XIX. WORLD CONGRESS’ EXHIBITIONON SAFETY AND HEALTH AT WORK
11 - 15 September 2011 / Haliç Congress Center, İstanbul - TURKEY
It is a great pleasure for me to announce that the Ministry of
Labour and Social Security of Turkey (MLSST) will co-host the
XIX World Congress on Safety and Health at Work from 11-
15 September 2011 in İstanbul, Turkey, together with the
International Labour Organization (ILO) and the International
Social Security Association (ISSA).
The global financial and economic crisis has had adverse effects
on employment and working life, and also on occupational safety and health all over the world.
Global challenges necessitate global cooperation and one of the most effective and efficient
ways is to invest jointly in a safe working environment which will promote well-being and boost
productivity by means of eliminating injuries and illnesses.
İstanbul is a cradle of civilizations and cultures - the only city in the world to straddle two
continents, Asia and Europe, with a history of over 2,500 years. It is the European Capital of
Culture 2010. İstanbul and the regions nearby are also very important centers for industry and
international trade.
To participate in the XIX World Congress in İstanbul will be a good opportunity for decision-
makers, safety and health professionals, employers’ and workers’ representatives and other
stakeholders who are active in the field of occupational safety and health in order to ensure
close cooperation in the exchange of information with experts all around the world and also to
explore one of the most famous towns and cultures in the world.
I would like to invite you all to the XIX World Congress in İstanbul and look very much forward to
meeting you there!
Wishing you all a healthy and safe future,
Ömer DİNÇER
Minister of Labour and Social Security

The history of IKON Events dates back to 1992 when IKON Tourism was founded with a mission to promote İstanbul as a preferred destination for global congress tourism. A series of highly successful national as well as international congresses and meetings organized by the company, with a total roster adding up to ten thousands of participants, propelled IKON Tourism to the leading ranks of the sector in short order.
Fairs and exhibitions are integral features of world-scale congresses, and IKON had gained a wealth of experience in this field by the time it launched a subsidiary specialized in fair organizations in 2002. Today, IKON Events is one of the congress organizers awarded The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB)’s Authorization for Organizing Fairs within Turkey.
A member of the national professional organization TURSAB (Association of Turkish Travel Agencies), as well as of other international and national bodies including ICCA (International Congress & Convention Association) and ICVB (Istanbul Convention & Visitors Bureau), IKON closely follows and helps shape developments in the field of congress tourism. The company has an ISO 9001:2000 Quality System Certificate.
IKON is a founding partner of both UKTAŞ, the management company of Lütfi Kırdar Convention & Exhibition Center, and KOMER, the Kuşadası Convention Center. The latest addition to IKON Group to date is the Sofa Hotel which was opened in 2006 as Turkey’s first HIP hotel.
With an impressive record of achievements in congress and fair organizing, and in event management, with over 200.000 participants and visitors to date, IKON restructured its comprehensive range of services in 2007 under the new name IKON Events.
IKON has played a major part in placing İstanbul on the map of global congress tourism. Now, as IKON Events, we expand our field of operation to introduce other attractive locations in Turkey to international conventions, and to undertake organizations in European centers.
