precautions is equally important as making accurate measurements.

Many deadly hazards exist in the environment of the electrical laboratory. So safety measures are required.

DISASTERS Fire caused by excessive overloading of

current. Short circuit due to improper insulation

of wires. Electric shock by leakage of current.

SAFETY MEASURESEarthing

Types of earthing :1. Pipe Earthing2. Plate Earthing

FUSE Fuse is a wire of short length having low

melting point which gives protection against excessive current.

Fuse wire melts when heat is produced due to excessive current and causes the circuit to break.

Types:1. Rewirable fuse2. Cartridge fuse3. HRC fuse

CIRCUIT BREAKERS A circuit breaker is a protective device that

is used for making and breaking of circuit. Maximum overload current may be as low

as 5000A for a common household circuit breaker and may be 50000A for industries.

Types of Circuit Breakers:1. MCB2. MCCB3. ELCB

OTHER PRECAUTIONS Avoid water at all time when working

with electricity. Always use insulated tools while

working. Know the wire code of country. Use fuse or circuit breaker with the

appropriate current rating. Use insulated wires.

Do not use metal ladder while working at height with electrical equipments.

Always take care while soldering your circuit boards.

Working outside with underground cables can be dangerous.
