FOURTH SUNDAY OF LENT YEAR A
INTROIT Isaiah 66:10-12; Ps. 121 Rejoice, O Jerusalem; and gather round, all you who love her; rejoice in gladness, after having been in sor-row; exult and be replenished with the consolation flowing from her motherly bosom. Vs. I rejoiced when it was said unto me: “Let us go to the house of the Lord.” PENITENTIAL RITE
LITURGY OF THE WORD FIRST READING__________ 1 Samuel 16:1b, 6-7, 10-13a
The LORD said to Samuel: “Fill your horn with oil, and be on your way. I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem, for I have chosen My king from among his sons.”
As Jesse and his sons came to the sacrifice, Samuel looked at Eliab and thought, “Surely the LORD’s anointed is here before Him.” But the LORD said to Samuel: “Do not judge from his appearance or from his lofty stature, because I have rejected him. Not as man sees does God see, because man sees the appear-ance but the LORD looks into the heart.” In the same way Jesse presented seven sons before Samuel, but I do believe, Lord,” and he worshiped Him. Samuel said to Jesse, “The LORD has not chosen any one of these.” Then Samuel asked Jesse, “Are these all the sons you have?” Jesse replied, “There is still the young-est, who is tending the sheep.” Samuel said to Jesse, “Send for him; we will not begin the sacrificial banquet until he arrives here.” Jesse sent and had the young man brought to them. He was ruddy, a youth hand-some to behold and making a splendid appearance. The LORD said, “There—anoint him, for this is the one!” Then Samuel, with the horn of oil in hand, anointed David in the presence of his broth-ers; and from that day on, the spirit of the LORD rushed upon David. RESPONSORIAL PSALM Psalm 23
The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want. The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. beside restful waters He leads me; He refreshes my soul. R. He guides me in right paths for His name’s sake. Even though I walk in the dark valley
I fear no evil; for You are at my side With Your rod and Your staff that give me courage. R. You spread the table before me in the sight of my foes; You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. R. Only goodness and kindness follow me all the days of my life; and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD for years to come. R. SECOND READING Ephesians 5:8-14 Brothers and sisters: You were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light, for light produces every kind of goodness and righteousness and truth. Try to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. Take no part in the fruitless works of darkness; rather expose them, for it is shameful even to mention the things done by them in secret; but everything exposed by the light becomes visible, for everything that becomes visible is light. Therefore, it says: “Awake, O sleeper, and arise from the dead, and Christ will give you light.” GOSPEL ACCLAMATION
Glory to You, O Word of God, Lord Jesus Christ.
I Am the light of the world, says the Lord; whoever follows Me will have the light of life.
GOSPEL John 9:1-41 As Jesus passed by He saw a man blind from birth. He spat on the ground and made clay with the saliva, and smeared the clay on his eyes, and said to him, “Go wash in the Pool of Siloam” — which means Sent —. So he went and washed, and came back able to see.
His neighbors and those who had seen him earlier as a beggar said, “Isn’t this the one who used to sit and beg?” Some said, “It is, “but others said, “No, he just looks like him.” He said, “I am.”
They brought the one who was once blind to the Phar-isees. Now Jesus had made clay and opened his eyes on a sabbath. So then the Pharisees also asked him how he was able to see. He said to them, “He put clay on my eyes, and I washed, and now I can see.” So some of the Pharisees said, “This Man is not from God, because He does not keep the sabbath.” But oth-ers said, “How can a sinful man do such signs?” And there was a division among them. So they said to the blind man again, “What do you have to say about

Him, since He opened your eyes?” He said, “He is a prophet.”
They answered and said to him, “You were born total-ly in sin, and are you trying to teach us?” Then they threw him out.
When Jesus heard that they had thrown him out, He found him and said, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?” He answered and said, “Who is He, sir, that I may believe in Him?” Jesus said to him, “You have seen Him, and the One speaking with you is He.” He said, “I do believe, Lord,” and he worshiped Him. PROFESSION OF FAITH I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through Him all things were made. For us men and for our salvation He came down from heaven,
(please bow) and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.
For our sake He was crucified under Pontius Pilate, He suf-fered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his Kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, Who proceeds from the Father and the Son, Who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, Who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.
LITURGY OF THE EUCHARIST OFFERTORY ANTIPHON Psalm 135:3, 6 Praise the Lord, for He is loving; sing honor of His name, for He is gracious. He has accomplished what-ever He resolved to do in heaven and on earth. COMMUNION ANTIPHON John 9:6, 11, 38 The Lord made some clay with His spittle, and He spread it over my eyes; and I went forth, I washed my-self, I began to see, and I put my faith in God.

