Sacred Heart Catholic Church Fifteenth Sunday of Ordinary Time–July 16, 2017 Reflection from the Pastor: A false caricature of Catholic morality is that we are obsessed with rules: do this, don’t do that. But this completely misses the mark. The purpose of law, especially God’s law, isn’t for the sake of the law; rather, it’s for the sake of beatitude: living the blessed life of being fully alive as a human person united with God. Our Lord Jesus Christ offers us a compelling analogy in today’s Gospel: God calls us to be fully alive with Him, but unless we are prepared to receive His gifts, then they cannot fully flourish. A hard path, rocky ground, and choking weeds are all analogies for the things that keep us from being fully alive. Sin stunts our full potential and kills our chances of being truly happy. The Lord, however, announces to us that for those who repent and trust in Him, their lives will bear rich fruit and they will be happy. May we be among those blessed men and women! Fr.
