Reflection from the Pastor: Gaudete Sunday – Rose Candle

The holiday movies and songs are now about all we hear on the radio. I

would encourage you to memorize one of the great Christmas Carols: “Good

King Wenceslaus.”

Good King Wenceslas looked out

on the feast of Stephen, when the snow lay round about,

deep and crisp and even. Brightly shone the moon that night,

though the frost was cruel,

when a poor man came in sight,

gathering winter fuel…

…In his master's step he trod,

where the snow lay dented.

Heat was in the very sod

which the saint had printed.

Therefore, Christian men, be sure,

wealth or rank possessing,

ye who now will bless the poor

shall yourselves find blessing.

The king “looked out” and noticed a

poor man. The song isn’t about

Christ’s birth so much as it’s about

doing the work of Christmas. The

king gathers food, wine and wood

for fire to be delivered by himself to

the poor man. While on the way, the

servant who is following his king

has heart trouble. The king instructs

his servant to tread in the same

footprints that he has made in the

snow so that the cold road is easier

for him. How wonderful an image

this is for Christmas? The King

(God) takes notice of the poor (us)

and seeks to do something about it

~HIMSELF! The servant (us) who

assist him, finds the road too

difficult and weather too much to

handle. Christ the King bids us to

follow in his very footsteps so that

the road is easier.

Christmas Sharing

Thank you for generously giving to our parish

families this year! Please remember to return

the wrapped gifts by Tuesday, December 17th

with the gift tag from the tree attached to the

outside of the present. You may leave gifts inside the

church entrance during weekend Masses or at the church

office. Please call Kim Ford at 660-2697 if you need to

drop them off after church office hours. Helpers would be greatly appreciated to organize and put

tags on the gifts. We will be meeting on Thursday,

December 19 at 5:00pm in the cafeteria. Families will pick

birth of a child, even in the midst of difficult circumstances.

to join us as we sing carols and share the Christmas hope

where it's needed most: the abortion facility right here in

our community.

Sacred Heart will be hosting Discovering Christ

January 12 through March, Sunday evenings from 5

pm - 7 pm as well as a retreat Sunday, February 16. A

free meal for all is included as part of the program followed

by prayer, teaching, and small group discussion. There is

no cost for the program.

Clases del Bautismo en español: Las clases pre-

bautismales son obligatorios para todos los padres y

Meditación: Domingo de Gaudete ~Vela Rosa

Las películas festivas y las canciones son ahora todo lo que podemos escuchar en la radio. Me gustaría invitarles a que

se memoricen uno de los Villancicos de Navidad; "El Buen Rey Wenceslao."

El buen Rey Wenceslao, observo … En los pasos de su jefe el piso,

en la festividad de Esteban, en donde la nieve estaba hundida.

cuando la nieve se acumula por doquier, El camino estaba muy profundo profunda y crujiente y muy pareja. En donde el santo había impreso su huella.

La brillantes de la luna se mostro esa noche, Así que, un hombre Cristiano, por seguro,

pensó que la helada era cruel, que poseía riqueza y posición, cuando un pobre hombre apareció a la vista, quien ahora bendeciría los pobres recogiendo combustible para el invierno... tendrían ellos mismos que encontrar sus bendiciones.

El rey "observo afuera" y descubrió un hombre pobre. La canción no es respecto el nacimiento de Cristo así como la vemos

respecto a hacer el trabajo de la Navidad. El Rey reúne los alimentos, el vino y la leña para el fuego para ser entregada por si

mismo al hombre pobre. Mientras en el camino, el sirviente quien está siguiendo a su Rey tiene problemas del corazón. El Rey

instruye a su sirviente que siga en las mismas huellas que el ha hecho en la nieve para que el camino frio sea más sencillo para

él. ¿Qué hermosa una imagen como esta para la Navidad? El Rey (Dios) advierte al pobre (nosotros) y busca hacer algo al

respecto ~ ¡EL MISMO! El sirviente (nosotros) quienes le ayudamos, se da cuenta de que el camino es muy difícil y el clima es

mucho para poder con eso. Cristo el Rey nos advierte que debemos seguir en sus mismas huella para que el camino sea más

fácil.
