Stewardship of Treasure “For it is in giving that we receive”
A Faithful Note from Deacon Ron
Wow, another year come and gone! Seems like just a few weeks ago we were ringing in 2017 and now we are saying goodbye to it. Liturgically, it is the feast of the Holy Family! A great way to combine these two things is to take time to reflect back on the year and look at the events that took place in the lives of our own families and look forward to plans for the coming year. For Amy and me, even though we lost some friends and family members, it has been a pretty great year! Some of the highlights would be welcoming 3 new grandchildren into the world, celebrating my fifth anniversary of ordination and celebrating our 36th anniversary! And 2018 looks to be pretty full and exciting as well! In February, we will travel to California and I will baptize my twin grandchildren, Lily and Coen! And in July, we will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the restoration of the Permanent Diaconate in New
Orleans with thousands of other Deacons and their families from around the country! For our Parish family, 2017 saw the dedication and opening of our new facilities, we said goodbye to some dear friends, welcomed many new ones, celebrated Fr Fred’s 75th birthday and continued to share the love of Christ with each other! And 2018 will be a full year for our Parish as well. We will celebrate many events this coming year, but to my mind, none will be more important than the 50th anniversary of our beloved Pastor, Mentor and friend, Fr Fred Nijem! Amy and I wish you all a most happy and Holy 2018! God Bless, Deacon Ron
Forward in Faith Prayer Heavenly Father, we thank you for all your blessings and for what you enable us to accomplish at Sacred Heart. By your
grace, may we move forward in faith, trusting that you will supply our every need in Christ Jesus, who lives and reigns
with you and the Holy Spirit. We pray through the intercession of Mary, our Mother. Amen.

BEARERS OF THE WORD The Church has placed a number of notable feast days immediately after Christmas. The feasts of Stephen, John the Evangelist, and the Holy Innocents form a summary of the life lived in Christ, the Word made flesh. What do these have to do with the feast of the Holy Family, which crowns the Octave of Christmas? These feasts remind us that suffering will occur in fulfilling the mission of Christ, and that we are all called to be bearers of this Word whose birth we celebrate. We also see this manifested in the lives of Joseph and Mary, both of whom took social and religious risks in obedience to the will of God, and both of whom were open to the word of God sent to them from on high. In these ways they prefigured the life of Jesus himself. Most likely, few of us found ourselves at Mass this past Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, but the essence of these feasts and the essence of the holiness of Joseph, Mary, and Jesus remain central, a holiness we celebrate today. I have two step-grandchildren, Bailey and Blake. I’ve been a member of Sacred Heart since 1981. I am currently president of the Golden Hearts. I’ve been involved with several other ministries, such as CCW, Life Teen, Adoration, Eucharistic Minister, Feast for Priests, Family Promise, and visiting the homebound of our parish. CHILI COOK-OFF JANUARY 13, 2018 The Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus is hosting a chili cook off and Dutch auction. All monies collected during this event will go to the SHS Scholarship fund. If you are submitting a chili for the competition please have it at the Social Hall by 4:00 for judging. There is a $25 prize for the winner in each of the three categories. The social event with meal and Dutch auction begins at 6:30. Applications to submit a chili are available at the Church and School offices and at the kiosk in the narthex. Meal tickets are also available in these locations. Meal
includes a bowl of chili, a hot dog, dessert and beverage. Cost is Adults $7.00 and children under 10 $3.00. The adult price includes 10 tickets for the Dutch auction.
Our version of the Dutch auction is as follows: the items being auctioned are on display with a “red solo cup” placed in front of each item. You “bid” by placing a ticket in the cup. The more tickets you put in the cup, the better chance you have to win. At the conclusion of the evening, one ticket is pulled from each cup. Holder of that ticket goes home with the item. We have a large variety of items for auction, including children’s items. Extra Dutch auction tickets will be on sale for $1.00 for 5 tickets.
Hope to see you there for what we hope will become an annual event!

Amy y yo les deseamos in feliz y bendecido 2018.
