IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE BISHOPS OF OHIOThe Catholic Bishops of Ohio have announced that they have extended the dispensation from the Sunday Obligation for the faithful (beyond the September 13th date) until further notice.

FROM THE DESK OF FATHER DOOLEY

Hello Friends,

This weekend, we celebrate Catechetical Sunday during our liturgies. This day has been designated as a way for the Church to honor our PSR catechists, grade school, and high school teachers. Each of us play an important role, by the virtue of our Baptism, in teaching the Faith and bearing witness to Jesus Christ. As the National Directory of Catechesis states, “the service of catechists to God and to the Church is truly irreplaceable” (66). After the homily, a special blessing will be given to our catechists and teachers in our community. Please join me in thanking these individuals in our parish and school.

Our Missionary Appeal is scheduled for next weekend. We are happy to welcome Sr. Amelia Mary of the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Heart. Their Motherhouse is located in Kerala, India. The founder of this Congregation is Servant of God Louis Savinien Dupuis MEP, a French missionary. The Sisters’ original ministry was to educate women in rural and poor parts of India. Today, their work has expanded to include hospital work, pastoral ministry, and evangelization. They number about 530 Sisters with convents in India, Germany, Italy, Jordan, and the United States.

I had the great privilege of working with Sr. Amelia at St. Peter’s in Chillicothe and St. Mary’s in Waverly from 2015-2017. Currently, the Congregation has three Sisters in Chillicothe and with a new Convent being established at St. Aloysius in the Hilltop neighborhood of Columbus.

Sister Amelia will speak about the works of the Franciscan Sisters of the Immaculate Heart at our Masses next weekend. Checks can be written to Our Lady of Peace with “MCP” in the memo. For those who do not plan to attend Mass in person, you can donate by mail or drop your contribution off at the Office. Thank you for the support of the missions.

We have made some staff changes here in the parish office. As many of you know, our new Business Manager is Angie Lee. She introduced herself in the bulletin a couple of weeks ago and has been doing a great job! Jennifer Pawley is now our Director of the Parish School of Religion. Her role is solely over our Parish School of Religion program.

Next, Julie Cottrill is our Director of Liturgy & Music. She will continue to oversee our sacred music along with liturgical planning, consultation, and helping to form our liturgical ministry programs. Peter Richards is our Director of Faith Formation. He will oversee our sacramental preparation for Baptism, First Confession, First Eucharist, and Confirmation. Finally, we welcome Katy Wyatt as Administrative Assistant. She will be in the office on Tuesdays to handle daily tasks and special projects for the parish.

Have a great week.

In Christ, Fr. Dooley

PARISH SCHOOL OF RELIGION (PSR)We are very excited to begin a new adventure in remote learning for our Parish School of Religion (PSR) students. We have 60+ children registered this year and 9 volunteer teachers ready and willing to devote their time and talent to guiding the children on their faith journey. We are grateful to our PSR parents who entrust their children to our care and who support our mission to educate their children in their Catholic faith.

We are blessed to have the resources to support our children’s learning. We ask the parish to pray for our young people and our teachers as they begin a new school year.

Blessings to all,Jennifer Pawley, PSR Director

THE AGORA: A CATHOLIC MARKETPLACE OF IDEASThe Agora: A Catholic Marketplace of Ideas, will take place on Sunday, September 20, 2020. Adoration will be from 6:00-6:40 p.m., followed by David Klemm’s presentation wherein he discusses the basic tenets of Islam, from 6:50-7:30 p.m. David will present Islam 101, an overview of the religion including its beginning, meaning, historical figures, and comparison to Christianity. A Question and Answer session will be held from 7:30-8:00 p.m. The presentation, and Question and Answer, will be held in the Church. Hope to see you there!

FROM THE ORGAN BENCHThis past week, our choir had its first Zoom meeting. It’s been a while since we have been together in any form…virtual or in person. During our meeting, one thing that came up and seemed to resonate with some of the members is, “Where is God in all of this? I’m finding it hard to pray during this time.” After the choir Zoom, I have been pondering that question and know that it is the sentiment of many of us during these uncertain and scary times. Two weeks ago, I had a call from a dear friend who is an Evangelical Christian. As we were talking and sharing our struggles with each other, she reminded me that God is in control, and she also reminded me of a favorite Bible verse, Romans 8:28, which says, “We know that all things work for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose.” As Catholics and Christians, we are a people of hope. It is hard sometimes to understand God’s plans…which are often not the same as ours. As I thought about the lament of the choir member, where is God, I have an answer. The answer may be too simplistic, but I see God every time I see a sunset or sunrise or beautiful flowers or feel the wind when I am outside. I hear God in the laughter of others or through the beauty of music. Is it hard to feel God on a tough day? It is, but I know that He is there…waiting for me to ask for His help. God doesn’t just love us when we are at our best. God loves us through our sin, our doubt, our disbelief. God wants us to surrender it all to Him. Matthew 11:28 says, “Come to me, all you who are burdened, and I will give you rest.”

WOMEN’S SCRIPTURE STUDYComing to OLP this fall – MARY, A Biblical Walk with the Blessed Mother.