n Prayer and devotion in the days of Coronavirus Outbreak
Mass scheduleThe suspension of public Masses has left Catholics hungry
for opportunities to worship together. Fr. Lundberg and Fr. Holmes are celebrating Mass in a private chapel on the campus and streaming them live on YouTube. All are welcome to participate on desktop, laptop, tablet, or phone. The url is: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCL0RyeVycN7KGExbFamgg1g
If you aren’t able to participate live, the recordings of Masses and devotions will be available on our YouTube channel at any time.
This week, Masses will stream at 5:30pm on Monday and Friday, 10:00am on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. Also on Wednesday, for the feast of the Solemnity of the Annunciation of the Lord, Mass will be celebrated at 5:30pm in the Extraordinary Form (Latin). The Sunday Mass schedule for next weekend will be emailed on Wednesday.
Drive through ConfessionsLast Wednesday, drive-thru Confessions began and the
process was refined on Saturday. For the foreseeable future, Confessions will be on Wednesdays, from 5:30pm to 8:00pm, and Saturdays, from 3:30pm to 5:30pm.
Outdoor Adoration in the parking lot adjacent to the rectory (parish office) will be available for those who want to offer their penance in the Presence of Our Lord, or anyone who prefers to remain in their vehicles during Adoration. (See details below.)
Confessionals have been set up in the vestibules of Sacred Heart Academy and Krempa Gym. Come onto campus, pull into the line in front of the school. Wait in your car until directed to a parking space. When a priest is free, staff will point you to the vestibule of the school, or the vestibule of the gym.
Adoration available 24 hours a dayFrom 9:00am to 9:00pm, adoration of Our Lord, present
in the Blessed Sacrament, will be available in the church. In keeping with public health guidelines, no more than 10 people should be present in the church at any time. From 9:00pm to 9:00am, Adoration will move to the Perpetual Adoration Chapel. If you can help as an adorer or substitute adorer, please contact Sue Fleming at 540-667-8921.
Outdoor Adoration will be available on Wednesdays, from 5:30pm to 8:00pm and Saturdays, from 3:30pm to 5:30pm. Pull into a spot in the parking lot adjacent to the rectory. Our Lord will be in the window during that time.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, public celebrations of the Mass will not be held until further notice. Consequently, Bishop Burbidge has dispensed all Catholics in the diocese from the obligation to attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation.
Until further notice, all parish activities and events have been canceled.

In Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart,
Rev. Bjorn Lundberg,Pastor
Sacred Heart of JesusCatholic Church
I usually say jokingly to parishioners at the beginning of Lent, “Have a wretched Lent!” This year, initially, it seemed that prayer was answered in spades. However, I think something of note is also going on.I hope and pray that you are
safe, connecting with loved ones, and praying. We are working to connect parishioners who can reach out to you, if you need help. We will be emailing, calling, and using our internet page and social media platforms to connect with our people, in whichever way works best for you. If we can help you with picking
up groceries, prescriptions, and being in contact for support, we want to help. Please call us at 540-662-5858 or email [email protected]. It is our hope to maintain connections and build new ones, too. Please stay in touch. We love you, are praying for you,
and looking for ways to serve. This first week has been a roller
coaster! Bishop Burbidge received criticism for keeping our churches open for Masses and prayer. He wasn’t happy to suspend Masses, but has engaged the diocese to creatively keep us praying and
safe. While we cannot have public celebration of Masses, all our Mass intentions are being offered in private Masses. After a crash course in Facebook
Live and YouTube Live, private Masses we offer are available to you in real time. It’s still a work in progress, but we have had a lot of positive feedback from parishioners and others who are praying with us in our “virtual parish.” This obviously doesn’t replace worship in our church and in-person fellowship, but at least we can stay connected. Why is God allowing this? Short
answer: I don’t know! I know that God brings good out of every evil. He wants us to use our reason, and to stay safe. Are we being defeated by a virus? No. The Church has always taught that when we are sick, we should stay home to recover and not infect others. The bishop has suspended public Masses and dispensed us from the obligation to attend Mass in person at a Church. But he encourages us, as our Shepherd, to pray and grow our interior lives.Belief in our times has been
an opportunity because it is challenged so much. We live in a wonderful world with many
blessings, but many of us know ABOUT God, but we don’t KNOW God. Eighty percent of Catholics
don’t understand that the Lord Jesus is truly present in the Holy Eucharist. Many of us have taken attending Mass for granted. In this time of care and
prevention of infection, we are living in our “home churches.” We are praying together using our hearts and minds, and technology, too. This Lent is an opportunity to become aware of our interior lives. We can speak honestly with God about our fears and frustrations, but we can learn to trust Him more fully also.We have published our schedule
for live streaming Masses over YouTube, and we will have “drive-in Adoration," and "drive-thru Confessions,” where you can go to Confession at the Academy in our entrance areas. You can also pull your car around to our back parking lot to adore the Lord Jesus through our rectory chapel window. Our church continues to remain open 24 hours a day for Adoration in the sanctuary and then at night in the chapel. Let's pray for each other. Tell us how we can help.

Treasure on earth"Not as man sees does God see, because man
sees the appearance but the Lord looks into the heart.” (1 Samuel 16:7)
How often do we invest our time, talent, and treasure in creating an appearance that does not matter at all to God? We strive to impress with our clothing, home, career, possessions, car, and other marks of distinction. But none of these illusions of greatness will impress God. Instead, He will look into our hearts to see how much we loved Him, how much we loved others and how we showed that love by the way we used our time, talent, and treasure here on earth.
Tell your confessor everythingDivine Mercy said, "My daughter, tell him
[confessor] everything and reveal your soul to him as you do before Me. Do not fear anything. It is to keep you in peace that I place this priest between your soul and Myself. The words he will speak to you are My words. Reveal to him your soul's greatest secrets. I will give him light to know your soul." (St. Faustina Diary, 232)
Used with permission of the Marian Fathers of the Immaculate Conception of the B.V.M.
Extra adorers are neededThe gates of the holy temple of the Lord is
never shut, neither during the day nor during the night. So it is with perpetual adoration. Our Lord is always available – in the church (from 9:00am to 9:00pm) or in the Perpetual Adoration chapel (9:00pm to 9:00am). The Lord God is waiting there for all to enter in, become part of his Presence, in adoration and thanksgiving for his unfailing love and source of light and life. Call Sue Fleming, 540-667-8921 if you would like to become an adorer.
