The OSSCAs are back!
The Outstanding Safer and StrongerCommunities Awards (OSSCAs) return in2013 with exciting new categories and asparkling awards ceremony.
Safer and Stronger Communities feels it isimportant to recognise the hard work fromthe groups, individuals and volunteers thatmake North East Lincolnshire a better andsafer place to live. The OSSCAs are a greatway to say thank you and to showcase thegood work that is going on.

Safer and Stronger Communities, inconjunction with Humberside Police, arecurrently running our annual prioritiessurvey.
We’d love to hear your views on how crimeand anti-social behaviour have affected youin your community and neighbourhood, aswell as your ideas about what you think weshould be focusing on in 2013/14.
The Community Safety Team will be out andabout visiting supermarkets, libraries,
colleges, children's centres and communitygroups at the end of January to speak to ourresidents about your priorities and concerns.This will inform how we select our priorities forthe coming year.

make their community saferand this has been a greatsuccess.
Local businesses andagencies have since becomeinvolved, including TheHainton Pub, NAVIGO'sHarrison House, Peaks LaneYMCA, St Andrews Hospice,St Hughes hospital and theFire Station.
The group has alreadyorganised the clearing oflitter in the area throughthe Community Paybackscheme, and all theneighbours are keepingtheir eyes peeled for fly-tippers.
Several members of thecommunity have taken theresponsibility to supportand lead the group,including a newCoordinator, ViceCoordinator and secretarialstaff.
NewNeighbourhoodWatch in Peaks
LaneLocal residents of Peaks Laneand Weelsby Road in Grimsbyhave taken on the responsibilityof championing communitysafety in their area and haveformed a Neighbourhood WatchGroup.
Residents on and near PeaksLane have been sufferingmyriad issues including criminaldamage, hate related insults,late night drunkenness, litteringand fly-tipping.
Support was requested to dealwith the multitude of issuesaffecting the area and localCouncillors organised an initialmeeting.
The residents decided toexplore the option of workingcloser together in an effort to

On 15th November a groupof 12 people from the SaferFuture CommunitiesNetwork, NeighbourhoodWatch and othercommunity leaders spentthe day in Hull Prison,organised by theCommunity and VoluntarySafer and Stronger WorkingGroup.
They had a tour of theentire prison complexstarting with the new wingand culminating in the oldVictorian area.
Two members of the partysaid that it reinforced theirunderstanding that prisonis a dire place – not the‘prisoners get everything’kind of understanding thatsome people talk about.
