“ We use DDI through our Saba solution. When our employees or managers create development plans in Saba, there’s over 4,000 activities that come up and are supported through DDI! They are low-cost, real things that employees can do that are beyond just go take a course. There are things like, work on a stretch assignment, how to give feedback better, and there are some solutions on how to actually do that. Creating a development plan from scratch can be intimidating for a lot of people, so providing managers with the ability to click on their competencies and then getting a list of development activities come up is very helpful. Sometimes they are great right out of the box, but sometimes they can be customized with a few little tweaks that really help the employer to offer actionable activity that they can work on.
The other way that we have used DDI is for writing our performance reviews. Our managers are best at running our stores and managing employees but they may not necessarily be good writers! What we like about Saba and DDI is the ability for our managers to write better reviews, based on ratings and comments that their employees may have received from their peers. So, from an HR standpoint we like when the manager has supporting comments for how they are providing these ratings. They are able to pull up a quick and easy list and look at comments based on how they rated the employee and use that as a good starting point for their review process, and then customize and tweak it so that it feels unique for the employee.