Join us on Wednesday evenings, starting September 23rd, for a nine-week virtual faith sharing experience as we live the gospel through the eyes of Mary.

In this Bible Study, you will experience an extraordinary pilgrimage through Mary’s life and see why she is an essential part of our faith. Guided by Dr. Edward Sri, you will journey through the biblical narrative of Mary’s life and visit the places where key events in salvation history occurred. You will be introduced to the Blessed Mother on a personal level and see how Scripture, history, and Jewish culture reveal the sorrows, anxieties, and joys Mary would have felt in her heart. All women are welcome!

If interested in finding out more about the program and to get an invite to the Zoom meeting, contact Debbie Mahler or Teresa George.

OUR LADY OF PEACEOFFICE PROCEDURE

MEMO

Our Lady of Peace Parish Office

Subject: Parish Office – Operational Reopening Plans, Rules and Restrictions, Effective: June 1, 2020

Governor DeWine has begun the slow process of reopening some parts of the economy and society. He was very clear that this is not “an immediate return to normal” but is a slow opening with constant measuring of the effect, particularly the number of positive COVID-19 tests and the number of hospitalizations, to determine if we have proceeded more rapidly than we should have. We must also provide for the potential of a re-escalation of positive cases at some point.

Page 6: SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION PARISH ......2020/09/20  · catechists, grade school, and high school teachers. Each of us play an important role, by the virtue of our Baptism, in teaching

OUR LADY OF PEACE CHURCH COLUMBUS, OHIO

Effective June 1, 2020 Rules & Restrictions

1. All employees who can maintain reasonable productivity are to continue to work from home. Supervisors are to make informed decisions on approving employees to work in the office based on work needs, and what employee group they fall under.

2. Social distancing is to be followed at all times. 6 feet is to be maintained between individuals at all times. For open seating areas, this may require a rearrangement of work areas.

3. Visitors will be allowed in the building by appointment only.4. Enhanced cleaning will be performed Monday through Friday.

a. All commonly touched surfaces (doors, doorknobs, etc.) will be disinfected.b. All trash receptacles will be emptied.c. It would assist the cleaning service if a sticky note could be placed on the door of any office that has been

used that day. In this way, they will know if keyboards and phones must be cleaned. They will remove the sticky note once the office is cleaned.

d. Each employee is to sanitize their equipment before beginning work for the day and before they leave for the day.

e. Tables used for small group meetings are to be sanitized by employees before and after use.5. No children are to be brought into the building at any time. No pets are allowed in the building since it has been

shown that dogs and cats can carry the virus.6. Before coming into one of our buildings, all employees must complete a self-check to ensure they have none of

the following list of symptoms: Fever of 100.4 or higher; Cough; Headache; Sore Throat; Shortness of Breath; Fatigue; Loss of taste or smell; Unexplained body aches; or has had contact with anyone who has been diagnosed with COVID-19. Anyone exhibiting any of these symptoms should not report to work and should contact their supervisor.

7. Masks/face coverings are to be worn in all open areas, including hallways, elevators and open seating areas. Masks may be removed in private offices provided only one employee is present. If an employee has a health situation that would prohibit wearing a mask/face covering, the employee is to discuss this with Fr. Dooley. The conclusion may be that the employee may not enter the building and must continue to work from home.

8. All meetings with external parties are to occur through phone, conference call or videoconference if possible.9. Each employee will be provided with necessary supplies, including masks, gloves, sanitizer.10. Employees are to only use their own, assigned office equipment. This is particularly important with laptops, PCs,

keyboards, phones, pens, staplers, etc. For common printers and copiers, it is critical that each employee who uses a shared piece of equipment, sanitize the equipment and their hands immediately after using the equipment.

11. Employees are to sanitize their hands immediately upon entering the building. Hand sanitizer will be made available.

12. It is critical that employees continue the practice of consistent hand washing and sanitizing at any time where you may have touched any surface you do not have control over, especially in the restroom.

13. For any employee who has plans to travel outside the Diocese, they are to report this to their supervisor. A discussion will be held regarding the need for any quarantine before returning to work.

14. A common approach will be developed for the delivery of mail and packages. It will be critical that this includes as little interaction with the delivery individuals as possible. Gloves are to be worn when handling deliveries.

15. No meetings of employees are to be held with more than 10 employees in attendance in an area. The number is to be reduced to a lesser number in accordance with social distancing requirements. During employee meetings, all criteria for safe distancing and sanitation are to be observed. Please remember that at this time, no visitors are allowed in our buildings.

16. If work schedules include lunch time, all employees are to either eat at their desk or in their car. The cleaning service will empty wastebaskets each day to eliminate any issues. Employees are not to gather together for breaks or meals, even if social distancing can be observed, as this would necessitate not following our mask policy.

Plan for COVID-19 Exposure If we have a confirmed positive test for COVID-19 among our employees, the following protocol will be followed:

1. The building the employee works in will be closed.2. Contact tracing will occur to determine whether the employee was in one of our buildings, as well as who may

have come in contact with the employee.3. All employees of that building will be notified that a positive case has occurred.4. The building and all possible points of contact will be disinfected at an increased level.5. The building will be reopened once all the above has been completed.
