Safari ya Mafanikio (Journey of Hope) Community Resource Kit (CRK) Lessons Learnt Jacob Macha Field Operation Manager - TCDC Background Safari ya Mafanikio Community Resource Kit (CRK) was developed by TCDC and JHUCCP in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare. It is a comprehensive package which put together all campaigns CRKs. A series of 12 modules designed to address the most pressing health issues facing Tanzanians. CRK Contents The twelve CRK modules includes; 1.Healthy Future 2.HIV Prevention 3.HIV Testing and Counseling (HTC) 4.Voluntary Male Medical Circumcision (VMMC) 5.HIV treatment, adherence and support 6.Tuberculosis (TB) 7.Maternal, Newborn and Child Health (MNCH) 8.Preventing HIV transmission to your baby (eMTCT) 9.Family Planning (FP) 10.Most Vulnerable Children (MVC) 11.Malaria prevention 12.Malaria treatment and prevention during pregnancy Successes The CRK is more efficient for facilitators because it is distributed as a single, comprehensive package, rather than individual lessons. The modules in the CRK complement each other, but each can also be taught individually depending on the circumstances of the audience. It has been rolled out in 12 regions out of 16 regions Successes cont The CRK uses locally-available materials, which increases its feasibility for use in even the most remote environments The CRK provides a vehicle for demand creation by providing community volunteers with the means to refer community members to local health facilities. It is very participatory and engaging because it has a great deal of role plays, energizers/icebreakers and games. Challenges The CRK is covering a number of health areas, hence make it difficult to get approval because it has to go through so many sections within MoHSW. Trained community health worker are currently using CRK talking points instead of the whole package. Recommendations/Way forward Currently started to discuss with the Ministry of Health to find ways to incorporate Safari ya Mafanikio CRK into the National training curriculum for CHWs. Develop cue cards with talking points for each CRK module.
