SAAS Study Hall Returns for a New Year
Study hall locations this year have grown, with new study hall rooms in the Flora Dugan Humanities Building, FDH (north of the
Student Union). All the rooms are on the second floor (205 and 202) and conveniently located in the academic center of campus. FDH locations are only open 10 AM – 2:00 PM and 6 PM – 9 PM
Monday through Thursdays. Lied Athletic Complex (LAC) study hall hours are 9AM – 1PM and 3PM – 5PM Mondays through
Thursdays, 8AM – noon on Fridays in room 240 on the second floor. Tutoring remains the same as last year, with tutors for virtually any subject available upon request (details on page 3 of this newsletter).
Two returning Graduate Assistants, Jamie Barnard and Susie
Hufford, are joined by new hires CJ Neser and Jennifer Wolfe. Neser is a first year graduate student majoring in Marriage and Family
Therapy. He was a student-athlete at BYU where he studied history, business management, and Spanish while also playing volleyball for the Cougars. Wolfe is a recent UNLV graduate and former student-
athlete that will bring her personal experience and dedication to the Student-Athlete Academic Services team. Wolfe is pursuing a
Master’s in Public Administration. As a returning graduate assistant, Hufford is in her second full semester at UNLV and is pursuing a Master’s in Higher Education. She graduated from Mount Holyoke
College in May 2013 with a B.A. in English and a minor in Gender Studies. Jamie Barnard, also in her second semester and a returning
GA, is pursuing a Master’s degree in Public Administration and aspires to work in the non-profit industry post-graduation. Graduate Assistants staff the study hall (two during morning and afternoon
shifts) and are available for objective based learning and personal tutoring.
To contact the study hall graduate assistants, monitors or advisors for
informal queries email [email protected]. For any questions regarding your required study hall hours or locations, please contact
your academic advisor.

An excerpt from Keys to Success in College and Life (2013)
by Will Keim and Curtis Zimmerman:
“A few years ago, I visited the University of Tennessee to speak to the student athletes. The women’s basketball team was seated in the front row. I asked them, ‘How come y’all sit right up front?’
One of the players, Semeka Randall, smiled and said, ‘Because Coach Pat Summitt tells us to sit in the front of the classroom, in
the front of the lecture, in the front of the movies, so we get used to being in front of things like the NCAA.’
That basketball team did win the NCAA national championship…Semeka Randall now plays professional basketball
in the WNBA and is an assistant coach at Michigan State University.
Sit in the front of the class.”
