This month, our parish will be participating in the Box of Joy program, a Christmas gift outreach organized by local Catholic schools, parishes and groups nationwide. By packing Boxes of Joy with toys and other gifts, our parishioners will bless children suffering from extreme poverty by sharing the joy of Christmas and planting seeds of hope through the Gospel. The Kickoff Celebration for our Box of Joy outreach will be Sunday, Oct. 6, 2019. Materials will be available starting Sunday, October 6 and the deadline for returning your packed Boxes of Joy will be Sunday, Nov. 3, 2019. Please bring your boxes to the hall in the lower church. Checks to cover the shipping of the gifts overseas should be made out to Cross Catholic Outreach, not the parish. We encourage every parishioner to pack a Box of Joy! For

Parish Baby Shower — Christ Our Hope In Every Season of Life
October is Respect Life month. Our Parish Baby Shower will be held after all the Masses on October 26th & 27th to benefit Pregnancy Help, the crisis pregnancy center of the Pro Life Office of the Archdiocese of Boston. Your support enables mothers to make life-affirming decisions for their unborn children.
Please bring NEW basic baby layette items, including diapers (size newborn and 1). Toiletries: Diaper Rash Ointment, Shampoo, Body Wash (NO POWDER PLEASE) Please note that because of safety and liability issues, Pregnancy Help can only accept NEW items. Monetary donations are also gratefully accepted.
In the words of Mother Teresa, “The best gift we can give to any child is to make that child feel WANTED, LOVED and CARED for because that child is the greatest gift of God.” Please participate and open your hearts to life! If anyone wishes to help after the Mass they attend, please see Kathleen at the back of the church.
Cheverus Catholic School News
• Teachers enjoyed a professional day at Saint Joseph’s Parish in Wakefield along with other area Catholic schools. After Mass, awards were distributed to those teachers who were celebrating milestone years in Catholic education and those who have completed higher degrees in education. They also enjoyed a presentation by Dr. Steven Contantino on parent engagement.
• The 4th Annual Gala was a huge success, raising money for a new fire safety system, as well as scholarships for students in need.
• Progress reports were distributed to students, allowing their parents some insight to how they are doing academically.
• Band lessons began for students in grades 1-8. There are beginner through expert lessons in violin, drums, and brass instruments.

8Day Spiritua Exercises f
St Igatius f y a Preseter Fr F avi Gi i S
Based on both Sacred Scripture and the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius Loyola, the retreat offers individual spiritual direction in an environment of silence and prayer. Retreatants meet once a day with his/her spiritual director to reflect on their prayer experiences and to see how God is active and working in their lives. At the end of each meeting, the retreatant will be offered Biblical texts tailored to their spiritual journey to guide their prayer and reflection.
Retreat begins on Sunday, Nov. 3rd at 7:00 (Registration at 6:30)
Retreat ends after Brunch on Sunday, Nov. 10th Suggested Offering: $550 per person.
Sunday Reflection: “Remain faithful to what you have learned and believed. . . proclaim the word; be persistent whether it is convenient or inconvenient”. Paul makes it very clear that the scriptures we hear are God’s inspired word for us. Therefore, when we pray with the Scriptures, we can be confident that God shows us where and with whom we are to “proclaim the word.” So as the familiar hymn pro-claims, “Take the word of God with you as you go. Take the seeds of God’s word and let them grow.”

The Sacred Hearts Conference of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul would like to thank all who have donated food, toiletries, and candle offerings these last few months. With your help we have fed many families, kept the electricity and gas on for 4 families, helped with rent, provided school and
winter clothes to 3 children, and helped diaper and clothe a 2-month-old baby. The need for food and other help is ongoing and any dona-tion you are able to give will help us serve God’s people. You may give a donation to us in the candle offering box, in an envelope marked SVdP in the weekly collection, on-line, or by mailing an offering to the rectory at 297 Main Street, Malden 02148. Please specify SVdP on the envelope. And don’t forget the coins in the collection come to us, so drop-ping in a few extra coins with your weekly offering will help us also. As we hear the Gospels about loving your neighbor, know that SVdP is there helping the stranger. With your donation you stand there with us doing God’s work. Right now, we are in need of food for the food pantry. The following items are especially needed: tuna fish, canned chicken, canned beef stew, canned chili, canned chucky chicken noodle soup, pasta sauce, canned corn, and canned peas. Items can be left at the back of the church or dropped off at the rectory. Thank you for your help.
2019 Grand Annual Appeal
Our goal this year is $65,000
If you haven’t received a Pledge card in the mail, please pick one up from the tables in the back of
the church or at the rectory, Monday thru Friday. I hope that you will do your best to contribute to this 2019 Grand Annual Appeal. May God bless your kindness and generosity. Fr. Mario
