Saints of the Week

August 27 - Saint Monica

Saint Monica, also known as Monica of

Hippo, was an early Christian saint and the

mother of St. Augustine of Hippo. She is re-

membered and honored in most Christian

denominations, albeit on different feast days,

for her outstanding Christian virtues, particu-

larly the suffering caused by her husband's adultery, and her

prayerful life dedicated to the reformation of her son, who

wrote extensively of her pious acts and life with her in his

Confessions. Popular Christian legends recall Saint Monica

weeping every night for her son Augustine.

August 28—Saint Augustine

Saint Augustine of Hippo was a Roman Af-

rican, early Christian theologian and philoso-

pher from Numidia whose writings influ-

enced the development of the Western

Church and Western philosophy, and indi-

rectly all of Western Christianity. He was the

bishop of Hippo Regius in North Africa and

is viewed as one of the most important Church Fathers of the

Latin Church for his writings in the Patristic Period. Among

his most important works are The City of God, De doctrina

Christiana, and Confessions.

Bulletin Column for the Twenty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time

Where is the narrow gate and how do we find it? The narrow gate is in our heart. By turning to the Letter to the

Hebrews again, we find it by making, “straight paths for your feet, that what is lame may not be disjointed but healed.”

How does this apply to us today? Well, examination of conscience and receiving the sacrament of Reconciliation is modern

man’s spiritual “time out.” This is where we make straight paths so that what is “…lame may not be disjointed but

healed…” Our focus - is Jesus Christ - in the Eucharist, who opens the narrow gate to our heart, where he is found.

God bless you all,

Fr. Guy

KIDS KLUB

Praying to Our Mother for others

Perpetual Candles at Sacred Heart

As May is the month of Our Lady, we are reminded that our greatest intercessor is Our Lady.

We are blessed to have three sacred spaces with candles at which we can light a candle for our

prayers and special intentions.

These candles can be used for weekly visits, as many of you already do. There is also the pos-

sibility to reserve a candle for a month(s) or a year. Some of the intentions for which a num-

ber of parishioners have reserved candles:

Deceased or living family

Condolence for friends or family

Anniversary of Marriage

Birthday

Automatically with the condolences, we send a letter to notify the grieving family of the candle

lit in our church for their loved one. We can also send a letter when requested for the others.

Visit one of our candle devotional spaces to light a candle. Fill out the form below to re-

serve a candle for a month or year.

Prayer to Saint Michael:

Saint Michael, the Archangel, defend us in battle, be

our defense against the wickedness and snares of the

devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray; and do

thou, O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of

God, thrust into Hell Satan and the other evil spirits

who prowl about the world for the ruin of souls.

Amen.

Preghiera a San Michele:

San Michele Arcangelo, difendici nella battaglia; sii tu nostro sostegno contro la perfidia e le insidie del diavolo; che Dio eserciti il suo dominio su di lui, te ne preghiamo supplichevoli; e tu, o Principe della milizia celeste, con la potenza divina, ricaccia nell'inferno satana e gli altri spiriti maligni i quali errano nel mondo per perdere le anime. AMEN.
