Consumers justifiably demand very high standards

of food safety. What they want is the very best for

themselves, their families and society. That is why strict

standards are applied for the production, processing,

packaging and distribution of fruit and vegetables.

Fresh Produce Centre engages in a constant dialogue

with partners, in and outside the sector, nationally and

internationally, with the objective of safeguarding food

safety as well as possible.

Inspection and control are vital processes that

contribute to securing the right quality levels and food

safety. At each stage of the process, from production

to the point of sale in the retail chain, the produce is

monitored and inspected by companies themselves and

by the government. The fruit and vegetable sector is

the only fresh produce sector with its own inspection

service, known as Food Compass. This enables

consumers to rely on safe fruit and vegetables.
