Begin your journey underneath our big window at the west end of the building – this is the first stop on your safari.
Collect a safari backpack to take with you on your journey. Inside it you will find the following:
Binoculars - to help you spot any animals that are far away
Torch – so you can find animals hiding in dark corners
Pencil and crayons – use these to draw any animals you see
A pen – to write down the answers to our Safari Quiz
Paper and instructions – to make your very own Safari hat to wear on your travels!
You can use your safari trail map and the compass points to find your way around the Cathedral. Good luck and have fun!

Now find the eagle at the entrance to the Quire. This is the tomb of King John, who ruled England between 1199 and 1216. He is one of England’s most unpopular kings and is famous for agreeing to Magna Carta (meaning ‘the Great Charter’), a document that limited a king’s powers for the first time.
The misericords are carved wooden seats around the outside of the Quire that monks would have sat on.Look at the seats and see if you can find some strange animals. Have a go at drawing one of the animals you have spotted.

Now look up at the large east window in the Lady Chapel. What four-legged animal can you find on the left? CLUE:
If the chapel is empty creep inside and find the wooden carving of Mary and Jesus. To the right of Mary and Jesus is a statue of Saint Wulfstan who is the founder of this Cathedral.

Now let’s go down to stop number 5
Start by looking down at the floor underneath the West Window and find the large grey memorial stone to Stanley Baldwin.He was Prime Minister three times between the First and Second World Wars.
Look for the place where the priest stands to talk to the people (this is called a PULPIT).
How many lions are there at the bottom of the pulpit steps?
Now unjumble the letters to discover the material the lions have been carved from.
What birds can you see at the top of his memorial stone?
How many birds, lions and elephants can you see on the sides of the tomb?
